  1. What ever they successfully train us to answer to, we respond. To Pookie I am Mommy, to Whisper I am the sound of pouring coffee, Joe calls me Jillbird and the humor makes my day.
  2. Gabby knows that love has healing properties, smart girl. Our little TAG Smartee Pants has a deformed leg that never slows him down. He is the smallest of our Greys but definitely the most aggressive, Whisper is twice his size but he thinks nothing of going after her to chase her off.
  3. Mine love those bottle caps too, I sometimes give them a little coconut water or carrot juice in the cap.
  4. They listened to Sophie they had to be good people.
  5. A bird who knows what he wants. Handsome little guy, look forward to learning more about him as he shows his personality. Welcome among us!
  6. Make sure you don't say that out loud or you will be hearing it for years.
  7. We are each others shoulder for strength, to cry on and to listen when we need an ear or another viewpoint. We all share the love our little Grey souls share with us and the respect and caring we share with each other. I would trust Jay and Maggie, Dan, Dave, and Ray just for starters with my flock you have all shown yourselves to be caring, considerate and have great trusting relationships with your flocks. Thsi forum is our bird safe place. Thank you all for being here.
  8. Hand feeding sounds simple but really is not, you can read many threads where baby bird have gotten into difficulty or died so do diligent research and have those eyes wide open. We are all waiting to hear how the decision went.
  9. Huge compliment Maggie I appreciate that. We should all just want what is best for them all and hopefully we will fit into their lives as well as we can with some respect and consideration for their feelings.
  10. I think you have to put something in writing to cover an unforseen illness or accident that may end your life or debilitate you to the extent you and family can not care for your flock. Perhaps a Sanctuary, a good friend that your bird is comfortable with or a forum member you respect. Do ask questions, do make contacts and do your research to make the best decision you are able. Not all Parrots live to a ripe old age, some have heart problems or other unseen internal problems or meet with an accident and we out live them. Thinking practically about this issue prior to need. I also suggest talking to your bird about your thought process as I think it helps us and lets them know how much we care. Even if they don't understand all the words they understand our feelings.
  11. What a moment, she has decided you must be ok and part of her flock.
  12. We have some wonderful people who generously share their experiences, hard won knowledge and advice and Jayd is one of the most generous. Greyt Grey folks here. DogsBirdsFish you are on the right track.
  13. Left us hanging there-what color? Glad the transfer went so well they are not at all spoiled are they?
  14. That does warm the heart. So sweet when they progress to trusting you that much.
  15. That is definitely not a good interaction. Sounds like he should have stayed inside his castle. One of those unpredictable behavior moments. Perhaps Pat should just talk to him while he is inside the cage until he forgets what ever set him off.
  16. I love the name Miranda it has some flair. Welcome and will look forward to your photos.
  17. Aaah a restful place to avoid being worried about writers block. giggles
  18. I knew you could do it, just takes enormous patience and getting every one on the same page.
  19. I understand this may be working for you and Ollie but it would not be a recommended training method for most Greys. They are a prey animal in the wild and retain that predator avoidance behavior so a very rapid move in their direction is not a way to build trust. Building trust is a very powerful part of living happily and fully with a Grey. Many birds would feel stressed by a rapid hand action such as you have described and am happy for Ollie that he handles your method so calmly most birds would not. Some would panic and some may bite and many people would find they may have damaged the trust bond they had been building. Trust is the basis of most successful relationships.
  20. Pigeons do have sweet personalities, may he fly forever in your hearts.
  21. Not my work but thought I would share our Spring Flowers- Blossoming bluebonnets: Spring arrives with a field full of flowers
  22. Poor you and poor Gus communication issue when concentrating on task at hand. I feel your pain! Perhaps you need that cup of chamomile tea?
  23. There can be so many causes of plucking-bacteria or yeast on the skin, underlying health and nutrition problems, dry skin, boredom and transient pain form a previous injury. You really need a qualified Avian Veterinarian to take a good look and diagnose the cause so you know where to start with a treatment.
  24. Welcome among us and will enjoy hearing about your new adventures with your expanding flock.
