  2. Here is my feathered smarty pants Emma. She's very strong willed as you can see. Hope you enjoy.
  3. I think that if your mash is a complete and varied and she is eating it very well, then I would not worry that she is less interested in the pellets. I always feed my mash first and foremost, then vegetables, seeds, fruits, pellets, nuts. All in that order. Thankfully I don't have picky eaters.<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/09/18 03:04

  5. Oooff!! Sorry to hear that you are going through this rough time. I hope it is very temporary.
  6. The sauce did not taste any different nor did I tell anyone about my secret.
  7. Here's a good thread about the above posted on another forum. I have used this thread as a reference for my own parrot mash which my parrots both ENJOY, Sprouting and making your own parrot mash can seem a little daunting in the beginning. You can modify the process and recipe by using ingredients of your preference. Enjoy.{Feel-good-00020114} http://talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=28282<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/09/14 02:39
  8. They are smart by nature. They will figure it out on their own eventually!
  9. We don't use any type of sandy perch in this home. If you do use the sandy perch just make sure that they aren't the highest ones in the cage.
  10. What a great looking Yoshi! She is princess of the roost!
  11. I'm not certain whether it is toxic but I'd avoid it if possible if you aren't certain about what types of dyes and inks they use.
  12. Congrats on your new job. Even if Indy does not like your fiancé too much.. at least he will be familiar with him.
  13. Today I was slaving over my spaghetti sauce which takes hours to prepare. Of course as usual I was multi-tasking and trying to resolve toO many matters at the same time. I noticed that one of my parrot bowls was running out of pellets so I took the bowl to the kitchen to refill it. In the midst of all this.. the phone rang, I answered it and got into a discussion with my fiancé and being so distracted, I ended up pouring one tablespoon of roudybush pellets in to my spaghetti sauce that had been simmering so beautifully!! :side:  My jaw dropped as I saw the roudybush pellets hit the spaghetti sauce.<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/09/13 21:18
  14. If they like it.. it sounds pretty healthy!!
  15. Some parrots do Enjoy making soup out of their pellets. In cases like this don't forget to change the water often because bacteria tends to set in quickly.. especially on hot days.
  16. This is merely my opionion but I don't think that "sunflower seeds" or any kind of food is the problem in this matter. One thing that I have learned from being a parrot owner is that changes often must be done in babysteps. Some parrots "graduate or move on faster" and some don't as in the case of your Leia. In captivity, the parrot owner plays an important role in nurturing the baby parrot through this process to help make it as seamless and stressfree as possible. Weaning is an EXTREMELY stressful time for all parrots. It affects them physically, psychologically and most of all emotionallly. I understand that your parrots is still very young. My parrot weaned at 23 months old. When she decided that she was done then she was done. When she was 10 weeks old, a bowl of seed mix that included sunflower seeds was put in her little cage everyday along with her bowl of pellets. From the time that she was 8 weeks old she always had hard foods like her pellets and vegetables, to play, sample and explore with. She eventually refused her formula on her own. When she came home to live with me I allowed her to eat autonomously for at least 5 months before I made the decision to remove or decrease food that she was accustomed or attached to. Regarding fatty liver disease, if your parrot does not already have a pre-existing condition.. I doubt that she will develop it in this short period of time. Fatty liver disease takes many years to develop and is often a result of many years of very bad dietary habits. I think the priority right now would be to ensure that your parrot is confident, and stressfree. Stress affects the immune system and makes her more susceptible to illnesses and diseases. I am not advocating that you give her a 100% sunflower diet. I am simply saying to start from scratch and reduce the sunflower seed mix in weekly intervals rather than remove them cold turkey. Regarding sunflower seeds, I give them raw as well as sprouted to my parrots. Sprouting the seed converts it into a different type of "live" food and is as nutritious as well. I also wanted to add that both of my parrots are flighted and pretty active even if only indoors. Their food bowls are located in their cages and they do not spend alot of time in their cages where their food is located. 17. Don't know how I missed this post. This is truly exciting. Thanks for sharing and congrats.
  18. I give a sprinkle of sunflower seeds every week to my parrots. They really enjoy it and are fine when it isn't around. Here's an article with some additional info. http://www.africangreys.com/articles/nutrition/sunflower.htm
  19. Well if you decide to go that route I'd like to suggest having a scale to weigh your parrot. It's important that she not lose too much weight, then you'll have other problems. Good luck. I hope you find a way that works for the both of you. Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/09/12 22:02<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2009/09/12 22:02

  21. The last few weeks Emma has started to mix things up with the sentences that she already knows. I am utterly impressed, amazed and so proud. Example - Before she merely used to say "I love you." Today on her own she said: I love your shoulder. I love corn. I love apple. Before she used to only say " What a great kiss!" This week she asked " Want some water?" when I replied no, she said " Want a great kiss?":woohoo: I think that she really understands the meaning of these sentences and never imagined that she would start being creative with her sentences.
