Which of your parrots like to toy snuggle?
Luvparrots replied to lovethatgrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
My CAG and my ZON love toys both to beat up and chew up. No toy cuddlers here. -
I have both a TAG and a CAG. Both are wonderful greys. My TAG, Ana Grey is my first parrot. She is very calm, not a biter, and fearless. She only weighs in at 304g now that she is 4 years old. My TAG doesn't really play with toys she would rather interact with me or just watch the action. She is the boss and although she is the smallest she is the disciplinarian. Ana Grey believes she is really part of my life and an equal to me. Ana Grey loves scratches and tickles and gives kisses and shakes foot/hand. Anyone in the house is fair game to have Ana Grey on a shoulder; grown up or kid. My CAG is a big guy, he weighs in at 505 g and is 17 months old. Sterling Gris is a big fraidy cat and screams when he sees anyone new and very leery of them until he gets to know them. He does not go to anyone but me. But he is only a baby still at 1 1/2 years old. Sterling loves to beat up his toys and is a sound man. He loves to whistle and say "Hello Gorgeous". He carries a great tune and loves to eat. TAGs and CAGs have different personalities. Both are great flyers and talkers. My TAG has a beautiful maroon tail and a bone/black colored beak and a small body. My CAG has a bright red tail and a black beak and is a big guy. They are both beautiful greys. Either TAG or CAG would be a great choice.

My three parrots are all micro-chipped. My first parrot to be micro-chipped is my TAG, she weighed 290g. I total the avian vet that I did not want my grey put to sleep even if it was their policy as I believe to anesthetize for such a simple procedure was more harmful. When I took my CAG in to be chipped, I learned that they had changed their policy, they no longer anesthetized parrots for micro-chipping. My zon was chipped last and not one of my parrots had any problems during the procedure or since. Micro-chipping is a personal choice . I do it because I can always prove that my parrots are mine even though they look like all the other parrots of their species.

Hi Teri, I am all excited for you and Virgil. What a great adventure the two of you are on. Judy has given loads of great advice. Watch Virgil's body language and let her take the lead. Talk to Virgil and let her know what is happening as grey's are very intelligent beings and watch us all the time so see what we are doing. Looking forward to some pictures after you both get acquainted.

I have a 4 year old TAG (08/06/08). When I got her at 4 months, she weighed 291 g. Tonight I weighed her and she is at 304g. She is flighted and flies around a lot.

My three parrots are out together all the time. They go into each others cages to steal food all the time. When one is in another's cage the cage owner just watches outside of the cage. They do not fight or challenge the other who is in their cage. However, they never go into a cage of another if the owner is in it. They do know which cage is their own. They sleep in their own cages. In your circumstances, I would get another cage and see which one wants it for his/her very own. Let them decide.

Hi Diana, great intro. Looking forward to joining you in your search for the right grey.

Hi, I have both a TAG and a CAG. My TAG, Ana Grey, I have had since she was 4 month's old. She will be 4 years old this month. My Ana Grey is a very self-assured grey. She is fearless. I attribute her great personality to her breeder who socialized and played with her babies all the time. Ana Grey is not normally a biter and loves to eat off of my dish and sit on my shoulder. I am a grandmother and live alone but I do have my three-year old grandson over all the time for overnight visits. I have three parrots who are all flighted and out of their cages all time. Ana Grey is the only parrot I let close to my grandson as he is a normal three-year-old and loves to touch. My CAG. Sterling Gris is 1 1/2 years old . I have had him since he was 5 months old. Frankly, Sterling is a fraidy cat and screams when he is threatened, which is all the time when someone other than me is within 3 feet of him. My zon, Louie, is a re-home and is 4 1/2 years old and no one touches him, not even me unless he wants it. He is a biter. So my answer to your questions: It depends on the grey and its own personality and only you/hubby as the grey's parront(s) know how a grey (once you know the grey), will act around kids/people. Only you/hubby as a parent will know how each of your children will act around a parrot so only you can figure out if your grey and kids can live happily ever after. To me you sound like a very caring parront/parent so I say, give it try and with your sensitivity to your kids and animals you will find a mutually agreeable compromise for all.

I have a 4-year-old TAG, a 4-year-old BF ZON, and an 18-month-old CAG. They are out all day long because I am retired. They are all flighted. My TAG is the "boss". She is the most aggressive and is very use to people. I think she thinks she is a human at least an equal to us/humans. They do beak each other or nip at each other tails. I have kept a very close eye on their interactions. So far no bloodshed but I do watch them very closely and tell them "no fighting" all the time. Normally one of the other of them will back off and live to fight another day. They are very respectful to each other at snack time. One will take a bite or two and then move over for another to get their share. Would I trust them alone, NO!

My Sterling Gris is a sound man. He loves to wolf whistle, gives the neighbor lady a thrill whenever she is mowing her lawn because Sterling goes Woo Woo and wolf whistles every time he sees her. Sterling is a talker too, he is the only one of my parrots who say, "Hello Gorgeous" which makes my daughter very happy!!!

Hi Steve, welcome to you and Skippy. It certainly sounds like you and Skippy have a very nice budding relationship going. I can't wait to watch Skippy grow with you. On another note, I looked at the Reef Tank you have! I am so jealous I would love to have such a great looking tank. But for me, a fresh water tank is all I know I can handle. I could watch your tank all day.

Great introduction! Looking forward to learning more about your companions!

You could put an ad in your local newspaper. If I found an animal, that's where I would look for the owner. I hope you find your grey soon. Don't give up, If there is a favorite toy that you could hang out the window just in case. Put the cage on a balcony perhaps.

Welcome to the family! I can't wait to hear about all your different parrots! What fun! Lots of pictures please!!

Hi Robert, I have my parrots microchipped with the hope that someone like you will find them if they are ever stolen/lost. I hope your new grey is not stolen because it sounds like you two are a perfect mix. Holding my breath until you let us know if your little lady is yours to keep.
