  1. so what are the results? i assume you cut the coconut in half and drilled a hole through the shell to run a string through it so you could hang it right? if so did coco show any interest in eating the coconut meat?
  2. I remembered your post when i went to the store to buy baby food to make bird bread for Luna and safeway does carry coconut water. I bought a carton and added to the bird bread. Luna loves it. Edit: i forgot to add that i tried a sip of the cocount water and BLECH!!! so nasty!
  3. interesting. she is still a baby she is 13 weeks tomorrow i notice it when i come up to the cage to talk to her and rub her she gets really excited and wants out of the cage.
  4. ive noticed that the skin around Luna's eyes and nose will go from white to a pale shade of pink. is this normal, have you noticed this on your congo? im sure its normal its just her getting excited and the capillaries dilating because she is excited about something.
  5. i have the bird tricks dvd and i want to start training Luna as soon as i can, stepping up will be the first. she will be 13 weeks tomorrow and ive only had her for 3 days so we are still getting to know each other. Plus i have not found a treat she really likes yet. another good training videos are on youtube with Truman the senagal parrot. the best part they are free :-)
  6. wow dude that sucks. i wish i could do something to help you.
  7. she is 12.5 weeks old. do you mean your cag does not hold her food with her foot?
  8. a few minutes after i posted, i saw her holding a broccoli Florette munching away on it. :-)
  9. here is a video of her climbing around in her cage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVdPYt-tVLc&feature=youtu.be wow that was a LONG 12 weeks. we picked her up at Denver International Airport yesterday and oh man was she pissed. she was growling like a no other!! we took the paper off that was covering the door to the pet kennel when we got in the car. we talked to her and she calmed right down and started with her baby chirps and grunts. we took her to the vet and he said we did everything right on selecting a great breeder and luna is in in perfect health. The vet did suggest we remove the breeder band for safety reason so we agreed to do so. when we got home she explored every inch of her cage and yes she is CLUMSY!! she has not fallen off any of her perches but she does lose her balance. she is a cuddle bunny i have seen her drink water on several occasions so im happy about that, but i have not seen her eat yet. the breeder told us what food to get so she is on the same pellets. ill give it a bit more time before i get really worried.
  10. 15 weeks may be an issue with a breeder
  11. Hello Shanlung; I read your story about taking Tinkerbell out for a flight but she flew away. I dont see where or how you got her back.
  12. you still have a baby parrot. not talking at 8 months is no big deal. they will talk when they are ready to do so. just like human kids will walk, talk and mouth off when they are ready to, you can encourage it but you can not force it. just be patient it will happen on the birds schedule not yours. As far as bathing. since you say your bird is showing no interest and maybe getting stressed out while in the shower i would stop doing that. instead very gently pour water over its back while holding it over the sink. Some babies enjoy it very much and some do not care for it. There are a number of grooming sprays on the market you may wish to try too. Some animals take the hissing noise as a threat and some take it along with the spray, as a deterrent for bad behavior. You may wish to spritz your hand and stroke the bird with a wet hand if this is the case. It all depends on your individual bird and how you introduce these bath styles.
  13. how much does it cost to get a parrot microchipped?
  14. ive thought about the formula feeding after i get her and ive pretty much decided that if she shows behavior that she wants it, ill give it to her. Adult birds do feed their young even after they fledged so based on that i will do the same. I really do not see any harm and in my opinion it could prevent other issues. my uncle used to say after eating a big thanksgiving meal "yup, im all fat dumb and happy now" lol
  15. she is 435 grams and almost ready to fly, according to my breeder she is flapping her wings a lot
  16. update for 11 week pic. she is on her big girl perch She is just barely eating formula once a day and we will start tomorrow out without it. She is eating her veggies, pellet and cheerios really well.
  17. one question i have always had, is how can a bird that is kept inside all the time and never exposed to other birds bet mites.
  18. which is why i have no interest in a Quaker or Conure. their high pitch screams would put me in the funny farm.
  19. Lol Yea. i have a similar story. A friend of mine has a grey and tried for years to teach it "hello Human" well one day my friend stubbed his toe pretty bad on the coffee table and let out a very loud "G Damnit" well with the emotion and excitement he put into his curse word is all it took for his grey to pick it up and become his fav word for months. lol
  20. i tried that tactic a few times with my Orange Wing Zon and it didnt work. i have scars on my hand where he tore into me. one time he would not let go and i thought he was going to break my finger bone.
  21. 10 week pics uploaded a week late. i should be getting the 11 week pics in today and i will post them on time, this time :-) just 10 more days!
  22. this 100%, if the bird was flighted it very well could have made it worse.
  23. Luna is doing very well and is now on just two hand feedings a day. She is just about to go to one hand feeding. She is eating her solid foods all by herself and has just about lost all her baby down feathers. She is flapping her wings and is getting ready to fly soon
