  1. Ooh - thanks for that Lyn - that nearly looks within my capabilities too!!
  2. Oooh - what a great question Dave - karma for a great thread!! Like the others it's difficult to work out! Comparisons on here have to be taken into consideration too - Jane lives in Sweden - so everything is so expensive in comparison to the UK (poor you Jane!!!) Initially I was spending £20 a week on toys for Harvey - that's passed, thank goodness!! I think that food wise it's probably less than £5 a week (jeez, I sound stingy)!! The only thing I specially buy for Harvey is the mixed veg he has (frozen) and it's only 99p a bag! This lasts a good couple of weeks! I buy his pellets in 20Kg bags - so this lasts forever and he gets all of the other goodies I'm preparing for the family - so the extra I'm feeding him would be wasted otherwise. His supplements are bought every six months or so - so about 10p a week! Now - the REAL cost of owning a grey here in the UK is the heat needed to keep them warm! It's advised that they don't get colder than 20C here in the UK - well, our houses aren't even 20C in the height of summer!! My heating has been on constantly since the start of December - I'm dreading my quarterly fuel bill. So, in conclusion - I don't think it is too expensive to feed one - just everything else that you need too!!!<br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/28 20:02
  3. Hi Goerge and Welcome! Our second new South African of the day ~ I've just read a post from somebody in Joburg! You'll find lots of interesting information, as Jess says and there's always people around to help you. Tell us a little more about yourself and your bird

  7. That's such fantastic news Caroline!!! I can't wait to watch him grow and flourish under your care. He's a lucky little chappie (make sure you tell him that)!! Fab news
  8. Hi Ondrejd ~ welcome to our family. You will find all of the information you need here - and if not, please just ask. You seem to be having problems with your photos - I found this very helpful when I was new: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-photography-room/89533-how-to-post-picturesphoto-tuturial.html Can't wait to see the pictures of Woody x
  9. Ah - my cockatiel loved his mirror too (although his wasn't so elaborate!!!). The picture is lovely - reminds me how small my little cockatiel was. Thanks for this - it's great.
  10. She is beautiful! What a little sweetie. She's definitely "pulling that pose". Thanks for sharing this - it's lovely
  11. Hi Hannibal, welcome to our family. Congratulations on your new baby - it's such a great time when they are so young and so adaptable. She has been removed from what she knows - she will be scared and unsure of the situations you are placing her in. When she bites you, don't react - just firmly tell her "no bite" or ask "what do you want to bite me for". You'll learn not to shout "ouch", because when you do she will do it even more - they love noise and think if you're shouting out you are enjoying it! You will overcome this, and she will stop for a while - but we all receive a sharp, firm dig from time to time. You'll find out what a REAL bite is when you bleed!!! There are tons of threads to help you with your grey - or if there is anything specific - just ask away! Why not go and introduce yourself in our Welcome Room and tell us a bit more about yourself - and any pictures are certainly appreciated
  12. How proud am I!!! Today is my colleague's 60th Birthday. I bought the present, I decorated the room and I BOUGHT THE CAKES! I sat, drank my coffee - BUT HAD NO CAKE!!! I've just had a plum!! As for the sun Janet - here in the UK I think we've forgotten what that is - could you catch a ray or two and post them over?
  13. Ha Ha Ha! Mint! Loved it!!!
  14. We did give Blue a mention at the very start - and it was by association (you had half ownership to the prize!) Yip! Defintely ~ even though a "silent" forum member - seems Bernard is winning!! I love the pictures of Blue too - he doesn't age at all  Definitely going to be a tough one to beat here!!!
  15. Hi Pat and welcome to our family. As Martin says - you will learn everything you need to know here. There is tons and tons and tons of information to help you with Frosty (and boy will you need it)!!! Anything you don't find - just ask - there's always someone here to help.
  16. Hi Buffy & Echo ~ Welcome to our family. I agree that this is the best forum on the net (and hence the fact they are lucky enough to have my attendance)!!! I too joined a plethora of forums before here and found these guys the bestest in the world!!! So helpful and kind and you're always made to feel welcome. I too had never owned a grey and seem to have had the same experience as you with birds, and I was truly amazed too at the difference compared to the cockatiel I had. Looking forward to hearing more about you both
  17. Hey Jan - I hope I'm still fit enough to be out and about in my 100th year! Good on your mother!! That's a fab excuse for missing a day!!! I've been thinking about this thread and laughing to myself - you lot are a bunch of people I've never met and I find more support for this than paying a fiver a week at Slimming World or Weight Watchers!!! Keep up the good work everyone xxx
  18. Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle. The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time. The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return. Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, "The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me." The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, "I love liver and cheese." "Oh, how childish," said the Poodle. "That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever." She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says "How well can you do?" "Um. I HATE liver and cheese," blurts the Golden Retriever. "My, my," said the Poodle. "I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence." She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, "How about you, little guy?" The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua. He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says.... Liver alone. Cheese mine.
  19. Engrossed! I sat for the whole 9 minutes and 15 seconds enthralled by the collation of such fantastic photos (and the soundtrack too, quite stunning)! This had everything - parrots in flight (stunning), birds of prey (fantastic), lovely babies (cutie pies) and then the pride on the owner's faces. Rounded off by the fantastic quote: Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened ~ Anatole France. Superb! Thanks for this Dan x
  20. Don't worry - there's plenty more fish in the sea, pebbles on the beach, pearls in an oyster, grass on the field........
  21. Kevin wrote: That's fine Kevin - we know! They are such a joy and he's showing you what a great companion they are. Their minds are second to none. I'd only had Harvey a few weeks when he learned how to undo the catch on his cage - certainly now it is locked!!! Great to hear you and he are getting on so well <br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/27 19:24
  22. What a great list Jill - I've never tried sprouting because I can kill cacti! I managed to grow cress with the kids on cotton wool!!! How exciting - I'm going to try and give it a go over the weekend - which is the easiest for beginners?
  23. Mmm, I fold! I can't be bothered with one - let alone two!!!
  24. Hi Pattertwig, welcome to our family. I joined a load of forums before I found these guys and unfortunately for them I sacked the others and they were stuck with me! Plenty of other forums state they are "the best" - they're not! As Dave says - list all your questions - there's always someone around who will help - and as this is a 24 hour, multi-national forum you're not far away from an answer. I look forward to hearing more about you
