  1. Last week while hiking I met a lady hiker. On seeing Cocoa on my shoulder, she told me that I should free Cocoa. She said that in a very serious tone. I ignored her. She repeated the sentence again and followed by saying that Cocoa belongs to the jungle and she should be freed. I replied back in a not so friendly tone that Cocoa was not wild caught. She was hand raised and would not survive in the wild and she would die. "If you think that way", she said and walked away. What a moron!
  2. Sometimes she could do that for more than 5 minutes.
  3. Glad to hear you're thinking for the benefit of Diego. Hope your plan works. : )
  4. For those who knew that Cocoa had stopped flying because of her play gym was repainted with different colors. After weeks of retraining, she has finally accepted the new colors. Here she flies again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyIKbySqMXI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtR36CfPBCM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEfQAH7HBg4
  5. Mine is with the harness. With the harness she could feel the freedom. My Grey doesn't like to be in the cage even it is placed outside the house.
  6. My Grey has traveled with me to out of state trip thrice, overnite at my mom in law's house. The only problem was she wouldn't want to eat if caged. She wanted to be out of cage and liked to play on the window grille. Being at a new place, she was quiet and would not fly. If going to a place where I need to put up a nite and the house was not convenient to have all the windows and doors shut, I would not go. My wife would go without me and the fids. When I went to my parents' house, I would have my Grey harnessed in the house. My Grey would stay with me all the time. My grey travels a lot in the car. I won't cage her on short distance trip (1 or 2km). She likes to perch on the head rest. She has no problem wearing the harness in the car. Usually I put her on the steering wheel to put the harness on. She won't fly out of the car when the door is open.
  7. I have been taking my Grey outdoor almost everyday since the day we adopted her. She has grown used to what is outside of the house. Even with the door open, she has no desire to fly out. What attracted her to fly to the door is the netting I installed over the door. My entrance door is a metal grilled sliding door which is installed in front of the glass sliding door. I have a curtain installed and my 12 years old daughter is trained to go in and out of the house with cautious. We have been doing that for the past 2 years. Wing clipping is never on my mind even though my flighted grey at times gives me a lot of headaches.
  8. Some people got upset over this video. This is meant to be a joke. Cocoa was never hurt in the "strangulation." I posted on forums where people know Cocoa and I. Why don't they have sense of humor? Most enjoyed the joke even though they found the title is offending. I was criticized for abusing Cocoa. Only morons would use my joke to kill their parrots.
  9. I am sorry if I offended anyone with the title. As usual what I meant was a joke.
  10. We were meeting up with a budgie breeder at this park this morning. I ordered 2 pairs of budgies for breeding purpose. While waiting, we did some photo sessions and recall trainings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Hy4juggETo
  11. This is the best Grey story I ever read. I am glad Isaac has a good dad like you. : ) My friend punished his escaped Cockatoo by clipping his wings. His Grey was punished too because his Too flew away.
  12. Aug 3rd. Recent pics.
  13. Congratulations! What a wonderful reunion. I am so happy for both of you. Please don't punish your baby by clipping his wings. : )
  14. I hope there will be a day Cocoa will be like your friend's grey. At this moment she gets spooked by the noise at construction site. I had to be careful when we walked past houses that were doing renovation.
  15. I am training my Grey not to fly out of the house when the door is open. I am not sure if my method is correct or not. I will harness her for this training. A flightline of 25-30ft is attached to the harness and is tied to the sofa. I will leave the door open for 30 mins to an hour. I will do this 2-3X a week. So far she hasn't flown out of the house if none of us goes out. If one of us went out she would fly to our shoulder to follow us. The places she would fly to while she was outside were the clothes rack and on our car. If we stayed indoor, she would not fly out. My purpose of this training is to make her get used to seeing an open door without having the desire to fly out. We never know that one day we might accidentally leave the door open. In one of this training, Cocoa was on the fridge in the kitchen and I had to go out of the house. On seeing me walking out of the house, she flew out trying to follow me but I was already in the street. She landed on the clothes rack. She did not follow me further. The line was long enough for her to fly to the gate but she stayed back. I bird sit for a guy recently and he wasn't sure whether to keep his CAG flighted or not. He was afraid that his Grey would fly away if not clipped. So I showed him what Cocoa could do. I had the door open and placed Cocoa's stand right in front of the door. Cocoa just stood still on his stand. Of course, she was harnessed.
  16. FAREWELL LATTE, that's his name. Finally, Latte's dad came to pick him up. I gave him some advice on how to take proper care of the chick. He and his family spent about an hour with us. His wife was surprised to see how much Latte has grown. Latte is going to miss us and we miss him too. In fact I am glad that he came. We didn't have any form of agreement when he left the chick with us. I was afraid that something bad would happen especially when the chick spent most of the day time sleeping.
  17. 4th day with us. Sleeping beauty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geaFmKjYACg
  18. Great news. I am happy for both of you.
