I agree it is a shame that we can't tell the age of our re-homed greys/fids unless we can follow their history. As for my eclectus I know he is at least 10 years old. The owner of the pet shop had him and tried to re-home him for 7 1/2 years. He was found in a car wash and the pet shop was called to come get him. I have had Sully for about a year-and-three months. He was not a baby when he was found and was already a plucker so I guess he is at least 10. I say he is older than the hills because he just acts old. He doesn't play but like to be with me and wants to be in a cage. He must have the lights out at 7:00 pm or he screams bloody murder. I wish I knew how old he is.
How long have you had your grey? Are you trying to get her to go back into her cage? Please tell us a little more about your grey so that we can better help you. If I want my grey to go back into her cage and she doesn't want to I bribe her. She loves nuts and seeds so I just put some in to her food dish and she goes back into her cage. I save her seeds and nuts for the evening so this is easy to do. I certainly would not be grabbing your grey as that will definitely break any thrust your grey has in you.
Oh so sorry.
After I told the local pet shop owner that my male eclectus was hormonal she told me about her macaw that bite the beak off a friend's quaker and strongly warned me that I should keep a close eye on the eclectus and my grey. Which, of course, I always do.
I'm so glad your mother's bird will be fine.
Great question. I have an older re-homed eclectus that I believe is older than the hills. He is pretty set in his ways and very easy going. Calm and unchangeable.
I only have the one cage for my grey which is in the bird room. Ana Grey is usually out all day and uses her boings and perches during the day. I do have a travel cage/emergency cage for her that is collapsible.

I like the EZ Care cages: Here is another site with great cages:

I live alone and I don't regret it one bit. I have my Ana Grey and she is jealous of other pets. To get over the "crazy bird lady" syndrome I have re-homed an older ecelctus who really needed a nice quiet place to live. He is a jewel. I also recent purchased a singing canary to feel my house with song. So I am limiting myself to needs not wants. It least that's what I tell myself!!!!
My fids are dropping feathers downy and long feathers all over their cages. I can't wait for the molting to end. Fingers crossed that my re-homed eclectus will be able to fly soon. Bezzina hopefully your fid's vet will be able to tell you that your grey is also just molting.
