    Leaves

Well, our fall is now here...and leaves are starting to fall. Jasper has just now noticed this. He stares WIDE EYED out the window and follows the falling leaf all the way down. then looks at me like I'm half nuts! Like it's my fault these leaves are falling to the ground! Then will stand there and look for another one. It's pretty funny to watch, I tried getting a picture, but of course, you open the camera and all they do is look at you... Does your bird do anything funny when they see leaves? (I'd love to hear what Spock thinks of this!)
  2. LOL!!! You've got me rolling over here! I was also thinking that Harvey's got you well trained! hehe... (but don't all of our birds have us well trained?)
  3. good to know! I didn't know about flour and that being able to stop a bleed! Thanks for the info! Glad Harvey is ok too
  4. i would have freaked out too! When we had our lorikeet, he would lay on his back and play. He would lay on his back in the crook of my arm and just lay there. They do some of the weirdest things! Although, I would keep an eye on his other behavior...pooing and eating to just make sure everything is ok
  5. Thanks guys! I would also cry...but I'm lucky, the guy who does their nails always asks! I will never trust our husky with a bird being out. we had a little red lorikeet and she snuck into our bedroom (with me and the bird on the bed) waited until I wasn't looking and grabbed our lorikeet and threw him on the floor. His talon was hurt, but otherwise ok and he recovered. But after that...no more victoria (husky) being out with our birds! Rocky, our rottweiler, is so laid back, he doesn't care, but he does not like it when Bella (our U-TOO) runs after him. Of course, I'm right behind her telling Rocky to just stay and that I"m coming! (she gets down and runs around a LOT) I so need to see the picture of the dogs faces when your bird lands on them! i can just almost picture it... lol
  6. i was also going to say closet talker!!! Which makes it hard to convince your friends that your bird really does talk! lol...
  7. I wish could fly too...it is a very unique thing to see! I have seen him stop mid air and turn to go the other way. And he did land on my head, scream and fly off. I was like, what? and then when he landed, he laughed. Silly boy!
  8. good to see you back Jill!!! Glad Harvey is talking and I also can't wait to see pictures!
  9. wow. I have always thought peacocks were pretty, but that white one takes the cake! so pretty! Thanks for sharing! Ray - thanks for sharing yours too...
  10. Birdnut - no kidding!!! I thought the way Jasper (grey) reacts to new toys was 'oh my a new toy let's pretend it isn't here' and the leaning away from new toys was skittish...until I got Bella! She is the worst with new toys! I remember one time, showing her a new toy and then putting it in her cage. She completely flipped out. It's so cute how Gwyneth will only play with the new toy after the conures have and lived through it... lol. Birds are so funny! birdhouse - thank you! Totally made my day!
  11. you are so right! Sleep is over rated! lol... My dog who gets me up all the time, actually slept last night! All night...granted, we didn't go to bed until 12:30, but she didn't get me up 1 hour after we went to sleep... However, my daughter decided to put her milk cup (covered with a lid/straw) on my hip last night...so, i got woken up with cold milk seeping through my comforter, me and finally the sheet and onto the mattress. all I can do is laugh about it! it could be worse...
  12. lol! how funny... what a wake up call!
  13. welcome! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us! your baby is cute!
  14. He is adorable!!!! Hi and welcome! I leave my birds flight feathers alone. At first, it was soooooooo nerve racking because I thought Jasper was never going to learn how to land...pillows were suggested when I asked and they do work great until your baby gets the whole landing thing down pat. But it will come! Jasper is still learning about windows, but something on a window will help prevent that (even masking tape on a window can work) Just to let you know, you might not hear a first word for quite awhile... and even then, it can be completely garbled and not clear for a while.... I 'think' we had Jasper for at least 2-4 months before he said his first word. Now, he can talk pretty well when he wants too! A few days without a word will go by and then all of a sudden, it's talk city. Glad you joined! These guys are great around here!
  15. oh, that's a good idea luvparrots! Thankfully she doesn't use face paint alot! Temporary tattoos, however, she loves them (and knows how to put them on herself!), but keep fingers crossed that Bella will always be ok with those (she doesn't seem to care about them). I will do that if Bella or Jasper starts freaking out about those temporary tats. Jay - American Indian flute music?!? oh dear! And that's probably (one) of your and Maggie's favorite music! Jasper isn't a fan of 'fast' pace music which is mine, DD and Bella's favorite!
  16. she's beautiful!!! Congrats on your baby I sooo miss those baby noises and things they do!!! Thanks for posting pictures and letting us know about your baby!
  17. I am sooo sorry of your loss. Maybe a quick search on google would help? like... african grey breeder (hometown) and see what that brings up...
  18. it's very interesting on exactly what they find to be a threat... Glad I did everything right... There is no way I let DD handle her or go near her when Bella's upset. And my DD knows not to go near her when she's doing her dance... I just wasn't sure if waiting and talking calmly to her until she calmed down was smart or if we should have just left the room and not let her out until the facepaint was gone. I didn't want to leave and for Bella to think that it was ok to act like that to my DD either. One valuable lesson I learned is that I won't ever let Bella see facepaint again!
  19. Sounds like you guys are doing great!!! He's a cutie
  20. Well, my DH, daughter and I went to a pumpkin patch this weekend. My daughter got her face painted as a tiger (it was sooooo cute!) We went home, it smeared somewhat (she fell asleep in the car and had a few tears) SO... Jasper (grey) was in the living room, he did not notice my daughters face paint. But then, he does not let her do anything with him. Now, Bella (U-Too) on the other hand, my daughter picks her up, cuddles, will carry her and Bella will step down or step up for my daughter. So...we're in the bathroom, Bella comes walking in. I pick her up and give scratches. The second she noticed my DD's face, she puffed up and was hissing and doing the cockatoo dance on my hand. I put my other hand on her shoulders to make sure if she dove for my DD, she wouldn't get very far. I had DD stand still and talk softly for Bella. She kept hissing and feathers puffed up. So, I took Bella and DD to the birds room. Put Bella in her cage and then we stayed in the birds room. DD was at a distance, talking, telling her it was just her and not to be upset. We stayed (what seemed like forever) until Bella had calmed down enough to put her feathers back down (they were a little bit raised, but not the standing on end like before) so, then, I let Bella see me wash off face paint. After that, bella was fine. She didn't come out of her cage (i didn't let her) as it was close to bedtime, I just went ahead and shut off the light so she would go to sleep. The next morning she was fine. Did I handle the situation correctly? And I guess in the future, Bella can't be out while we have on facepaint...
  21. Ok Sully, you gotta listen up to your mommy's note to you! Now, sleep! I can totally relate...and I so feel for you! Although, it's not any one of my two birds, it's one of my dogs who gets up 1-3 times a night (she HATES the dark, btw) and my 4 year old daughter! Would a darker cage or room help him sleep a bit longer?
  22. how awesome! I too, can't wait to hear of more updates! That hawk didn't look too happy when he woke, but it was almost a 'thank you' behind his eyes...
  23. Thank you for the update! (I want more as the week goes on!) I will be praying for him and you guys. Prayers in numbers is quite a powerful thing.
  24. luvparrots - glad mine isn't the only one!!! I bet you get some pretty looking ones! I always stop and admire when my TOO ones falls out!
