What time does your rooster....errr...parrot wake up?
JDS5607 replied to Mama CJ's topic in The GREY Lounge
Right before Sunrise... when the sky is still pink and purple. Which, since we face the east- is about 5:15... They all wake up right about that point! And sully starts with talking and making every sound he can- and oddly enough calls the cats too- but we actually have cats! Lol -
Ooooh sugar free?!! That's a good thing- for both me and sully lol

Hoping Archie finds a wonderful new home that treats him as well as you have! Good luck to you and Archie!

I thought so Usually it happens when he is eating something new, or if he sees something sneaking up on him (other birds or the fat cat) Pretty neat reaction! @Birdnut- I can imagine that being creepy! lol Still pretty cool :)

I have a question about Sully's eyes... I notice sometimes that the pupils in his eyes get larger and smaller rather quickly, over and over again. I think I've seen it referred to as "pinning". What causes this? It is a little creepy

Absolutely adorable story I love how they are so sweet at night time Anyway, Might I suggest a cuddle hut? Sully didn't take well to it because he wanted to sleep on a towel on the bottom of his cage, but Maybe your grey might? It will also give her some more stability (you can put a perch right through it) so she may not fall off. We've wanted to get Sully a sleep cage, but have no room for it. We're moving next year to a home... think at almost two years old he will adapt to having a play cage and a sleep cage? Also- when your sleep cage comes in, can you post a picture? I'd like to see how big to get one for Sully

Sully has been eyeing my freezie pops (you know, the popsicles in the plastic tube) for MONTHS. I eat them like CRAZY during the summer months! Anyway, Sully grabbed one right out of my hand the other day and chomped down on it. He really liked it (which is odd, because he usually doesn't like cold). Anyway, a whole freezie pop has 5g of sugar, and it got me wondering how much sugar is too much sugar for a grey? Now I know they should have very little sugar... but does anyone know exactly how much sugar would be okay?

Awesome!!! I LOVE the bottom! Fun!
-
That looks like fun! Anyone wish they were a grey? I do! LOL- Really, these toys are so much fun-looking!
-
Almonds! Or, if the holes are tubular, noodles! Just be careful not to squeeze anything into the holes-- Your grey will want whatever is in there, the toy will be destroyed! lol

Birds will bathe when they want to. My lovebird Romeo bathes twice a day- atleast (in his water dish), but my other lovebird only bathes once or twice a week. If I know I'll be out of the house all day, I'll put a shallow pie dish or casserole dish on the bottom of Sully's cage and he'll bathe in it if he wants to... if not, he makes soup

Grey's are extra dandery... I think they are second only to Cockatoos. Anyway, I try to give Sully a bath every other day, too. Any longer than that and he gets itchy and sneezy.. It also helps to keep down on the dander all over the house as well, so it's beneficial for both people and bird

Thanks everyone! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your orders!! Talon- I'll be sending your noodle balls out as soon as my noodles come in! I've had so many orders! LuvParrots- I'm sure Louie will LOVE those nuts and bolts. Sully has 6 or 7 of them in his cage- and he perches up on them and unscrews them... crash!
-
Chris and Matt- Thanks for your order I know Maggie will LOOOOOVE all the toys you ordered! I bet she'll adore that noodle ball! Have fun!

Darn! Looks like I'm taking It down to my Father in laws shop to have it welded! sigh...

Evening One of Sully's verticle bars popped at the weld. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? He's found it, and has already began to pluck it... oh boy.

Greys and Babies/Small children - Does it work? HELP!
JDS5607 replied to Popsicle's topic in The GREY Lounge
I think as long as your children know that they are not to touch the grey without mommy or daddy being around, everything will be fine! Just set boundries early on! Good luck! -
Fantastic!

Oh yes, he is a climber!!! I can't keep him off anything! LOL, love it though!

He used to have a nightlight, but he's been sleeping without it for about 5 months now. He wasn't sleeping at night (often waking up to play at 2 am.), so we took it out. He's been fine without it... I think? Usually, we have him covered but the cover was being washed last night, so that could have been it. I am wondering if my husbands position scared him- he had a blanket in his arm, so Sully could have been startled by the unfamiliar object. Thanks for the input, everyone!

I always buy "Medium" things... On a related topic- I didn't know how much AG's could differ in size! I saw an african grey congo the other day that I SWORE was bigger than a B&G Macaw (minus the tail)... crazy!

Last night, my husband and I were "shutting down" the living room (turning off all the lights, TV, saying goodnight to all the birds, covering them, etc.) When we turned off the last light, Sully started this loud, almost growl... My husband was standing about two feet from Sully's cage at the time, and Sully started screaming (like a person!) We turned the light above his cage on and he came to the door and I let him out. His heartbeat wasn't fast, but he wanted to stay on top of his cage, and when my husband reached for him, Sully lunged at him. He's NEVER done that before... and when I told my husband he was freaked out and just to let me get him, he said "I'll get him" and sully bit my husband.. Ever so lightly, but still, it was different than his normal "beaking". Yet, he came right to me and had no problem whatsoever... Wondering if anyone knows what's up? And how can I prevent this in the future?

oh! thanks for telling me! Try now!! LOL

I'm a proud momma today! Sully and I have been working on "can you dance?" for weeks. I've been trying to train him with any kind of goodie, but I couldn't find anything that he liked so much he would do a trick for... Well, I found it! I know it's not healthy, but he LOVES fruit loops. So, I give him a teeny bit ( I probably get 5 or 6 "can you dance?"'s out of one fruit loop.) and he dances every time! I don't give him a treat everytime, but I always praise him... He puffs his feathers out, and bobs his head up and down a few times So good Anyway, does this kind of open the gate for more tricks? Now that he understands that he does something good and gets a treat? I hope so, because three weeks on "can you dance" nearly drove me nuts!
