I'm really pleased you are taking him to the vet as I just read your other post regarding the washing machine. Please do take him out of there no only for health reasons but social ones too. Eating wise, when we first got our grey we were told not to feed him by hand too often as it becomes how they expect to receive their food. Please try reducing this in a gradual way and providing he is in good health he will take food from wherever when hungry. As I said, try not to worry.

I agree that detergents and especially fabric softener sheets would not be a good idea to have around your bird.

Hi Jacky, as has already been suggested it may be a good idea to have him checked-out. Try not to worry too much your baby is very young. My baby used to spend virtually all his time at the bottom of his cage - even sleeping there and has only recently stopped doing this (he is now 9 months old) but still occasionally explores there. If I were you I'd offer as much variety of foods as possible including veggies, fruits, pellets and seeds, he will eat whatever takes his fancy. No bird in good health will starve himself. Try reducing the amount of food offered by hand and gradually phase this out. It sounds to me like he is only semi-weaned. Have you had him long? Is he is still getting used to a new environment?

Yes he is very light, though it could be the camera. It's funny how they are all so different. I often wonder if I'd recognise my grey in a line-up of say 100 CAGs lol. Love the paper bag shot B)

Beau is now almost 9 months old and I have noticed he is losing many more of the white downy feathers as has been usual since we had him. He doesn't seem to be losing any tail or flight feathers as yet which brings me to the question; is he starting his first moult?

It seems we are all pretty scrupulous with our fids' cages. Believe me some people DO NOT BOTHER. I go to people's houses to do their hair and one in particular springs to mind, my guess in that house it's a twice a year ritual, what's more the cage was in the kitchen and I very much doubt it ever left it's cage. Needless to say I no longer go there.

OMG I'm so sorry. I'd never want to feel the way you do. You have my sympathy. I'm sure your little guy loved you as much as you loved him. xx

Oops sorry, I use Johnsons spray on disinfectant for birds (from the pet shop) for direct cleaning but for perches etc. I wash in a mild wash-up liquid solution.

Hi Janet, I clean Beau's papers every day and Argyle's ever other day (he's smaller and his cage is wider) the perches and cages are cleaned as necessary, this varies greatly but I find I'm having to wash the grate at the bottom more often lately - about twice weekly.

Welcome to the forum harmar. Yes I've also heard it said that TAGs are less highly strung than CAGs, I wouldn't know myself as I've never owned a TAG but my CAG is certainly easily spooked. May I suggest the book "Parrots For Dummies", apparently this book is the best book on the market for beginners and one member on here said "it's like all the parrot books rolled into one" it is inexpensive too and can be found on the Amazon site. Don't forget to read "foods that can be dangerous to your grey" and also "teflon poisoning" on this site. There are many hidden dangers in your home which can potentially be lethal to a parrot ie. air fresheners, hairsprays, self-cleaning ovens (when the cleaning option is being used) many cleaning products and so on. I don't mean to scare you and if you know what things to avoid it does become second nature after a while. Look forward to your postings

Poor Rishi, he really was a sick bird. Looks like your quick actions were just in the nick of time. He does look a little deshevilled but it's only cosmetic as he does seem to be on the mend now. He needs building up to full strength and you are the best people for the task. Go Rishi go!
