  1. Dave is right a Vet visit is the only way to find the cause as there are so many things that could be causing the problem. Bacterial or yeast infection, hardware disease, slow crop or a growth or injury and one more thing sometimes a bored bird that has had to entertain it's self may learn to swallow air and keep that crop inflated. Hope it is a simple fix and kuddos to you for stepping up for this girl.
  2. Makes you want to ask if a "Conjur" is a magical Conure? Poor little Grey guy I think he needs rescueing.
  3. There are also Golden beets not quite so dramatic droppings that way. Great nutrition and you can add to the end of the cooking process of your rice and beans mix along with some Sweet Potato or Squash.
  4. Try a Sugar Glider type set up but pad the ramps(wrap with Vet wrap) and place branches or perches with forks and deep curves so he can support himself comfortably upright.
  5. They are so delicate when so young and have very little resilience if something does go wrong so your decision to have your concerns addressed was excellent even if expensive. Good work!
  6. I love a happy match up, what a wonderful resolution.
  7. Thank you for letting us know of his progress and so happy he is doing much better, good care and love will always help.
  8. Love that food face, cute little guy. Enjoy those baby times while they last.
  9. Mandy I thank you for sticking with us even when being slammed due to lack of understanding your situation, we all just want the best for this Grey bird. I also do rescue work and have a family and am a cancer survivor so I do understand how big your heart is.
  10. A good sign he has enough energy to flap, just stretching and building muscles.
  11. Put his cage as high as you can so it is visible to him, make sure food and water are available inside the cage. Ask the neighborhood kids to keep a look out too they often see things we may miss. Good luck and do not give up!
  12. Yay for her progress! Good work and keeping them busy does help.
  13. So mix it up never give the same reaction to avoid the bird training you to reward the behavior, move him, distract him lots of verbal interaction. I usually don't even give a no, just move away from object and distract with behavior, toys or a treat.
  14. You handle the situation like you would a very young child, distraction. When they go for something unsafe you provide another item or action to obtain their interest. So if your bird has flown to the window and wants to take chunks out of the woodwork, you can step him or her up and move to another play area or for a treat, sing and dance loudly as a distraction to get them involved or place back in the cage for a few minutes and start again in a safe place.
  15. Happy ending to your tale-just keep in mind that birds even properly clipped wings can gain altitude and disapear in seconds when conditions are just right. A gust of wind a sudden noise a sudden fright and off they go leaving us in disbelief on the ground. Adding a screen door or entry way will help and never go outside with her with out a harness or a carry cage to be extra safe!
  16. you might try adding a cover to one side of his cage to provide him a little privacy, perhaps the side between him and the scary new birds? Do you play any music for them when you are not there? Are you tense when approaching his cage at bedtime? Suggest offering a treat when you get home or at the night night time to provide something positive with the action and words.
  17. Go for the darker colored veggies and fruits-Kale, Broccoli, carrots, sweet potato, Mango, Beets, Squash-you get the idea organic if possible do wash well. You can cook up some beans & lentiels just until the begin to soften and add red pepper or ginger to the mix and some Red Palm Oil asd it cools. Sprouting grains and nuts and seeds offers some wonderful nutrition as well. Here is a a link to one source who has a cheap sprout starter kit and offer a selection just for birds http://www.sproutpeople.com
  18. Yes they can have a spectacular rainbow of just green, beautiful birds.
  19. 3 To 4 clutches a year would physically exhaust the birds that would be an abusive situation.
  20. Agreed the Bird tricks site does not build any trust it flood the bird to get an immediate response not a long term workable relationship. Do find the Yahoo bird clicker training group or Barbara Heidenreich has lots of free information available and she explains how to build trust and accomplish your goals, the best I can offer is relax and work with Patience.
  21. Ground cinnamon and cayenne powder also coagulate blood and can be used in an emergency situation, the cayenne also regulated blood pressure equalizing between the wound and the rest of the body. In an emergency you keep the warm and you must remain calm-wonderful idea to research before the emergency, good work! The liquid sealant is a medical form of super glue developed on the battle field.
  22. They make them large enough for a dog to crawl through. Nice job on that toy, your bird child should appreciate your gift.
  23. You can also give the cage paper a light misting prior to removing it when cleaning the cage to avoid the dust becoming airborne.
