  1. It really is an ongoing process, you have great capacity for learning and helping Gus move forward. Your dedication and flexibility are very good examples for every one dealing with a Parrot who brings more history than average. Once you understand more of what he has been dealing with you see progress every time. Gus and both of you are on this journey together and you will get to a happier place (between the tears and the hysterical laughter). From one who lives with two Too's. >:>
  2. Not really flying, it just kind of floated. I do love your sharp rapier like wit and use of acronym.
  3. He is afraid of the plastic bottle the way you are playing is threatening to him. I am sure you are not meaning to scare him, try just putting some almonds or marbles inside the bottle. Then shake it a little and lay it down for him to investigate. Let him play by himself. To interact with him maybe tug-of -war with a sock or scarf would be less frightening. Want to keep your relationship with Richard a good one based on trust.
  4. So very true, lol indeed.
  5. Please ck that blow dryer as some contain Teflon and can off gas toxins when scratched or on high heat.
  6. Some times when a behavior is extinguishing you can get a real surge of the behavior you are working on avoiding, I think that is some corollary of Murphy's Law. Or just a Cockatoo thing. >:>
  7. I had never thought of the heat factor that is an interesting observation.
  8. Jay and Maggie you would enjoy "The Uplift Wars" by David Brinn. On the subject of the ball of light -When the kids were small one of those light or energy balls entered our living room through a closed window moved around the room from right to left knocking over some nick knack then made a popping sound and disappeared. It did make a blank spot on our window tinting about 4-5"'s across. It made the hair on our arms and neck stand up. It was not raining at the time or even threatening. One of those odd happenstances. Kids were very quiet after that, hubby not certain we really saw that and the kids still remember that afternoon and now they are in their 20's and early 30's.
  9. Charlie knows when he has it good, smart boy.
  10. Adding another layer to this discussion-cats seem to feel the energy between what we are concentrating on or trying to work on and delight in intercepting that energy by getting between us and what we are concentrating on. Yes our Cockatoo 's do this as well, but they have to take over where the cats seem to be content to bask in that thought stream.
  11. Now I get this message when attempting to post a reply to paranormal greys-had to reenter the forum again. The following errors occurred with your submission You do not have permission to perform this action. Please refresh the page and login before trying again.
  12. I think they have you outnumbered. Wearing at hat helps to avoid those sneak attacks on your head & neck.
  13. Horse whisperer or dog whisperer they evoke the same idea of reward the positive and ignoring the less acceptable. Great descriptive guidelines Trance.
  14. I can visualize that, fun for the bird but not the mammals.
  15. Ok then try a shallow pan or earthenware crock.
  16. You have a clear head Judy, good advice!
  17. Just wondering how the Vet visit went and if this was an average dropping for her or an unusual one?
  18. Wow flighted dogs? At our house only Pookie CAG & Fred fred SC2 get along, no love but they coexist well. Whisper big CAG girl, Smokey Joe are both more aggressive and have to have a handler or only bird status when out, they also get down and go walk about with dogs and cats eek. Harry Too has the least out time due to his preferred activities which include stalking other birds, stalking some family members, eating parts of the house and generally running amok. Supervision is difficult with a very active, quick & large strong minded Cockatoo. We love him but he is the biggest challenge to full integration of species in our home. The Tiels and Keets are all elderly and have not gotten out of cage time in a while, just not safe. They do get wheeled outside to enjoy the Sunshine and wild bird viewing on the back patio.
  19. Try putting a container on the floor of his cage, not in a place he usually voids his droppings. You can add shredded paper, large marbles foot toys what ever lets see if he does better foraging for his food. They do ground feed in the wild at least part of the time. You can also ball up a sock and see if you can get him to play ball, catching his toss and gently tossing it back to him. As he like to throw things try making it a family activity, he is a Too and is most likely certain he is of your flock.
  20. It must time out quickly as I have relog in if site is open too long. This is new for me today.
  21. Sometimes when it loads there is no thank you box under the posts and now I have to keep logging in. It seems to be getting glitchier now.
  22. He is doing his best baby bird imitation, it worked!
  23. I would suggest a step backwards for now, less physical interaction.
