  1. Happy Hatchday Hawkins! Hope to hear from you and Beth more!

    Now what?

I use it in my parrots scrambled eggs. A dash of red palm oil instead of oil and some finely chopped spinach or other veggies and my parrots love it.
  3. I have three flighted parrots and one is a wood eating zon! He loves his wood. He can destroy a wooden toy in a flash. I am retired so my parrots are out a lot. I have boings and perches throughout my home so that they have places to sit and watch. They love to watch. I hear the flap of wings going every time I move from room to room. There are rooms where they can't go, my bathrooms and my bedroom are my sacred places. In the other rooms, the perches and boings are at places that are convenient for me and where my parrots can see the whole room. At each place there are toys and bells and things to keep them busy. In one or two places I have places for snacks for the birdies. After lots of experiments and testing places I have found the places where I can't let my parrots go or have placed "scarey" things so that my parrots don't want to go there or things big enough that there is no room for a parrot. My CAG, Sterling Gris, loves to sit on my shoulder, unfortunately, he has not learned the good manners to not use me as a potty tree! He is tossed off my shoulder the moment he lands there. Because he is flighted, this is not a problem for him. My zon is supplied with lots of pieces of safe hardwood to chew on. It saves my cabinets a lot of damages and of course I do keep a close eye on where my parrots are. This is a must, if I cannot keep them in view they are caged until I can watch them. They are, after all, animals and I am their caretaker. In all fairness, they can also remain uncaged in their bird room with the door closed. I do have to be persistent and consistent in where my parrots can go and what they can do. They are a stubborn lot and it takes a lot of patience and tenacity to keep at them and on them to stay where I want them. I am lucky in the sense that my parrots never go to the floor on purpose. It is one place they do not want to be and will immediately fly up to a perch if one of them goes to ground. Perhaps it is my blind ferocious 12-year-old pug that keeps them off the ground. To me a flighted parrot is a marvelous sight and it is well-worth the trouble to keep my birdies flighted.
  4. No my greys don't beg, they just assume what is mine is theirs and they just take it off my plate, out of my hand, off of the countertop.....
  5. Welcome to you and Miko! I am looking forward to learning more about the two of you.
  6. What a greyt update on Pippin. She has brought you along nicely to understand the meaning of patience and trust. Please keep us in touch with you and Pippin's progress. If you have any pictures we would love to see them.
  7. Nice update on your little lady!
  8. Hi Sarah, welcome to the Grey family! Looking forward to hearing more about your sweet grey Trinity and Flapjack, the conure.
  9. Hi Natasha, welcome to you and Sadiee. Looking forward to learning more about Sadiee's and your relationship.
  10. Oh dear Linda, an English teacher, now we're are going to have a grey among us speaking correct English and correcting us all. Oh my! (heh, heh) welcome to the Grey family Zephyr and Linda. As for the size of the cage, if the breeder is weaning the grey, Zephyr should also be pretty good at perching. A good breeder usually keeps a young grey until they are fully weaned and perching without a problem. I have had both my greys since weaned and they have always lived in their present cages. I know many have sleeping cages for their greys for many different reasons. Looking forward to getting to know both you and Zephyr, welcome to the Grey family!
  11. Casar, I am delighted your question was answered. As for Jayd and Nancy, get over it and do your squabble by PM! Why do you find it necessary to spoil another informative thread again!
  12. Please let your grey come out of her cage on her own. To gain trust you must let your grey make her own decisions. Trying to force a grey to do anything is always non-productive. Rosie seems to be a very sweet grey, please give her a chance to be herself.
  13. About once a week I give my greys finely chopped spinach in their scrambled eggs cooked in a dash of red palm oil. Maybe add in a drop of chopped hot pepper. They love it.
  14. My parrots are always taller than me, of course, if I am sitting down, and they are sitting with me they are not. I am not sure what being taller has to do with anything as my parrots are all flighted and normally taller or higher up than me.
  15. Hi Cesar, if he was in an abusive situation, he probably feels much safer at the floor of the cage at night. Unfortunately when we re-home some of our birds/parrots we can't always know what goes through their minds and what caused a certain behavior. Kudos to you for such patience and love for this sweet grey. I am looking forward to learning more about the both of you. Welcome to the Grey family.
  16. Had to share this yummy owl with everyone!
  17. Hi Claire. Your baby is certainly a cutie. Looking forward to learning more about the two of you. Welcome to the Grey family!
  18. I am so sorry to hear about Phoebe. I hope you will continue to be part of the Grey family. We would love to get to know Jackson.
  19. How wonderful. I love to see a fully flighted bird. They are so gosh darn beautiful!
  20. Personally, I believe quality is much more important than quantity. If your grey enjoys being with you, I would get him a portable table stand and just let him come with you throughout the house. My greys love to come with me and follow me from room to room and usually sit quietly or play around on their boings and perches. They just want to be be able to see me and be with me. I would not take the pleasures that Loki has away from him. Regardless if he lives a day, a week, a month or years, it is the joys of life that he will want not the quantity. This is of course my personal opinion as a person who is "handicapped" with a heart condition since birth. I am still here and regardless of what my cardiologist says, I am still ticking. Be sensible with Loki and both of you can enjoy life together forever how long.
  21. My greys like to go to daughter's home with me and settle in nicely. I think if your get your grey use to travel it could be all right. I do know my greys love to be with me and miss me when I am not around. Give the traveling a try its the only way you will find out.
  22. My TAG picked me and my CAG was the only one available at the time. I am very happy with both.
  23. My CAG was my sound man when he first started to talk. Now all is does is talk. He is very quick to remember words and loves to sing. Enjoy!
  24. Hi Megan welcome to you and your new CAG. Looking forward to getting to know you both!
