Corky still has her band, but Cricket and my cockatiels are unbanded. We are looking into chips for all our pets and birds. I don`t know how I could take the loss of Corky, Cricket or my tiels or any of my other pets. I beleve the chip is the way to go. Other options are ear tags and ear tattoos for dogs and cats and other animals.

Every thing I have read supports what Dave said and in the 40 years I have had cockatiels and the eleven years with larger birds they have never had fleas or mites. We have dogs and cats and we live in the country on a small farm so from time to time we deal with fleas with the dogs, cats and the goats

It`s the young greys that are clumsy or said to be clumsy and as they get older they grow out of that stage. I have read that a bad clip can make a grey seam to be more clumsy because they use their wings for balance as they climb around their cage when they are young and older. Their wings are used for more than just flying. Wing clipping is a very emotional subject on this and other forums.

Most of the membership on this forum have amazons as companion birds and not breeders. I can`t help you, but if a member here has info. they will chime in.

My grey loves to shred paper into long strips. I think she likes the sound it makes because she will run with the paper in her beak untill the paper runs out.

It sounds like Roscoe is doing just fine and you are doing fine also. My grey never said her first untill she was two years old and now she talks nonstop. As far as new people, let them talk to him and offer him a treat so he knows not to fear them and he should come around. Welcome to the forums

Ok for all you members that have amazons and african greys. Witch one gets into more trouble, your zon or your grey ?? For me it`s my grey Corky, she can get into more trouble in one day than my zon does in a year. If it`s not the woodwork it`s the log walls in our cabin and the poor dogs hide when she is out. She is fearless. Our zon will just walk around and check things out and than she will go back to her cage and watch as we tell Corky no !! stop!! your going back in your cage !! Don`t do that Corky !! Corky !!!

I think one of the biggest mistakes we humans make is to compare bird species and not enjoy each species as their own. I have had keets, tiels, doves, love birds an african grey and a amazon and each is special in their own way, and they are all smart. They each have their own rung on the ladder and I have to say that the grey is on the top rung. The rest are not far behind. Except for the doves they all talked. Not every bird talked, but at least one of each specie did talk. I had one keet that talked up a storm and gess who taught it to talk. The cockatiel in the next cage. they both said all the same things
