I am disgusted with what you mentioned about the store - I work in an exotic pet store and we spend hours upon hours every single day without fail keeping everything as spotless as possible. Before a new bird is ever moved to a cage another bird has been in it gets sanitized a number of times and is done a few days in advance. As far as toys on the bottom go Darwin LOVES the bottom of her cage. She has a basket with foot toys down there and I'll often fill a box or paper bag with shredded paper and a few nuts for foraging. I think it simulates their natural environment, as they sometimes will forage on the ground for food. I would say go for putting some toys on the bottom - Yoshi might like it!

I am just bursting with excitement and happiness for these two! They are excellent parents and are doing a phenomenal job! I can't wait for the rest to hatch!
-
Earl is just adorable, and so curious! Have fun with him and let us know how everything is going!

Oh Caitlin I know how you feel with the stress of school and work and it definitely makes things interesting. You might be right about his aggressive behaviour being due partially to Ecko molting. Darwin began her first molt at about 8 months too and is still going through that. The feathers that come in are just beautiful though. Hang in there Caitlin.

He/she is beautiful indeed and Darwin used to be a boy too - and I never really wanted her tested - but the vet told me by accident! Oh well! She's still Darwin, and sometimes Darwinnie lol. Let us know if you get Darius tested!

Oh Jill. Impulse buying is SUCH a problem for me! Honestly, I'm working while being in school for the purpose of making money for school! But I work at a breeders! How does that help? It doesn't! I come home with something new for either Darwin, Sprite or Luna at least twice a week. It's brutal but I cannot help myself! At least I can say that as long as I work there, Darwin will never get bored!

I agree, you and your wife are incredible and that is such an inspirational story. I am keeping you and Rishi in my thoughts, I hope he has a full recovery.

See those new dark feathers coming in? She looks patterned right now lol but is well on her way to being covered in adult feathers!

Hello again everyone. I've got a little update on Darwin here and I'll try not to make it too long! I know I tend to get mushy and say that I love her so much and I can't imagine life without her, but honestly - I have never loved a pet this much and have never felt such a connection to an animal. I adore all my pets but Darwin is more like a child to me and I would do anything for her. Anyway, on to the update! She is almost 10 months old now and I can't believe how time has flown. She is growing up into a very sweet, loving and intelligent Timneh and get more independent and confident each day. Since I've been bringing her to work and she's gotten lots of attention from many, many different bird-lovers, she is an absolute socialite and loves meeting new people. My boss has taught her to shake hands before stepping up onto someone and she does this every time - it's very funny. She can now say "HI! How are you?", "Hello Darwin" and "Wookywooky". She can also make a duck's quack and a monkey noise, usually on cue. She mimics the phone and microwave beeps among many other sound effects - she seems to enjoy making up whistles and mimicking sounds more than saying words! She'll step up onto anyone but loves my Mom and me the best. We're the only ones who can pet her, and I can touch her anywhere without so much as a peep. She loves head scratches and foraging and banging bells. She seems happy and is healthy - always making noises, swinging upside down, and her favourite thing about the morning is getting her veggies! She also comes into the shower daily and lets me drench her whenever I want (usually 3x/week). She also adores taking baths on the kitchen table in a baking dish, and I have a video of this - it's hilarious - and will try to share it soon! Anyway, I'll stop talking now and will get on with the photos!

LOL Judy the funny thing is I have heard that noise thousands of times just never so quietly! Also I've been going to bed very early lately and perhaps she does it when shes about to go to sleep and I've always missed it! Way to not make that connection eh lol. Thanks again Judy

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well! I have sort of a bizarre question. Darwin's cage is in my room, and she gets put to sleep usually around 8-8:30. She always goes to sleep like an angel and I never have trouble putting her to bed. I usually go to bed around 9:30-11, depending on the day. She always wakes up when I come into the room and does a small squak, her way of saying hello. I tell her to go back to sleep and she quiets down. However, the past 3-4 days she has been making a very strange sound after this happens. I lie down to go to sleep, Darwin will be totally quiet and then about a minute later I'll hear a very faint "ticktick...tickticktick....ticktickticktick...." a minute will go by and she'll repeat the sound. It almost sounds like its her beak rubbing together or something. The first time she did it I got paranoid and turned the light on, but everything was fine..and she's been doing it a few times each night over the past few days. It's probably just me being totally paranoid but I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard their Grey do this? Thanks! (And I'm in the middle of taking new pictures of her and Luna for updates! Will be up soon!)

That's very exciting! Do you have a cage and toys? I hope you find your little one, and I completely agree with what Dan said! I've seen quite a few people come in to see Grey's at my work and the happiest, healthiest birds are always the ones that choose you
-
I've never flown with Darwin and completely agree with you - I would never allow her to be put in a cargo hold - specifically after that link you shared. How completely awful, a Grey froze to death because someone didn't do their job. Disgusting. I hope you can find an airline that allows your Grey in the cabin with you, and sorry I couldn't have been more help. Do let us know what you find.

Oh Emma is such a sweetie I just love her. She has such a girly voice and is SO SMART! Are you teaching her to count to ten? That was very impressive. And they are persistent, aren't they?
-
I'm also a Grey! How funny. Great link!
-
LOL what a character Misty is, that's too funny. Darwin prefers to sleep on her favourite foraging toy  Its a square horizontal ferris wheel with 4 flaps that all open different ways. Sometimes she decides she wants to be facing the other way so she'll grab onto the cage bars and swing the wheel around, at which point she'll curl up and fall asleep.
-
Such a beautiful and sweet grey you have! Darwin is the same way with my face - she loves to beak my face and preen my eyelashes. She too has never even nipped me, always so gentle with her beak.
-
Okay here's a question, what exactly are the symptoms of such sexual behaviour?
-
I am totally hooked on Camilla and Gonzo - I've been streaming the webcam all day! Sooo excited.

Hello scar, please also read all the the "pinned" topics in The Nursery room as well as the Grey Lounge once you've read what the bird needs to be fed. I also would like some more information about the bird, is it a Congo or a Timneh, male or female, what's his/her name? IS he/she weaned? Honestly I'm a tad concerned considering you're not sure what to feed him/her.... Please keep us posted, and welcome.

I think Ana and Darwin would be greyt friends! Not only do I have the same cage for her - she has the same foraging wheel, and boy does she love it! They should hang out
