    Arrival

Just relax and Kahzi will come out when he is more comfortable. Is the cage up level with the open door? Kahzi is more likely to go comfortably into his cage if he can see the opening in front of him. Perhaps having his favorite foods in his cage will tempt him more quickly to go inside. Gaining trust is the first thing to do, so just relax and Kahzi will come out when he is ready. Patience..... so hard to do, but so important.
  2. I use an artificial tree with all the lights and trimming and have three flighted parrots. Fortunately, they do not bother my tree as they like to be able to see me so if I am not in the living room where the tree is, they are right behind me. Hopefully things will be the same this year. Fingers crossed.
  3. Hi Heather congrats on your new grey, Lucy. I have to ask, is Lucy biting you or just testing your hand before she tries to perch? Judy has given you some great advice so just relax and give Lucy time to get use to her new home. Welcome to the Grey family! Relax and enjoy!
  4. Hi garrett, welcome to the Grey family. Is garrett your name or your new parrot's? I highly recommend learning all you can from the prior owners about your new grey. What his schedule is and what his and the family's routine has been. What his favorite foods are and what his diet has been. Knowing what phrases he knows and things he likes and is use to, is very helpful in aiding with bonding between you and your grey. As for his cage, set it up where and how you want it before putting him in it. Better to make changes before your grey gets use to the arrangement in his new home. Talk gently and quietly to your grey and let him know what is going on. Once he is in his cage, let him settle in so that he can get use to his new situation. Greys are very attentive and watch our every move. Normally a grey so wants to be part of the human flock but on his/her terms not yours. Now you should let your new friend take the lead and let him settle in without any pressure. If the prior family is able to let you know how your new grey asked (body language) to come out of his cage that will certainly help in letting you know when the time is right to first open his cage door so he can come out and start to join in your family activities. The more you can learn about your new grey the easier it will be to know how to make him most comfortable in his new home. He is still quite young so if you are patient and you are willing to take things slow, once he settles in you will certainly have a very entertaining new friend. Looking forward to watching your friendship grow.
  5. Oh love those TAGs, my first parrot is a TAG and she is a joy. Felix is quite handsome! Welcome to the Grey family!
  6. Hi DizzyBlue, welcome to the Grey family. Looking forward to hearing more about Henni Penni and getting to know you and your flock!
  7. Great story! Our zons certainly have their own personalities and surprise us every day. Fig lights up your day just like my Louie does for me. If truly believe that if you don't have a zon, you are missing out on great fun. Thanks for a great smile!
  8. I certainly never have my parrots' beaks trimmed and they keep their own claws trimmed with cement perches and just being active all day. A cement perch is a good thing to have for Amy.
  9. Kudos to Gilbert and Java. Letting our birds work out their "pecking order" all by themselves it probably one of the hardest things to do. To just sit and watch to see that they don't harm each other while they "work it out". I certainly enjoy your updates on Gilbert, he has come a long way. Hooray!
  10. Its nice to hear that Issac is doing well and running your household quite nicely. (smile) Looking forward to more updates when you can.
  11. Chuckie is quite a handsome grey and Dave007 has given you excellent advice on how to care for him. Looking forward to watching Chuckie grow with you.
  12. Hi Mike, please tell us a little about yourself. Are you presently a grey parront? It certainly is not required that you have a grey, just a love for this remarkable parrot. Welcome to the forum.
  13. Frankenstein is quite handsome. I look forward to hearing more about him. Welcome to the Grey family Ricardo.
  14. Not true Timbersmom, I have taken anticoagulants for over thirty years and therefore bleed and bruise very easily and must take penicillin even if I just go to the dentist to prevent infections. Clotting is a problem for me because of my meds. I still wanted and got my three parrots. But in their defense and on their behalf they are not biters. Correction, Louie the zon is but he never breaks the skin. Life and happiness will not be stopped because of a little set back. We just boogie on!
  15. Hi Francisco, welcome to the Grey family. Looking forward to hearing more about you and your family.
  16. Hi Jhon Leon, welcome to the Grey family.
  17. I have young CAG 20 months old who always looks like a mess. His tail has never been beautiful from the day I got him. His tail was all broken and over time he lost them all. His breeders' comment, "If their tails are prefect, they aren't having any fun." Sterling Gris after 15 months has a tail that is not prefect but he is a very active grey, flies all over the house, beats up his toys, and eats like a horse. Besides he has learned to say, "Hello Gorgeous" and "Come here Gorgeous" so I am happy and apparently so is he.
  18. I have a cold and lots of halloween candy. I put the candy bowl on the porch. The kids still ran the doorbell! Had to explain over and over to parents and kids that I had a cold and didn't want to make anyone sick so I hadn't and didn't want to touch the candy. Parents were grateful, kids kept trying to take more than one and the parents kept saying only one, only one! Happy Halloween Everyone!!!!
  19. PjbMom, I too have a zon who will not let me touch him but he goes in and out of his cage at my command. He will not step up but he follows me everywhere. I love him to pieces; my sweet Louie.
  20. Too cute. I like chocolate and almonds Biscotti.

    Help

My parrots are all flighted and fly all over my home. I have perches and boings in each room that they can be in so that they have acceptable places to sit. If one lands on me, my head or shoulder when I don't want he/her there, I just shake them off. You have to be consistent and tell your parrot, NO. He will get the idea but you must be consistent and not let up.
  22. Very nice intro Kristal. So glad you and your flock have joined us. Looking forward to hearing more about Ruru and Freya. Welcome to the Grey family! Can't wait to see some pictures.
  23. Welcome back to the Grey family. Looking forward to hearing more about Jax and Scarlet.
  24. Welcome to you Jim and your grey Honey. Looking forward to hearing more about your older grey.
  25. If your grey can spread her wings and turn she will be all right. Whatever you do, don't stress out because Neytiri will feel your tension. Relax and be glad you and yours are safe and healthy.
