  1. I've heard about that book coming out and now I'm going to have to read it. Thanks for the heads up and a good review. I think it's so sad that they found him suddenly dead. Makes me want to cry!
  2. BaxtersMom wrote: Same in our house...but POLAND! Our Christmas Eve is a way bigger deal than Christmas day. On Christmas Eve we have all the relatives over, have a huge dinner and party, then open up gifts, relax, and head to midnight mass. On Christmas day we exchange gifts with our parents, relax, and eat left overs! lol
  3. Karma back at you for being the only one to answer my question! lol Thank you kindly for easing my worries! Since we've gotten her, we've been cooking in cast iron and enamel pans and everything has been A O.K until I freaked out about these sternos.
  4. Nice site, thanks! I REALLY like the name Kya and how you're looking at the meaning of the names. It's really unique and beautiful. I'm definitely going to use that site to name a future bird.
  5. Sounds bad, but I've never payed too much attention to it! I'll have to watch her more closely, but by looking at my profile pic, I'm guessing left footed lol. I'll get back to ya on that one!
  6. Has anyone ever used sterno fuels? They're the things that burn underneath an aluminum pan to keep the food warm. My mom bought some today for our family Christmas Eve party tomorrow and now I'm worried! It's actually a gel and the label says they're 2 hour burning ethanol cans. Ethanol is strong (&$Y&$ and, basically, pure alcohol. Supposedly burns clean, but not sure if it's "clean" enough for parrots! What am I going to do with Kenzie?!?! The trays will be in the basement and I could put her on the 3rd floor with the window slightly venting the room, but even with that I would be worried sick! I'm trying to think of other options. I can't take her to my one neighbor's house because they don't live there anymore. Our other neighbor is old, has a cat, and smokes like a chimney. My grandma's house could work. But her house smells like nicotine even when she's not there! My aunt's house has a HUGE black lab, and 2 cats. I don't know what to do and I'm freaking out! Please help! Anyone?!?!
  7. That was cute and I told my mom that story! Personally I just answer the phone in Polish and pretend that I don't speak English and then they hang up pretty quickly!
  8. I balanced out the "karma stealer" and just bumped you back up! lol Our grey isn't clipped, but she never learned to fly well, so she still slowly falls to the ground and it's scary because I don't want her to get hurt. But then if we give her flight lessons, than she can get into more mischief in the house...so there is always a positive and negative side to everything.
  9. Awwwweee! That is so cute! She looks like she's doing the thing "If I can't see it, it can't see me!" hahaha
  10. This is our first holiday with McKenzie, and we are having about 20 relatives over...so we shall see how people react to her. My mom does the same thing that you're describing though. She wants McKenzie to step-up and McKenzie doesn't want to and is walking away. Mom continues to try to get her to step-up and I tell her to leave her alone. Kenzie then bites her and she yells, "No bite! You be a good girl!" Told ya so!
  11. hahahha that's cute! When we first got our grey, she wouldn't talk much if we were standing near her or the cage, but now that she is settling in, she is talking in front of all of us. I don't think we've heard anything as funny as what you're describing, though!
  12. Thanks Dave and you too! However, I believe New Year's resolutions are a bunch of crock. I never make them.
  13. Welcome! How old is your grey? Is it a CAG or TAG? Male or female? Look forward to hearing more about your flock!
  14. Congrats! Keep us updated when the new addition arrives!
  15. Those are adorable! Is that the first time the cat went into the cage? lol
  16. Clever idea and I love my Starbucks! I just thought of something that could make that chew toy a little more interesting, hopefully. What about covering the opening of the cup with some newspaper? You could put random nuts/treats in like 3 of them...and the bird will have to forage through all the cups in order to find the ones with the treats?? I don't know. It's just an idea, not sure if it'd work any. Thanks for sharing! We're working on a homemade play stand w/ PVC pipes and will definitely post the pics when we're done.
  17. hahahaha that is so adorable!!! They're so silly sometimes! Kenzie is still so new and not completely settled in yet, but everyday she amazes us! We shall see if she learns to speak in context, hopefully!
  18. danmcq is right. Paint isn't OK because with the parrot using its beak to move along the bars, it will chip off that toxic paint and could potentially swallow it.
  19. Gosh. Sorry about not reading your blog before I posted, didn't know that it would upset you that much!<br><br>Post edited by: Goralka08, at: 2008/12/21 15:44
  20. shanlung wrote: First, well when you write "a free flying Congo African Grey" I immediately think of flying w/o harness because that is EXACTLY what free flying means! Second, not every one has time to click on the links you've provided and to read about all the training you have done with your parrot! Sorry that I didn't read more into it.
  21. Cool pics, Erika! I forgot to take some on our side of town. I'm really surprised that your city doesn't plow side streets!!! I like in a small town, same county, and ALL of our roads are plowed nicely.
  22. McKenzie's scale arrived yesterday so her first weigh in was this morning! The parrot rescue organization said to weigh her before she eats and drinks in the morning. She is a TAG, aged 10-15 years, and weighed in at 311 grams.
  23. Hi! I believe our TAG, MacKenzie, has a cage with the dimensions of 36x24. Above are some pics of it. What's nice about our cage is that there is even a pull out tray for the top play stand (see above picture) for easy clean-up.
  24. That was beautiful! When I look at our newly adopted TAG, McKenzie, I wonder how she fell through the cracks, and what the circumstances were for her to end up in a parrot adoption program. From looking at her beautiful feathers, and listening to her speech, you can tell she was one of the lucky ones. Thanks for posting.
