Oh no I've been having trouble with my site. All fixed now though! Thanks, dear

Woop- just went back and read about her maternal grandmother... hmm. I thought only males could be colorblind. AH! Learn something new every day!
-
Thanks everyone! This lady seemed a little odd, but... I thought it would be worth asking Oh- and Barbara, The female gender cannot be colorblind, only males can So, luckily, your grand daughter is probably just like most three year olds, having a little trouble connecting labels to colors. My niece would do that with numbers. She knew the numbers, but would say a 1 was a four, or something similar She got it though! Lol Best of luck to your Granddaughter! <3

I had a lady tell me at the petstore that she doesn't buy toys with colors on them because her grey is color blind. I laughed at the thought, but it got me wondering... some people are colorblind, so can some grey's be colorblind?

We have a similar problem. Sully doesn't like when I wear nail Polish. He won't come to me or anything... BUT- he is getting used to it, and atleast allowing me to give him scratches when I have nail polish on Maybe just giving him some time to get used to those patterns and colors.

Lol, I know I started using the eraser end of a pencil to re-stuff it. However, I'm no match for Sully, lol. -
We're moving! Exciting for us, stressful for the babies... I know how to get birds used to a new environment and people when it comes to an established home, but things will be hectic at both places for the next week or so. Any advice on ways to keep our fids (Sully, especially) calm and de-stressed? The new place we're moving to has a dog living upstairs (which he's never heard or seen one)... Any ideas on how to keep him relaxed in a hectic environement?

http://www.jbsbirdtoys.com/Crazy_p_75.html I had lots of fun making this- although shoving paper in all those little holes was a pain

@ Aslterp59- I sell them on my website. They're Nickel Plated and have no lead or unsafe metals @fote03- I keep trying, but he seems to know what the camera is, and is much more interested in stopping- and dancing..

The only time I have a "what was I thinking" moment with our birds is when money is super tight, and we're down to the bottom of the budget and we have to decide if we buy fresh fruits and veggies for them or something else us humans need. That's really the only time I think, "What have I gotten myself into!?" BUT- the fresh veggies always win out... We have had to rehome our Sun Conure with my father, and are currently rehoming our nanday conure temporarily until we move out of our apartment- but that's because they are screamers. Our grey is usually pretty quiet (except when he's practicing his "nails against chalkboard" screech.

PVC is quickly becoming my new favorite plastic for bird toys! It's tough enough for greys and most macaws

Let her tell you what she wants. If she will step up onto your hand after she flies around and lands on the floor, then hold her on your hand awhile. You can tell when they want to get down because they will start to lean towards the floor, or towards something besides your hand.... You're doing everything just as I would, but I would take the toys and put them in the same room for awhile. Then perhaps put them on the floor, next to her cage. Then in a day or two, move one at a time into her cage. As far as the foods go- keep offering the stuff she doesn't eat. Sometimes it will take 20 times bfore they will even try it :\ Grey's are so intelligent, she is trying to learn you, and learn your habits...as well as trying to figure out if you're a good person or a scary one You're doing wonderfully Just give her time.

With shipping it cost us just under $950 for our Timneh... but then you factor in cages, toys, things you think they will play with but dont.... ohhhh... a lot! lol

Thank you I actually stuffed some whole wheat pasta in some of the holes after he pulled all the crinkles out... he went crazy! haha
-
Sounds great I'm sure he will love them!

Introduction of me and my future TAG :P
JDS5607 replied to DinoUndies's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Welcome to the forum! I know you'll find lots of information here! Can't wait to see pictures of your new grey! -
My birds (the two lovies and Sully) are the same way. After about an hour, maybe an hour and a half, things begin to calm down and they usually go back to their cages for a nap.. then around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, it starts up again. So, I can work at home from 7-2... after that, there isn't a chance

I would say it's a positive thing that your Amazon is feeling brave enough to check out your grey's cage Ooooooor, he just got curious enough to finally do it! lol
-
We have a sheet that we use too- but Sully's cage is 54"L, and our sheets barely cover half way down... We also only have one- and it's white, lol so not much help! I ordered some black fabric, but I also got some nice decorator fabric to do the top, and I'm doing the bottom in black. Hopefully it comes out good

Those are great! I was going to do one for a dome-top, the top will be fitted, and have the sides flowing ( like this one) http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=8568&cmpid=04csegb&ref=3312&subref=AA&CAWELAID=525357572 But now, I'm not sure if I should do the flowing sides or the straight sides like you did. : \

I have to agree with birdnut. I would wait until the end of summer to get your grey. It would be best for him, in my opinion. Socialization is very important, but so is stabilization. It would be fine to take the bird back and forth once they are older and used to you, and used to the routine, but as for a new grey- I would absolutely wait. You don't want to stress your new baby.
