Again, Talon, I want to "THANK YOU" and give you a big e-hug for picking up on this & soon making it reality... Also, what a good idea to begin by pulling the pieces together & having the info in one spot. Please keep us posted & just let me know what you need to help launch this room...

Gilbert and Phenix are both on that lonely, scary journey along with Roscoe. We know they need consistency, patience and confidence to take that next step. How frightening that must feel!! I've had the last two evenings alone with Roscoe. He actually usually settles to nod off around 10 on his cage door. As soon as the TV & lights go off; he immediately starts: "GO TO BED !!" I walk over, he rubs his head on the back of my hand & makes kissy sounds & swings thru the door & up to the corner for toe rubbing & more kissy noises. Being alone, he stayed on the floor with me until 11... I finally stood up & asked him to step up -- then carried him to his cage door. I softly whispered, It's time to go to bed & he picked up the routine & did his swing thru into the cage. Just the fact that he switched up & wanted to stay with me & cuddle, I accommodated him by letting him stay up. When we are alone he is much more relaxed & so is his schedule. I felt so fortunate that he chose to stay up later with me. Sounds like you had some extra cuddletime with Gil also, Dee. I'm not quite brave enough to stick my face & glasses near enough yet.... I'm just getting comfortablr with my hands.. BTW, I'm mixing up a batch of Simply Limeade tonight, in hopes that he will forgive me for having to share the evening w/ my hubby. LOL

So, so sweet !!! Emma's really got the shoulder action goin' to keep it swinging.
-
Dawl.. Sorry for you and your husband loosing little Isis. No matter what species, our pets are special.
-
You and Louie have made such great progress !!! It's wonderful to see him on your arm & shoulder instead of his boing !!! Besides flying to your shoulder, do you suppose him watching you w/ Sterling Gris & Ana Grey was the brain cell that clicked for him to want to come to you??

I love the fact that we're all working together to create a commonplace to express our ideas and share for the benefit of our rehomes. I do totally agree that it need not be grey specific and that the mix-nix threads could be sorted & grouped into this room. The idea of restarting a better life is the first thought that comes to mind. I feel confident that Talon will set up a room that we can continue to provide what's in the best interest for our complicated fids !!

You go Girl !!! Keep the ideas rolling in ...

Hey, MonkeyBird !!! NO ONE ever gets kicked for talking about our beasties !!! We've all had plenty of great experiences and after all --- forums are for chatting !!! (I'm soooo guilty) You'll soon realize Marco is watching AND listening more than you ever know. They take it all in & part of the fun is sharing love and food. Just wait till he is "helping" himself to everything on your plate!!
-
Welcome home to Gracie !!! She sounds like she enjoys being there already and what a treat that she will have you with her for the holidays !!
-
Welcome, MonkeyBird & Marco.... Congrats on joining this forum & bringing your new CAG into your family!! I, too, know all too well about the jowls of water & slobber of a Dane and a Newfoundland. I used to wipe it off the ceiling regularly too !!! What I was getting to is how cute the jesture of "Pleeeaaasseee pet me" is. The puppies & kitties (well there's nothing like a Dane walking up to your face on the couch, dripping & drooling, for attention!! Or sitting, LEANING on your body, and flipping your arm up in the air!!) love to nuzzle and push their nose/beak towards you for a good scratch and Marco has already demanded his share. Smart Bird !!

Girls... It's as though we have a new subject in Grey Forums !!! "REHOMED GREYS" I'm so happy to share and brainstorm our experiences and ultimately learn from each other

Throughout my life I have truely believed I am blessed with common sense and an open heart. Trial & error and consistency are right there in the mix as well. Roscoe is truely teaching me as I get further into our journey together. As complex as this is, at times, he still is a bit neurotic... When he fires his bullet, it's ALWAYS displacement bites centered from my husband's actions. I can't remove my spouse so I tolerate it. Charlie's pretty good at telling me when he is going to leave or return to the room. When he goes to bed early or naps during the day, Roscoe and I are both happy together with no problems. These special times are when we bond. I strive for our quality time knowing that he deserves it. The evening hours w/ the three of us Roscoe still comes to me for cuddles. He is a very brave little boy to want to be with his mommy, despite the big bad man. I do realize Roscoe doesn't like him and still I suffer for it. All in all, I just let him know, "It's OK" and he rubs his head on me & makes kissy sounds to say he's sorry. I comfort him & he understands. My approach is done from the heart and together WE are discovering each other.

Dee!!! I'm so very happy that you & Gilbert had special moments. It is the greatest feeling in the world to receive "warm fuzzies" from them. My recent breakthroughs came when Roscoe sensed I had let my guard down. I believe Gil also sensed that and made his new advances because he felt more relaxed. Our rehomed fids are finally beginning to trust us !!

Can't help myself, i just have to post it!!!!

Louie looks magnificent !!!! You should be so proud of such a beautiful boy.. The best part of it all is HE is finally approaching you !!! -
You are so sweet, Karen !!! It makes me happy just to know you enjoyed my video !!! All our babies deserve the love and attention we give them because it is unconditional... Life's most beautiful gift So nice of you to admire Gabby. She is just as sweet as she is beautiful.

Thank you so very much again, Shanlung... I immediately went to your source for "gentle" with Tink. I will begin tonight during our cuddle time... I usually very softly whisper AWWW when I'm petting him so it will be extremely easy to add gentle, aww, gentle to my crooning. After he connects gentle with my massaging, I will be able to say gentle when he grabs too hard or bites. Come to think of it, I used to say "gentle" when my children pet a dog, cat etc. It's funny how sometimes something so simply obvious is difficult to figure out...

Thank you Nancy. I still love and miss Bozo like it was yesterday. I carry a corner of my heart broken only for him. I feel fortunate to have been his "mommy" and been a part of his life.

Yes, I'm elated with my new found trust & respect !! This is new to both of us and we BOTH are enjoying it. I have all the time in the world to wait for him and, yes, he is just a youngster. He brings with him so much baggage I really never imagined I would ever get to the point we're at. I have a cuddly, lovey tiel and just figured I could provide a safe and happy home to this Grey. I conceded from the beginning that he would ever be able to show affection, maybe just not be scared to be handled. He is a bit curious from time to time of my hubby. He walks out to the center of the room and just stares up at him. He also enjoys it when Charlie is reading the Sunday paper, to go over and shred the sections he puts on the floor for him. Thanks for the idea of a board game!! It sounds like an excellent way to get him to interact with my husband.
-
By all means, Greys are exceedingly intelligent enough to detect your emotions !!! After all, don't we watch body language to give us a clue ?? Just the past few weeks I have been totally amazed at how Roscoe is interacting so well; & I, myself, realized that after he let me pet his head I had dropped all my guard, and he sensed that before I did. After the elation of the first few encounters, I took the initiative to advance to his neck and beak. Petting, massaging and his showing me how much enjoyment he feels has been our new daily occurances. However, as Shanlung stated, I also get a bloody bite on my arm or hand from him when he reacts from something my spouse does. The squeek of the recliner when my hubby repositions himself or coughs is enough to elicite my pain from his knee-jerk reaction. Roscoe immmediately follows up by rubbing the top of his head on my hand and making kiss sounds to say he's sorry. However, when we're cuddling he also "mouths" and holds my fingers while sometimes half-way starts to bite down. All I have to say is "HEY" or "stop" and sometimes he bites harder & sometimes he lets go. It's just a grey thing to say they are in control and he could hurt me if he wanted to. It's all about the journey of building mutual respect and trust
-
I'm sure you enjoy your three and love them all. At some point, I would definately consider a third... Possibly a baby TAG if the occasion arose. I do, however; feel that Roscoe deserves my undivided attention for a while longer until he becomes more settled and sure of himself. He still has a lot of baggage that needs to be undone. Again, thanks for watching the vid and sharing your insight. They are all wonderfully intelligent "beasties"....
-
Thanks Karen for giving the thread link on your tent game. I'm sure Marcus & Roscoe are able to relax a bit & interact because of our tent. And, yes, because of that.. These past few weeks I've made strides with Roscoe I couldn't of even begun to imagine. The neck scritches started and then came the beak thing. He has finally begun to know the meaning of trust and is finding his own way of saying he loves me. Without our tent, Karen, I'm sure it would have taken years or even at all for him to respond...
-
Chezron: before I answer your question -- Thank you so much for watching my vid!!! If you click on his picture in my profile album it will give you a brief explanation. Sadly, no .... He passed two months after I rescued "Roscoe". It was as though I embarked into the world of Greys & it allowed me to bear the loss of Bozo. Bozo came to me w/ a broken leg and I "willed" that an underdog be a king. I treasure each moment I had with him and my "Gabby", who remains my gentle little soul, I'm sure misses Bozo too. I answer you with tears and a heavy heart but grateful that Roscoe & Gabby fill my time and bring me to realize how much I love my fids.

Grimm is getting so big... Look how loooooong those pretty red tail feathers are getting !!!! What a precious little soul...

We're waiting !!!!

Yes, Dee !!! Just like Gilbert, Roscoe takes about an hour of warm-up: he will walk around on the floor, go back & sit on his cage door, come down & play find a peanut in his "tent" and then settle in up next to me on the floor. He gets really close & soaks up some body heat and starts rubbing his head on my chest that he wants to cuddle. The head goes down, the cute little red butt goes up & he's so sweet. He will tense up alittle from time to time but finally gets into his massage enough to close is eyes. Last night he let me rub the space under his neck at the base of his lower beak!! Thanks for the clue..... that definately is a spot he responds to, just like Gilbert. Yes, this is a fun thread!!! It is amazing how many things our greys do and at this point I am so honored to be able to be a part of this !!!!
