I have to watch Harvey with my youngest niece (nearly two). She is absolutely fascinated with Harvey and doesn't understand the "if I poke him, I will get bitten" rule. Therefore, he gets caged when they call. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him (as with any animal and children)! On the other hand, Harvey has started taking a liking to Katie - she's 15 and Harvey loved her at the start - and then bit her. This week he's taken to flying to her at every opportunity and just sitting, looking at her - which she finds unnerving and I remove him! All in all, they've got a mind of their own!! It's how they want it, when they want it and only IF they want it! Great that Sunny is calming down a bit Judy :)

We celebrated nearly two months ago! I think Bernie resurrected this thread after his Moderatorship! ;)

Grey has little nubs at corners of mouth
JillyBeanz replied to a_parrots_uncle's topic in Health Room
Hi and Welcome. Dan's addressed the mouth problem - and Harvey's is the same as Dayo's in the picture that Dan's posted - so there may be a little infection going on at the beak area of your bird. With regards the photos - I found this tutorial extremely helpful when I first started: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-photography-room/89533-how-to-post-picturesphoto-tuturial.html Hope this helps -
This is the only thing that Harvey takes any notice of - new furniture or a new vase or something like that. I can remember reading a thread about this miles before I got Harvey and everyone saying what Janet and Judy are saying about letting the bird watch them move it. I sat and laughed and thought "what a bunch of idiots - that's going a bit far". But, lo and behold - those "idiots" were correct!! Harvey accepts things much better if he watches me unbox and place things - except for the new hoover - he doesn't like that at all!!!

Cement perches and alike are recommended as they aren't uniform and therefore your bird's feet are resting in different places and positions at all times - it's the dowel round rods which can encourage arthritis as their feet adopt the same position all of the time. Java branches and other wooden branches are also good for the activity of their feet. Good luck in finding the perches in Greece - we have another member "SunnyBird" who you could contact - Renate lives in Greece too and could help you with pet stores.

It reminds me of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation! Great rendition of the family Christmas - glad mine was slightly quieter!!

Don't try and video her until she's comfortable taking a shower! You'll have enough on your hands trying to calm her into accepting the shower Let her hang out with you on the shower rail and take in the steam of the shower - then you could invite her nearer to perhaps be "sprinkled" with a bit spray. Talk to her all of the time reassuring her. It can be a long process - it can be quite a quick acceptance - all greys are different. She may not like this and you may have to resort to misting her whilst in her cage! Good luck!

Cocoa gets to go to some wonderful places - he is very lucky! Yet again, some beautiful photos from your area - thanks for sharing them!

Hi and welcome to our family. It's great that you are giving this poor bird a better life than it is used to. The poor thing will think it's in luxury. If it's not been used to toys etc then it probably will be scared and timid. It will take time and patience to get this bird to accept you - as everything will be brand new to it (and you!). Time is of the essence - patience is of the immediate order. I'm not sure about the cage - I've had Harvey since he was a baby - but there are many members who have been in your situation that will be only too willing to help.

There is an Amazon which escaped from its owners quite near me about two years ago now. There have been many sightings of it over the past two years in the park near where it went missing - but evades capture every time, and is indeed not tame anymore. It has survived the Northern winters (normally up to -5 or -6 each year) for the past two years. I do feel terribly sorry for you - and I am so glad that you haven't given up hope. The fact that you have had no sightings since the end of November may mean that he's just "gone to ground" and is keeping warm - venturing out only when weather allows. I hope that you do find him soon though and that he returns to meet his new friend

Oh Bernie - how did I miss that photo! Someone pass me the touch paper.......

You know Renate - I was wondering!!! I thought Sunny Bird had far too many posts not for me to recognise! What's wrong with Happy in Greece? I would be!!!

Hi Shaun - Welcome to our Family. Do you already have a bird or are you researching? Either way, you will find all of the information you need to enable you to give your bird a long and happy life, if you already have one, or will help you make the choice if you don't! Any questions, ask away - there's always someone around 24/7 to answer any question you may have

I have never seen this video Sunnybird - thank you so much for sharing with us! Karma to you for probably the most factual thing I have seen lately xx
-
At least you've managed tons and tons of videos! The reason nobody has ever seen the "real" Harvey is because he feels that the video camera is his new love interest! Honestly - he drops his wings, pants and then pounces! I've had to remove it from his vicinity!!! I just love it when Emma says "hi pookie" - it's just too cute!
-
Yip! The clanger is the first to go every single time. There could be a mixture of different textures and tastes on the new toy - but the clanger gets ripped out first! I'm sure this is more interesting to Harvey than the actual noise the bell makes!!
-
95 - surely you mean 2005 you dopey so and so - she's only 4!

After the conversation we've had today pbullet - please don't try this yourself again - with any tool. You have been terribly lucky that after 2½ hours of bleeding from your bird that he is alive. Get some cement perches, as we advised, or get a vet to cut his nails. You have been VERY lucky this time - but perhaps not next time

Greys are so wary of new things and it could take some time before Stazel accepts any new toys. You really should have more than one toy in her cage though - four or five which are rotated regularly are suggested. Some greys aren't scaredy cats - I have one of them - but others are not so accepting of new situations. She may come around, she may not. The moving outside the cage is absolutely normal - Harvey uses his as a climbing frame too - but do you have a T stand or other playstand that Stazel can move too - Harvey's is equipped with toys on there too and he thoroughly enjoys ripping things to shreds on there.

Considering Getting a Grey...please help
JillyBeanz replied to Redderick77's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Redderick - welcome to our family. As mentioned, as long as there are lots of stimulating things to do for this grey in his/her cage then you are able to give the "out of cage time" that is needed (every day) then this shouldn't be a problem. This bird obviously needs a good home, and if a little length of time on their own is all they need to worry about - then I'm sure you will do a fine job. There's loads of interesting information and help on how to keep your bird stimulated in order that they don't cause themselves damage - and everyone here is available to answer any questions you may have. Keep us updated! -
How great, and so deserving! Well done Jay & Maggie!! You know how much I enjoy your posts about all your babies. I couldn't think of anyone more deserving. Jill xx
-
Oh what a fab idea - they are such lovely birds that they deserve a special room. Looking forward to seeing loads of pictures! Great idea xx

You didn't comment on "sewing thread"! Good play with words I thought!!!
-
How lucky are you! I'm just so jealous that you can use your bird carrier outside as you're in Greece!! It's zero degrees here in the UK!!! Hope you had a good day!

OMG! Dan asked you to come up with a "man game" and you develop a sewing thread! Is the seatbelt from your mother in law's current car?
