  1. We are so fortunate to have each other to share with in order to help these damaged souls and perhaps prevent emotional damage to others. we live with four rehomed or rescued Greys and two Too's who came from other places, each has his or her own baggage some are easy and some will always have the scars to show. Each day is a blessing for me to share my life with their feathered (partial or entire)boisterous or quiet selves, they have enriched our lives.
  2. Time for us all to review our emergency plans, evacuation routes, food stocks, water source, any medications & fist aid kit, important paperwork, shelter for any Weather, Earthquake, Fire or other emergency situations that could occur in your area. Better to prepare for what might happen than to be unprepared and helpless. Would be good to contact friends or relatives in another area and exchange plans to be each other safe stop to meet family or have a place to evacuate to.
  3. It just made a sudden turn to the North Cleburne getting the storm now. Good limk some folks have posted scanner links to P.D. & Fire as well a up to date as it happens weather info.

  5. Yes it is normal and glad you asked the Vet for advice when you found yourself uncertain. You did good.
  6. If you swat one species it is difficult to not swat others, it becomes a muscle response-kind of on auto pilot. I know he will forgive you but you may have to find other means to let your other critters know when they need to stop what ever they are doing other than a swat. Having worked with dogs for many years I can tell you a swat can earn you a self defense bite on occasion. It is a natural reaction for one to defend ones self from an incoming blow. Hope all continues to go well for the understanding between you all.
  7. Another learning process, it is a shame they are painful. Nothing like a bird who chews through the branch they are standing on then blaming you for the fall. There will be humor in this story when the wounds heal and he will forgive you both eventually.
  8. How wonderful Gilbert is living forward now instead of being stuck in his shell of fear, you and he have become a team to lead others out of darkness. Perhaps a book to share your learning to work at his comfort level and his learning to trust could help many birds and people. Gilbert is blessed and you are his angel even if as Willy says "flying too close to the ground" on occasion. Hey we are all human (mostly) and learning from little set backs and mistakes makes us al lthe better, I should know.
  9. He is doing very well so just keep practicing your patience, difficult but so rewarding.
  10. Like kids sometimes distraction works as well, offer of a bath, a treat or story time can sometimes work. I like the cushion on the lamp shades just remover before using, fires are not fun. Some birds are unsure of stuffed animal toys that can work as an avoidance tool as well.
  11. Welcome and nice to see your Harry bird. Can you tell us the story that led to his being a part of your life?
  12. Me Too. Baby birds can be so much fun to watch.
  13. I think your first location was the better choice, too much tempting wall there to chew on.
  14. I love to see them getting real Sunshine, it makes those feathers glow. Great set up you have built for them.
  15. What a sweet boy, glad he feels safe again.
  16. Maybe Destiny should be her name, it looks like love with those heart wings. It is so wonderful when the bird gets the chance to decide who to live with-congrats. Though now I will forever wonder about the little Goffins, if I was closer I would go rescue her and get her as I have a soft spot for self mutilating Too's.
  17. A very good friend of birds is very ill in hospital as well, she is having a very tough time and the Dr.'s are not even in agreement as to how best to proceed. So happy to hear your cousin is on the mend and hoping that journey continues down the right path.
  18. Set up a photobucket account it is free and use that to post from.
  19. No shoulders here either, eyes are too valuable to risk. Our flock all either use our arms, hands or in the case of Smartee Pants (TAG)the top of any available head. Love the humor Trance and also glad you stayed around.
  20. Impressive beginning I look forward to hearing about the progression of your adventure into the Grey universe.
  21. Drunk dialing over birdy bread, that is a new one. lol I needed that humor today.
  22. He will always live in your heart.
  23. Good information Thank you for sharing.
