One of the things to watch for when you are out on walks are predatory birds. This isn't just the great big eagles or other birds we instantly think of as predators, but ravens, crows, magpies etc. There are a few members who have had their birds out on walks where they've had to return home swiftly due to the circling of crows and ravens above them. Another thing is the public! They think they can just charge into you and stroke your bird - because it's not a dog and it won't bite (yeah, righto). You will get your baby used to different outside noises - but it's best to stay away from very busy areas for your first outings. Hope this helps!

Hi Casey - welcome to the forum. You sound as if you have been researching well - and there's loads of information on here that will help you with Mikey (who incidentally is sooooo sweet)! You might find you have an active grey - I too put my perches low and put a towel in the bottom of the cage - but straight after I turned my back he was hanging upside down at the top of the cage! As Judy says - ask as many questions as you need to - don't be shy and don't think that your question might be "silly" - I can assure you I have probably already asked them!! If your wife is nervous about handling Rocky he will also sense this and knows he will be able to get away with the nips and bites. She will need to overcome this fear if she intends to handle Rocky. It is best if all the people that intend on handling him throughout his life handle him when he is young - it brings him into your flock and shows him his family. Good luck!

If you look at the base of their tail (if your baby allows) you will see new ones ready to pop through. At the moment Harvey has one of his main tail feathers that is clearly coming out and at the base there is a tiny one in the waiting.

Trying to prepare his food this morning (obviously with the aid of Harvey) he developed a new eating experience! So - looks like I have no problem getting the essentials into his diet!!!

Harvey loves broccoli, carrots, apple and peas. He also loves chicken bones (a tip to keep them quiet)!!

Ah, but that isn't the end of the story! The ferrel child (de-haired and moustached, turned into the beautiful computer princess) managed to gather over 5000 followers. At first they just pressed "african grey parrots" into google and "african grey forums.net" is what they found. They then realised that it wasn't just weirdos and fools who joined internet forums (I hope) and felt "right at home". Because of the ferrel child computer princess turned guru they felt they could post their stupid questions and not feel stupid (or is that just me)!!! I think now I shall leave the next episode to another poster - please make this as far out as possible. My disclaimer is that Talon does not have either a moustache or a beard and that wax strips do not come into contact (with her face)!!!! :laugh:

Dave, what you failed to mention were wax strips. The ferrel child had a downy coat and when she discovered man, then man introduced her to wax strips. The wax strips enabled her to get rid of her moustache and her beard. This was very important as her life outside of the home that she had made with the humans would not have been made easy. Luckily for us, this creature developed into a computer princess to serve her kingdom (the world and beyond) and thus enabling lots and lots of birdies to be blessed by the gathering of the knowledge and skills of the "Knights of the Round Table" that she gathered. Now, this is turning into a fairytale, and a fairytale it is - I know for one that my Harvey leads a happy and healthy life due to this god and her band of merry men!!
