  1. Wanted to include this one too
  2. Isn't it fun looking! Our lovebird goes through the loops, Sully hangs off them and our nanday pushes them back and forth! It's clangy too Love those noisemakers... right? lol
  3. You can try a feather duster ( One made with real, natural feathers) or provide her with foraging toys, or toys she can pull apart. A lot of times it is boredom, unless maybe something has changed and she is stressed. Have you: Replaced her cage? Gotten new toys? Moved someone new in? Changed your routine or schedule? Changed her food? If none of these things are happening, I would say shes bored. Take her to the vet and have her checked up on, and try the feather duster or lots of foraging toys! Keep us posted! Good luck!
  4. Haha, I bet he wanted to play with those bugs!! Sully chases flys that get in the house, but doesn't catch them often. lol Congrats on harness training! We're still trying to get him in one without him Screaming and going "WAAAAAAAAAAKAAAAAAAAA!"
  5. I never really noticed outside birds, until our first fid, Romeo ( our tiny lovebird with a missing toe) flew into our hearts... then along came Chicken, Joe, Zoe, and Sully. It seems now that I catch myself watching the Seagulls in the parking lots searching for frenchfries, Robins in the yard stomping for worms, and the little red cardinal that sits on the fence speaking to Sully in the morning... I never noticed how they ate, bathed in the dirt (or water puddle) or flew, and now I find it mesmorizing. It's amazing how our fids have changed the way we see things, including when I see a fun kid toy, I immediately starting thinking of what ways Sully would play with it (instead of thinking of how my 9 nieces and nephews would play with it, lol) Just my thought for the morning Happy Sunday, Everyone!
  6. OH I get the same way whenever I see an injured bird... Hoping the little guys is ok!
  7. LOVE these pictures!! I also love Dayo's Polka Dot pants! Sully has a few polka dots too, but not as big as Dayo's! How did he like the new outdoor sights and sounds?
  8. @ Chezron, Sully loves to slide down the stair banister! lol he starts at the top and slides all the way down going wooooooooooh! Real quietly lol
  9. Thanks I think he may be a little longer, but he was INTENT on catching the tape measure, so We kinda got his length from neck to tail, lol. He eats allllll the time, So I'm not too worried about it. She said she'd like to see another 10 grams on him, but He's active & growing still!
  10. OH! And he measures 9.5" from head to tail
  11. Just to let everyone know... Sully's doing well still. He's sleeping now, after his yogurt-filled morning. His vet visit went alright. She couldn't really tell us much, because we weren't sure how much he had ingested, and he has been acting fine. She said to give him another teaspoon of yogurt tonight, but to cool it on the Gatorade because of the sugar, and if anything changes to bring him back. She did say, however (just in case anyone's fid swollows anything similar) that the yogurt is best to give to your fid if you can't get to the vet immediately. Even though Dairy isn't good on the tummy, it will keep the comet from burning ulcers into the crop, esophogus or stomach We got good news on him, though. She said he seems like a happy bird, with great personality & beautiful feathers (but we already knew that! ) She said he's a little underweight (at 288g) but he's also a little smaller all over so...eh, he's a little guy
  12. UGH. So, I hate to admit it, but I was a forgetful Parront this morning. I let Sully out of his cage as usual, and remembered I had things to do, so I put him back in his cage about an hour later, but didn't realize I left his food door open. I went about my morning ritual of cleaning and had run outside to take the trash out... I came back in and ran into the kitchen when I heard something fall in the bathroom... I thought it was one of the cats, so I finished up chopping Sully's veggies and went up to check it out. Sully had gotten out of his cage, walked to the bathroom, and knocked over the COMET bathroom cleaner. LUCKILY, it was nearly empty, but he still bit a hole into the top of it... and a itty bit got on the floor. He wasn't anywhere near it when I got there, but I put two and two together when I picked him up and he had blue powder on his beak. I very much doubted he got ANY, but I freaked... PANIC!!! I called the vets ( both are FREAKING CLOSED ON SATURDAYS!!) And Called the emergency vet, who refferred me to the Poison control number. Anyway, I finally got ahold of a vet who would answer my question, and he advised me to give him gatorade, and yogurt (to neutralize any acids). It's been about an hour and a half now, and Sully's fine so far. I will be taking him to the vet at 2, when my husband gets home with our car, but I'm worried! :'( I feel like such a bad mom I didn't even want to share it, but I know you all are very supportive, and I just wanted to serve a reminder, CHECK every door on your fids' cages , and keep anything poisonous off the floor, even if you're just going to be gone a minute :'( I'll update everyone soon. I'm fighting Sully off the keys on the laptop, while at the same time getting yogurt everywhere. He thinks this is fun time! He gets mom all to himself, PLUS YOGURT!?!?
  13. Well, I don't think Gordon is going to be for us. The lady seems to have found another home for Gordon Ah well, guess he's just not for us... We're still looking!
  14. @ Morana- She's going through a divorce, and as a result, has to have two jobs to support her and her children, which leaves less time for Gordon. Luckily (for Gordon), she hasn't started that second job quite yet, but is starting in a few weeks, so she has some time to find him a really great home. He is shy, but non-aggressive. He seems like a really great bird. As most of you know, we have three cats, and she has them as well as a dog, and Gordon couldn't care less about them, which is good Gordon is a DYH... and a beautiful one. He has no plucked feathers, and is vey clean and well groomed. I think she mentioned his nails and beak may need a trimming, but I can't remember. Anyway, thank you all for your great advice. I understand they don't need to get along, but most tolerate each other. Sully is out for most of the day, and Gordon is used to being out mostly in the afternoon and evenings. Sully is getting really good at flying since his flights grew back in, and Gordon looks fully flighted, so the worst COULD happen if they were both out at the same time. Now, to convince my husband that Gordon is 'the one'. We're all hoping to get together over the next few days, soooo, we'll see!
  15. Thanks, Dave Sully's comfort (as well as my other fids, but they don't seem to mind anyone but themselves) is number one to us. I wouldn't want to make him scared or nervous ( I understand initial jealousy is almost unavoidable)... Sigh, I'm hoping to take him tomorrow, and introduce them. This nice lady says that she wants the transition to be smooth, and is willing to meet with me (and Sully) as many times as we feel necessary , So maybe we'll start the process and see what happens. Maybe they'll become best friends! ha, one can dream.
  16. WOW! Very nice! He seems right at home already!!! I would definately go with getting the vet to do the trimming and such. It's much less stressful (mostly because the vet is probably quick!) and less painful for you The cage you got is beautiful and fits him perfectly!
  17. Two greys is a lot! Especially as babies Also, birds kept in the same cage tend to bond together, making a relationship difficult with humans. If you're a newbie to bird ownership, I would suggest just adopting the one. But, if you've got lots of experience, and perhaps work a lot (to where you couldn't give lots of attention to a single grey) two may be a good route to go.
  18. I came across an ad looking to rehome a 15 yr old Amazon. Long story short, I have fallen for this guy named "Gordon"... I know, how cute. Anyhow, I am really considering adopting him, as he seems very open to new people, and has a great history with one owner. Anyway, a few months ago, I was thinking of adding another Grey to the family, but decided against it because I wasn't sure how Sully would take to it. I was asked by the lady who is adopting out Gordon if I wanted to bring Sully over tomorrow to see how they reacted. Is this a good idea? I know about diseases and all, but they wouldn't be making contact. Sully would stay in his carrier (which he feels comfortable in, even wanting to go for car rides in it, rather than without it). Any ideas?
  19. Sully did that for a few months after I got him. Are you handfeeding him at all? (sorry I can't remember how hold he is). The beak rubbing can often be him just cleaning his beak off after he eats Pulling your finger towards him usually means they want to be pet, or picked up, and the head motion, is usually him trying to "share" his food with you (or, sometimes Sully will do this if he's eaten too fast and something didn't go down quite right. It's kinda gross, but harmless ) The cries are just him talking to you... unless he's being handfed (or freshly weaned) which could mean he's wanting some formula Is your grey doing this? :sigh: I miss those honks It's just a baby thing
  20. Bran- Sully loves to do the same thing. He's content with those cat toys, as well as his noodle ball. He tries to pull the little bell out, and will spend hours trying to do so Luv- I've heard that too. We've been going through phases where he only wants his wood toys, but a few weeks later he's all about destroying plastic! Including my water bottles ElvenKing- I haven't tried the little wooden beads.... I'll have to get some! KimKim- Foraging is always a win! I've had this same toy sitting in his cage for a few weeks he wont touch, but I put a peanut in it, and BOOM! FAVORITE TOY!
  21. ElvenKing, I think you're right. When I brought Sully home, everyone was floored when I told them the costs of him, his vet visits, cage, etc... and they all viewed him as 'just a bird'... He really is a family member and I couldn't imagine treating him as 'just a bird'. Barbara, Agreed!! Better to be safe than sorry!! Sorry about Neo, dear... thank you again for sharing his story

  23. I've been making a LOT of plastic toys... and Sully really enjoys them, more so than the chewy wooden toys. What about y'all? I know most parrots love to chew, but Sully- not so much...
