  1. I don't think it's fair for any bird to be disposable. When you buy or adopt ANY ANIMAL, it should be for LIFE. They are a huge responsibility, but they deserve not being tossed from home to home! Sorry if I offend you, but this angers me. Did you seriously expect your life to be EXACTLY the same as when you purchased your grey? I wouldn't think so because life is constantly throwing curve balls and new scenarios that we have to deal with. Did you not want children? Did you not think you would ever have one some day? These are things to think about BEFORE purchasing any animal. You are the only flock that it knows since you've had it since he/she was born! How sad it would be just to get rid of him/her. It is very emotionally hard for any animal to have to go through this. I think you should reconsider. It will be hard at first, but if you stick to a routine schedule, then there will be plenty of time and always enough love for your new child and bird. BTW, congrats on your precious bundle and I hope everything works out for the best! Keep up updated. I know this forum has many members who have gone through what you're facing. Try talking to others who've experienced this challenging experience, to get their ideas and advice. We're all here for you! Wishing all the best.

Lately I haven't had the time because I had a ton to do around the house to get ready for a party that we were having here. Now that it's over...I'm going to take a look at what work you've done with your birds. So thanks for providing the links so I can bookmark them. I think the harness is wonderful and it definitely enhances their lives by getting some beautiful fresh air and some fly time! I really hope that one day I can get Kenzie in a flight harness because I would love to take her out on a nice day.

I had to get my little "stumpy" canary a new cage since he can fly a little better now due to some good TLC, baths, and a good diet.
  4. Our grey only throws the fruits or veggies that she doesn't like. But when she wants our attention, she does throw objects across the room and it's LOUD! lol We can see her cage from where she sits and we just chuckle to ourselves and ignore it. We don't want to go over to the cage when that behavior occurs because then she'll know that her tactics are working!
  5. Sitting here pouting because my mom has gotten me sick. I'm rarely sick. My tonsils are out and I have a sore throat, go figure! Hopefully it only lasts a few days. The worst part is the stuffy nose interring with breathing and SLEEPING! Drinking some hot tea right now. Maybe it will turn into a spiked tea with some added Alkaseltzer cold & sinus. Kenzie is happily playing across the room and keeping my spirits up!
  6. I've read that mushrooms shouldn't be in their diets as they cause digestion problems and possibly vomiting and liver failure.
  7. Beautiful birds, Dave! Plus, great progress! I've been falling in love with Quakers and hope to get one when I get my own place.
  8. Very cute! We're definitely going to have to get Kenzie some. The adoption place sent her home with one big one, but she definitely needs more!
  9. Our grey is just outside the living room, too, as we were told that she should be able to see us interacting daily to stimulate her mind. Could you imagine if it sat in a quiet room by itself and had to entertain itself all day? Ours is very curious as to what we're doing. Kenzie is rarely loud. If she is, it's just for a few hyper minutes. It's funny and we just laugh at her.

IMHO, the old school aluminum bands should definitely be removed because besides getting caught on something, they are easily crushed. The newer stainless steel ones won't crush, but they can still pose a danger with getting caught on things.

  12. Pixels shouldn't matter. My icon picture was taken at 10.1 mp, as well as all the pics I post on here. You probably just need to resize it.
  13. Sorry we can't see the pics! What server did you use? I can try to guide you through it if you send me your contact info.
  14. That's too cute! My grey is so new that she is skiddish if anything moves too suddenly or drops. She even jumps when the lights get turned on! So she isn't fond of the dogs right now. They don't really go near each other.
  15. judygram wrote: Same here. Our rescue is giving us Kenzie's leg band, we don't need it, but I guess it's a piece of her history so we'll kept it!
  16. Congrats and welcome! I know how excited you are because we just got our girl Dec. 7th! Let us know how everything goes. All the best!
  17. That's a great idea! Now we need to get a lil' bucket for miscellaneous toys. How did you hang the bucket? Did you use the stainless steal chain from another toy? Rope? The only thing that worries me, is if and when she drops them, they might fall through the bottom grate and get pooped on. Do you just throw out anything that falls or do you wash them off and stick them back in the bucket? Thanks for all the ideas!
  18. Hi! Our grey originally had her leg band on for 10-15 years. When she was put in the parrot rescue/adoption place...they had her band removed at her first vet check-up. Probably removed as a precaution against injury, I guess. I have actually read about a bird getting its leg band caught in the clasp of a toy while the owner was away and the bird actually chewed 3 of its toes off to try to get loose.
  19. Welcome! I hope you will enjoy this great site as much as I do! There is a lot of great info here. How about posting a picture of your flock??
  20. Merry Christmas to you and your flock!
  21. Wow! That's awesome! What a lucky bird you have! Great job on that play stand.
  22. My favorite is when Kenzie laughs hysterically, by herself, for a good 15-20 minutes straight!! The other day we were in the basement cleaning up for the Christmas party, and she still had us laughing at her silly personality! Then she says "You're a crazy bird!" and continues to laugh! I'm definitely going to record this one day and post it on youtube!
  23. Very cute pics and thanks for sharing!
  24. Glad to hear that he is doing so well! Thank goodness that the owner realized that the bird would be much happier in your home.
