  1. He has taken over your training and you are learning fast, good work!
  2. I suggest just leaving it where he can see the toy & just ignore for now. The more you try to encourage him the deep his aversion may get.
  3. Twenty years ago even Zoo's supplemented Parrot diets with dog chow now we know better. They do not need as much animal fat or protein or iron as is contained in dog chow. Also many brands of dog chow contain sugars, salts and even rancid fats definitely not recommended for birds may also contain some insecticides, antibiotics and bacteria. I would think that one occasional piece should not be an issue but I do not feed it to mine. A chicken bone or some water packed tuna or Salmon is fine. Yours seems to not have meat so that problem is avoided but it does contain more vitamins than required in addition to his regular diet.
  4. Agree with the consensus here, at our house the two Greys that whistle the most also talk the most.
  5. My foster CAG Smoky Joe when asked to step up last week told me "I don't think so". By the way he just loves my son but I am only his maid service and cook.
  6. That is a normal variation of the tail color in the Timneh's some do have the maroon tail and some the Grey tail feathers I believe that it is one of the local subspecies variations.
  7. Could it be Pumpernickel? If so it is a multigrain complex bread and should not be a hazard as long as it is balanced with other foods such as dark leafy greens ect. Do read the label for sodium, and sugar content we need to keep both of those low.
  8. Birds brain process is telling your Christian to protect you from the perceived danger/challenger by driving you away. He Would do the same thing with his mate/best buddy in the wild. Avoiding the bite is the best thing so you have to think ahead, when he is out keep that brain occupied, consider a wing clip (altitude adjustment) like a child quickly change the subject of his focus. Time to sing & dance a spray bath something that grabs his attention for a while. If you do cage him just do a quick 1-2 minute time out with a little treat waiting in the cage for going back in not for the previous behavior that caused the trouble. Greys are so smart sometimes they are better a training us than we realize.
  9. Little stinker got caught, now you need a phone lock. Love the picture and that is life with a Grey.
  10. Maybe you can take this baby some healthy foods at least show the woman you really care about the bird maybe work out a payment plan if required.
  11. Pain and memories that are good, keep the hope alive and I believe some one has him safe.
  12. Always Greyt to meet another bird person & no worries your English is much better than my grasp of most other languages.
  13. All our birds but 2 Cockatiels are from other places and some have had many bad homes prior to living with us.
  14. This lady is in Florida and hers are fresh in season- they arrived nice and undamaged. thecozynestbox@gmail.com
  15. Good to see you here again, do keep checking in so we can say Hi!
  16. Your fluid intervention was a fortunate thing as we know dehydration is what most often does them in in these near death issues. You are so fortunate to have saved her thank heavens for your training and the availability of fluids. I love a happy ending!!
  17. They find a way to communicate in our "foreign language". One of the Greys at the house has learned to burp loudly as my youngest son thinks it is funny. Now this grey Smokey Joe greets this son of ours with a loud burp so *I believe that is his name in Smokey Joe dialect. Loved your story it does sound like real time Grey.
  18. Adorable babies, love those photos and appreciate your sharing your flock. Welcome a-board!
  19. http://www.wingsatplay.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=1 Link for Avian Veterinarians by state hope it helps.
  20. Where are you located? If her droppings are watery she can dehydrate easily can you get some Coconut juice or half gatorade and half water into her? You may want to try spoon feeding some warm mash to keep her energy up. Yes Metacam is an anti inflamatory you may want to ask a Vet by phone if Benedryl may be helpful-do not dose on your own. Sick birds can succumb to dehydration so do get her to drink, eat grapes or what ever you can tempt her with . Do keep trying to find a good avian Vet even if you have to call them for help due to distance. 1) YES somewhat 2)Not convinced 3)serious 4)get some help now, birds have very little reserve energy to fight with 5)Yes do push foods and liquids, tempt her with treats and keep her warm 6)Add a clean mist vaporizer with no additives just water or take her to the bathroom with a hot steamy shower running & see if that eases her breathing. (Do not put her in the shower)
  21. My contribution is maybe she recognizes that you are hers, rather than the other way round. >:>
  22. Just a heads up from some one whose bird has suffered due to guaranteed safe powder coat on a new cage. I have been working with the owner of the Hyacinth for the past 3 weeks... The bird is a bar chewer and just prior to his illness - he chewed more aggressively on the bars. I have been sharing heavy metal poisoning information with the owner to help get this bird over the crisis. Unfortunately the vet was treating for infection and not heavy metals. All the symptoms clustered around heavy metal poisoning and not infection. When presented with all the Hyacinth's symptoms - the vet agreed that heavy metals are the cause. Specialists have been called into the mix to get this bird on the mend. The Hyacinth was near death and he is not out of the woods yet. So - this has been intense and highly emotional. A word to the wise --- if you have a powder coated painted cage and it is not Stainless Steel -- then get it tested. It does not make any difference if you have a China made cage, European made cage or any made cage… if it is painted then get it tested. Your bird’s life is at stake. End of addendum... --------------------------------------------------------- Enough of the background information... Here is what you must do: Send paint scrapings off to the lab that I list here. DO NOT send anything other that paint scrapings. DO NOT send a part (metal bar or such). ONLY follow the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (LADDL) directions layed out here. In your letter to the lab - tell them that the samples are from a bird cage and you want the DIGESTION method performed.
  23. Raw in the shell is what we order at our house.
  24. I ave ordered from them, Goji berries and Pine nuts in the shell. Very happy with the product, by the way the dark chocolate covered Goji berries were for me. yum
