  1. Watch her and if she still isn't eating later today do report to your Vet.
  2. Crushing loss my heart goes out to you, do have her necropsy so you have some answers and can move forward.
  3. I understand Canberra had a snowfall yesterday so it must have been cold there. Love sharing a look at your wild neighbors!
  4. I am hoping it is an allergy rather than an illness, let us know how the Vet visit goes please.
  5. Looking good, you have them looking better and definitely looking happy!
  6. Walter the Grey sounds very dignified, welcome.
  7. I know what it feels like when you are juggling so many strong feelings and health issues, take that deep breath and remember not to waste perfectly good worrying before you know you really need it. Keep on one step at a time!
  8. Some bird are just naturally more slender than other of the same species, like they are all telling you keep a weekly weight journal and don"t stress.
  9. That is a great approach, patience & rewarding the behaviors you wish to repeat. Good job!
  10. (Phys.org) -- A team of German and Austrian researchers has found that Grey parrots are capable of inferential reasoning on a level that is superior to virtually all other animals save great apes and humans. In lab experiments involving choosing which box contains food, the researchers describe, in their paper published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, how the birds were able to infer through auditory clues, which box contained a hidden food treat. 11. Hello Ray, I am unable to post even a link to this great research article on Greys. Here is the link for you to view. http://phys.org/news/2012-08-grey-parrots-inferential.html

Never had this difficulty before. Thank you-Jill Greywings

  12. Will be interesting finding out about his crop, progress they are making is Greyt!
  13. I still enjoy watching the action even if I have heard the results. Opening ceremony went well and the volunteers changing the sets as they went was one of my favorite parts-clever use of people & scenery. I love Olympic years, just don't get to watch enough as I work and we don't have cable.
  14. Sounds like fun! A bird board meet up could be an event.
  15. Your decision but if safety is a concern have it removed as I know of several birds who have caught those leg bands on toys. I have rescued a Senegal who got caught on cage wire (while it's cage mates tried to save it from me OUCH) and helped a Molluccan who got hers caught on a toy (she was brave and stoic), don't know how long she was trapped but the leg was swollen when I found her. Our Vet at the Sanctuary does suggest removing them to avoid this type of injury. With micro-chipping available the bands loose value, some are very difficult to trace anyway.
  16. I love her too, our Smartee Pants has a similar leg issue and he has no trouble ge3tting around either. That is one very happy girl you have brought home!
  17. Like potato chips bettcha cannot keep just one.

    Help...

If he is not using it properly do have the Vet ck it he may need a little extra help. Hard to know if the bone is damaged from the outside, watch for any swelling or any further biting of the area. Vet may offer something to reduce inflammation and pain.
  19. Beautiful food and beautiful birds I love your little photo essay!
  20. Well written and I can feel the love. One of our birds loves to be brushed silly bird.
  21. First of all Welcome and second let me praise you for asking questions first. I have both a Tag and some Cag's each one is unique in personality, tolerance, fears, likes & dislikes. As you have children you already know how each of them differ in abilities & responses to your leads. Only you know if your kids will show respect towards a bird that can hurt them but needs daily care and play. My kids grew up with birds cats & dogs so I can tell you it worked for us but at that time we had two Amazons rather than Greys.
  22. They were generous and donated a big pallet of the tropical pellets to the Sanctuary and it was most appreciated. I also add the soaked pellets to make a base for the birdy bread.
