  1. Yes Jill, you and many others have seen a side that has been quietly tucked away for a while now. I probably wasn't sensible before, but at least I was keeping it to myself and here I am joining forums and telling tales. Judy, little did my husband know what he was giving up when I did the switcheroo on the birthday cruise and used his savings to buy Juno. Today, all the books and cds came out of the armoire in our room and it is stocked with all the toy making, seed sprouting, poop cleaning, bullet proof toys playing parrot things. But, I did still have a little sensibility. I had the sense to use different accounts and spread checks out to buy my stuff on a second trip to the bird fair while he was watching football... LOL
  2. Thanks for the support. I have the phone number for the breeder and have had the discipline not to call them, I know they have a busy life with family, work, and putting a lot of time in with these three youngsters. Juno is healthy and active, I have never heard him or his brothers growl. I know this couple is teaching him how to be a bird, how to be independent and that is going to be an advantage to us later. The happiest moment of all was when my husband said if Juno is weaned and ready sooner than my four day weekend in Houston, he would take two days off work to care for him. That is big!

    Splay Legs

Jesse is a beauty and so grown up now too. I may not have any advice for her legs, but can guarantee a lot of good people are asking a lot more good people, and someone will come up with ideas to enrich your lives. I am a sewer, if you have any ideas for a sling, or sleep tent, I would gladly work with you to modify a design that would keep her snug and comfy all night. I have a sister who was born with no moving joints and we came up with a lot of ideas to expand her abiliities. All my best to your and your family.
  4. I think asking my devoted husband to bring in Juno, with a huge cage and to take me back to the bird fair spending a hundred dollars an hour to furnish it, and giving up his favored spot for the new guy is about as wild as I dare to get, LOL. Now if we are talking swinging, how about that new orbit or atom swinging from a shower tension rod in the doorway? How about those new rope swings and things? LOL
  5. Good news today when I was back for another long visit, there was a phone call from the vet caring for Brother 3. It looks like the vet was able to clear the obstruction without surgery. I bought two more books to read about caring for an African Grey, to go along with what I have been learning here. One more bit of good news was the boys did not take their formula last night making it the first time they were not hand fed for a whole day. That doesn't mean they are weaned, just that it is getting closer. They will keep them two weeks longer from when they give up hand feeding altogether. There is just no way of setting a date and I'm okay with that.
  6. Thanks to both of you for the update. It is a relief to understand that every situation and every African Grey is different. There are moments when the new arrival date for Juno is getting closer that I have terrorizing moments of wondering if I am up to the level of this bundle of energy and curiosity. It bolsters my confidence to know so many of you are out there with experience and the best interest of every bird at heart. Thanks so much for sharing.
  7. You know, I started reading all the forums to learn about parrots. Believe me, I appreciate you all so much. Then, I started getting to know you through threads like this one, I have to move my computer because Java is mocking my laugh! I came across the corrupt-a-dream today. I am working backward from page 25, thru 14 and I think we have more than a few renegades... Judy{Feel-good-0002006E} I keep interrupting my husband's work to read to him!

  9. The good news is that Juno isn't clipped and he is able to fly. The bad news is, I couldn't hold him because he can fly and they are in a public place. They do keep the little ones secluded and I can only spend time with him if I come straight from home, wear a smock, scrub with sanitizer. They are at a bird fair for their business and once I leave and look around, I can't come back in where the boys were kept. I stayed with him for three hours, fed him and his brother some banana and gave him scratches through the bars. He was amazing. He stayed on the bars like a magnet and watched every move I made. He was very social while his brother could care less about me, except for that banana. LOL Sad news about the third brother, he has a crop obstruction and is in the hospital. They are doing all they can and plan for him to have surgery Monday if not sooner. It feels a little mean to have a moment where I was just glad it isn't Juno, but I really do care about his brother too. Juno's eyes are starting to get lighter, kind of silvery grey. The count down is on, it shouldn't be long now. I will see him again tomorrow. Thanks for caring, forum folks. Dee
  10. What a great idea! My travel cages for my smaller bird have wider slots on the bottom so I couldn't leave the tray out, but the one I got for Juno would work just like the Poquitos. It even has casters on the bottom to wheel it to the door. Of course even with it secured, I would stay out there with him, but to let him happily make a mess and fling food to his hearts content, this will be wonderful for an outing.
  11. Well done for Sachi, this is a lovely home. I especially like the picture of her practicing to be a contortionist. She is beauty.
  12. Thanks for asking ranaz, I thought everyone was refering to the update pictures as the webcam. This is a great thread to watch. Thanks Spinner.
  13. The waiting part will be hard for you. We are all keeping positive thoughts for you and hope for the best of news at the end of the month.
  14. JillyBeanz, I have noticed you bring up these rogue topics, you renegade.{Characters-0002005F}
  15. Luvparrots, that is not out of the question. My daughter was stopped in NC this summer. Apparently 10mph under the limit is probable cause. After all these years with me she is the opposite. To be fair, I have logged more than 600,000 miles, with only 2 tickets. One was 1980, and the other was  last year. I guess I do more damage at slow speeds.
  16. What a gorgeous companion! He is a busy, well entertained fellow. Thanks for sharing these photos with us.
  17. The good news is that the larger birds are supposed to be easier to get into the harness. In the video he was grooming a macaw to wear the harness and taking time and patience is the key. I started practicing on my "little" bird. She is three and pretty sassy, but has let me make a loop and put it over her head. I have been practicing to gently hold up one wing at a time and doing the 1-2-3 count before letting it go. The benefits of harness training will be worth it.
  18. Let me synchronize my clocks for this, I am GMT -6 Saturday I will be watching the skies for this Bernie
  19. We will just have to get your wife to pass out the web address for the forum to hand out to all the ladies in the winners circle Bernie Judy, it isn't that ladies can't play with the powerboats and other toys, it is just harder to take when the fellows have to follow us!
  20. Thanks folks, she has been the light of our lives and gave us confidence to get our CAG. The lampshades have not been safe this week, today all of the lamps are bare. The silk mango tree has also been a target. She knows something is up with that big cage next to hers. We are putting a piece of acrylic on top of the new cage and teaching her to stay off!
  21. Lampshade campaign this week.
  22. I heard this fabulous wrinkle cream only works for men.
  23. Okay, I want permission to join the babes of Bernie. I agree with all these people, Bernie, you are a keeper. I laugh everyday as you share your funny personality. From the penguin on your signature to your boating forays, you brighten my day.
  24. Top ten interesting facts about Java 10. Java is a red bellied poicephalus hen 9. Her eyes are red, scary to see her pinning 8. She is three years old 7. She weighs 136 grams... about a quarter of a pound 6. Flying payload is twice her body weight, she dropped a thick glass shotglass on my head 5. She steals toys from puppies, carries them to a high spot and whistles to them to tease 4. In just two days with me, she learned to put her beak in the latch of my laptop to turn it off. Does this whenever I am looking at other birds, LOL 3. If she gets quiet, always look in the silk mango tree, she rips off fifty leaves in less than 2 minutes 2. Blows kisses, meows and purrs when she is begging for spicy foods she isn't allowed to share with us 1. Spoke only fifteen words in first three years, but talks now every day since we have been watching videos of African greys since we committed to Juno.
  25. Welcome to the forum, this is a friendly, helpful group. Wow! It looks like you have your hands full of birds... and now Lulu will have to take her position on top of your head. Just kidding of course. Good luck bringing her into your flock. I hope all three become good friends and good company for you and for one another.
