  5. Thank you. Most members here use the "Aviator Harness", It's the most popular and appears to be the safest, lot's of forum post's on it...Really sorry you felt you had to clip his wings, "The Soul of a Bird", they can grow back. Preventive measures to make a safe environment for our Grey's is far more rewarding. "Clipped Wings, I can Fly" Spock here!, Yes,clipped wings, no problem, airplanes fly with out flapping... all I need to do is to spread my wings, wait for a little wind, and I'm off, a flap or two...Better yet, open my wings and jump, slight breeze and I'm gone!!! higher higher into a tree, now I'm scared, what to do? my wings are clipped, no breeze, jump-flap, TO FAR OFF GROUND!.....then again, what if there was still a breeze? Ok, jump-flap, uh-o, wrong way, it's taking me the wrong way WHERE ARE YOU? I'm lost!!!!! Spock Live Long and Prosper...
  6. Thank you all, I might have missed a couple, I'll keep looking.. Jayd
  7. Question? Is he tethered? or under a enclosed covering? What keeps him from flying away? Is he clipped?, As you know, a clipped bird can fly!!! There's a lot of posts here of clipped winged birds being lost, and plenty of sad tales of birds flying out the door, being lost. There's many story's of "How and Why" a clipped winged bird can fly!Do you have a tether? Jayd P.S. Sorry, I worry anytime I see a unharnessed bird outside!
  8. Thank you for homing a rescue....Love your photo's.....

  15. Look what I've found, another beauty ! Enjoy Vinacea Amazons / Vinaceous Amazons The Vinaceous Amazon Parrot (Amazona vinacea) is also known as Vinaceous Amazon, Amazone Bourgogne, Amazone Vineuse, Amazona Pechivinosa, Amazona Vinosa, Loro Pechivinoso, or Loro Pecho Vinoso. NOTE: 2010 IUCN Red List Category (as evaluated by BirdLife International - the official Red List Authority for birds for IUCN): Endangered Justification This species has been unlisted to Endangered because recent population estimates from Brazil indicate that the global population is smaller than was previously thought; this very small population has suffered a rapid decline owing to extensive habitat loss and fragmentation, compounded by trade, and rapid declines are projected to continue. Further clarification is needed as to whether any Brazilian sub-populations exceed 250 individuals. Distribution / Range This sweetheart is rare in its extensive native range in northeast Argentina, southeastern Brazil and eastern Paraguay. They live in the lowland and highland Atlantic forests, mountains and plantations, extending up to 2000 meters. The Vinaceous Amazon Parrot is a protected species as it is threatened by habitat loss. It is also not readily available in aviculture and every effort should be made to breed available breeding stock. Natural Habitat In their natural habitat, Vinaceous amazons are estimated to live up to 50 years, judging by life span of similar species. As this species is rare in aviculture, there is little known about their lifespan in captivity. Description: Vinaceous amazons are medium-sized, stocky green parrots, measuring 30 to 36 cm (12 - 14 inch) from beak to tail and weighing 300 to 450 grams. They have been named for their vinaceous or purple-maroon belly patch, which appears as a suffusion of color on their heavily scalloped chest and abdomen coverts. This colorful parrot has a bright green plumage with a dark edging to feathers, giving scaly effect. It has a narrow red forehead, lores (the regions between the eyes and bill on the side of a bird's head) and speculum (= distinctive wing patch) ; and its nape is pale bluish. The breast is suffused vinous-maroon. They have turquoise- tinged primaries and a green tail with red base of outer-tail feathers. Their pinky-red bill has a yellowish tip. 17. Janet's post was very good and informative, and honest, grey't advice. Here at the forum if a thread is placed by a new or old member, a sugestion will be made to where the proper spot for it might be as Janet did,and as you noticed, Janet still answered the question... If said post was never moved, WE still would have answered the thread to the best of our ability...The reason to put a thread under a certain room to have all threads and post of the same subject in one spot. Thank you Janet, your post was proper and helpful... As for the rest of our reply's, with most of them being "where to post", I hope we haven't lost this person!!! Jayd
  18. Any parrot can be "Conditioned" to poop at any time of the day,the same way they hold it at night, there less active to some extent. You have no reason to apologize. We learn new things every day, that we once took for granted, we have to open our eyes and except that what we once held as truth, might be old news now. Jayd
  19. Thank you so much, what beautiful baby's so sweet. Please tell us all you can about you and your new fids, we have so many people on this forum who love and are interested in Amazons....Thank you Jayd
  20. Welcome, What happened to Emma is something we all fear, it wasn't your fault. As Janet and Judy said, One would be best, If they were siblings, the would have to be separated right from the start, and raised separate! If not siblings, they would still have to be raised separate! The chances of treating them equal, would be slim. Having just one bird, at first, you will remember Emma and compare, but that won't last, your devotion will grow to you new Grey, and you'll still never forget Emma! Please don't try to share yourself with Emma and two new baby's, That's to hard......Jayd Maggie, Spock and the flock

  24. There's a number of way's to handle a screaming Grey, Shouting and getting rid of you companion isn't the way to do it! Some questions? How old? How long have you had him? His age? Male or female? Anything changed or new to his surroundings? Before knowing the answers to these question, you might try: Don't yell at him!, Ignore him when he yells! Tell him 'Talk easy!, Sing to him when he yells! In between screams give him a foot toy! Never acknowledge him when he yells!!! Thanks Jayd, Maggie, Spock and the flock
