3. Hi all, it just occurred to us that we have not done a Spock update for a little while so we thought we would let you know how he was doing... At this time we are "cautiously optimistic"...he seems to be holding his weight in the mornings (after his big bomb) and his appetite has increased. He has changed the foods he is eating but we still can't get him to eat oatmeal or pellets. :pinch: Besides his standard diet, he is eating more organic rice and his split peas (green and yellow) along with his lentils. He is also eating a 1/4 slice of multi-grain wheat bread with peanut butter and he is eating his tuna sandwiches again. Last night he ate about about an ounce of chicken breast with his baked potato.:woohoo: He still tires out in the evening and you can see his bags under his eyes and he is molting... A bit of encouraging note, he ceased his eating during his sleep period (11-12 hours) and he is still maintaining 435 to 442 grams every morning. His chest is still protruding and his crop is still sunken but he is somewhat more cuddly and affectionate... We are keeping our fingers and toes crossed....thank you all for your constant support and prayers... 5. Each entry was outstanding on it's own merits. I judged by the rules I set, "Everyone is a Winner"......How can there be a loser when I knew the entry's would be 1st class.... Thank You All... Jayd
 6. Jill, My personal feelings on *Supplements* If its not for a medical reason I don't like to give them...UVA AND UVB are present to some extent on even on some over cast days.A nominal amount of around 4 hr's a day of *Full Spectrum lighting* is usually sufficient.I know your a good parront, and your food choices are right-on;) Jayd
 7. Calcium: Food or Sun? There seems to be a lot of talk on the net about calcium absorption in Greys. The latest theories seem to be pointing toward the fact that there is speculation that Greys might not absorb Vitamin D well in food sources. "Research shows when exposed to full spectrum light or sunlight, serum levels of Calcium increase. Parrots are able to manufacture their own Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight." (Pamela Clark CVT, CPPC) Good sources of calcium are tofu, kale, turnip greens and a good source of Vitamin D is dark green leafy vegetables. Kale is an excellent source of absorb-able calcium. So it appears, give your Grey more sun or full spectrum lighting. Jayd
 8. Take the baby, more than likely feathers around neck won't come back, looks like to much damage. They eat a little extra fruit and a regular diet, good talkers, ours get along with our Mitered Conure and 'Tiels. For a small body they have a real long tail. Looks like it might be a female...Jayd Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/03/30 19:06

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/03/30 19:08

 12. Go to a Dollar Store, they have *small Hula-Hoops*, buy 3, buy 6 stainless steel bolts nuts, some welded small chain and a "Swag Lamp" hanger [Walmart or hardware store]. Line up the hoops and drill holes [you can heat a screw driver and melt holes in hoops] and bolt together. Wrap with *Vet Wrap*, loop chain around hoops. Drill hole in ceiling to insert swag hanger,[spring loaded not screw]. This is expensive;) round 10 to 12 dollars. Jayd

Post edited by: Jayd, at: 2010/03/29 18:37
 13. A personal apology to RudysMom...Please don't let this banter bother you and please don't stop posting! Your post was a good one, Dan and others gave you good reply's which is all that counts. It never hurts to show respect...When a person on the Forum asks for advice from people they trust, it's a shame when it turns embarrassing..When you make your choice, we all want to know!!! Jayd
