  1. At 4th of July time, the days before and a couple after, it gets pretty noise from the fireworks around here (I live in a small town). In the State of Washington, civilians are allowed to use and have fireworks that go off into the sky. When it is noise, I have my birds in their room, a back bedroom, and turn of the radio so music fills the air to distract them So far this has worked to quiet and calm my parrots.
  2. My Ana Grey is totally bonded to me and is with me everyday, all day long. The two male family member visit often and so Ana Grey enjoys their company occasionally but will come to me over them. I just wanted you to know that greys/parrots choose the people they like, and who knows why, just like humans, you like certain people/family/friends over others.
  3. Great pictures Sanggay and Ray. And now I must remind myself (Janet, you don't need a cockatiel, you don't need a cockatiel, you don't need........) whewwwww...

    worried

It looks like normal flaking to me also. Judy has given great advice about a cement perch.
  5. Hi Rick, I am home all day long and my Ana Grey is out most of the day. She enjoys being with me and flies to my shoulder, back of my desk chair and various perches and boings I have throughout the house. If I don't want her on my shoulder I just flick her off and she lands on the back of my chair, as you can see I am on the computer now. Or she will land on the various other places in the room for her. You trained Sunny to land on your hand so re-train her to land somewhere else close by and only on your hand when offered. If Sunny is on your hand just place her on a stand or perch close by and give her a treat, toy or something else to distract her. If I talk to Ana Grey or Louie, my zon, they listen intently and greys and zons are very smart if you are patient and show them what you want they try to oblige. I also have a bird room for my parrots and if I need time alone, I just put them in the room and close the door. I have a radio and lots of toys and perches for Ana Grey or Louie to use and play with inside the room. I do change around my parrots' toys and so far they are never bored. I would love to see some pictures of Sunny. She sounds delightful!!!
  6. I live alone with my parrots and pug. My TAG only sees family when they come over on weekends or holidays usually a couple of times a month, at different times. There are two male member of my family that my TAG likes. She will fly to them and sit on the shoulders on her own. She follows my older grandson into the computer room and they share assorted kinds of nuts. Although Ana Grey sees Tony only a couple of times a month, she never forgets their bond. If she hears his voice she will come looking for him. My other grandson, an eleven year old, never interacts with Ana Grey, Ana Grey flies to him. She has chosen him and loves to sit on his shoulder. Greys chose their friends not the other way around. At least that is how it is at my house. My parrots are both flighted and fly in and out of the rooms as they want. Sometimes they just like to sit on perches and watch. Sometimes they go to their birdroom to be alone.
  7. My two parrots are not buddies in fact Ana Grey dive bombs Louie any chance she gets to keep him at bay. They both go into each other's cages while they are both in the room. But only to steal each others food. I just keep an eye on them both because I don't want any conflict about boundaries and cages. Usually if they see me coming they get out of the other's cage because I am the one to object not them.
  8. Hi Michael Fields. I have a female TAG as a companion and she is a sweetheart. By the way I am a female and my Ana Grey is very attached to me. Please read through the many threads in the forum about bonding. Just like people there is no guarantee where the heart will go. Welcome to the forum.
  9. I would love to see some of Cricket's picture with you and your family! She is so different than my Louie who can wreak havoc all day long if he wanted. He is a busy, busy guy! Pictures please!

    Blue

Oh, Blue always pops into my thoughts now and then and I always wonder when you will be posting about him. I am so very sorry for his loss. He had a wonderful and long life. Bless him. And thank you for sharing him with us.
  11. Yes, please let us know whose grey Buster is now. That would certainly help with any suggestions members have for the situation.
  12. So distract him by talking to him or giving him something else to do. Perhaps he is just bored and needs a change.
  13. When I went to pick my grey, I had five to choose from. Ana Grey chose me. I thought she was female and so did her breeder. Turns out, we were right. Good guess???? Who knows. I would have been happy with either. I believe you should pick your parrot when you meet the one that likes you and that you like in return. Regardless of sex. Just my opinion.
  14. We do have members who parrots have been found and returned. I have my grey micro-chipped to help her return if the finder just takes her to a vet and asks them to scan her. Unfortunately, not every finder will look for the true owner.
  15. My Ana Grey I believe is very bonded to me but she always looks longingly at the outdoors. Whenever I take her out in her harness she always, and yes always tries to fly off. Just once is all she tries, I believe in hopes that I did not tighten the harness enough to hold her. She loves to fly and flies all over the house and makes beautiful turns into the different rooms. She will sit at the door on a plant stand I have at the window when I am outside and turns her head to see if she can get through. I don't kid myself for one moment that she would not fly out the door the first chance she got. She would fly and fly and when she got her fill she would land and look around and wonder where Mommy is and why she doesn't come get her because she is tired and wants her dinner. Where are you Mommy????? I'm hunger and tired???? My worst fear........
  16. When I got Ana Grey at 4 months, she was clipped by her breeder. Ana Grey was always trying to fly and I have hardwood floors. I would help her out. If I saw her flapping her wings and ready to launch I would have her step up on my arm and go to a place that was safe. I would launch her toward the sofa or bed where she would land softly. As her wings got stronger I would launch her toward a hanging boing or ceiling perch where she could land without a crash. It told about a year for her to become fully flighted and I believe this safe practicing helped her strengthen her wing muscles. Ana Grey now flies and maneuvers around the house like a jet pilot. The boings and perches throughout my home are her landing places so I usually know where to find her now that she can fly.
  17. I do not work and my parrots are out most of the day. I find that even though I am usually home, my parrots enjoy personal time for themselves. They do not need my full attention all the time. They enjoy preening or playing with their toys. So I agree with those that work, as long as you have some time before and after work for your parrot(s) they are still very happy and can get use to a schedule as long as there is time for them and once you come home they are part of the family and the action.
  18. Both of my parrots are flighted. I have hanging perches and boings where I want my parrots to be in each of my rooms. They are pretty good at always perching there as I have foraging toys and toys to keep them occupied when they are out of their cages. You can train your grey to go where you want him to, and because he is quite young this should be an easy task if you are consistent. I rest much easier knowing that my parrots aren't walking around on the floor where I can step on them or trip on them.
  19. Hi to you and Zen. Looking forward to seeing and hearing about the two of you growing together. Welcome to the Grey family!
  20. Lovely grey, lovely wife! You are a lucky man!!! Thanks for sharing!
  21. Hi Joe, for sure your new grey must be where the action is and certainly not in a dark and lonely basement! There are oodles of threads here in the different rooms, please read as many as you can to see what an intelligent and loving companion your grey will be if treated well. Ask all the questions you want, there are lots of caring and loving grey family here to help. Welcome to the Grey family!
  22. It's a wonderful thing your family is doing to give Koko and Eggbert new forever homes. For sure, Koko needs a larger cage to move around in. I look forward to hearing more about your two new friends, welcome to the Grey family!
  23. Hi Joe, wait until you meet your new companion. I'm sure a name will pop into your head that is just right. Once you see your new friend's personality it will be easier to find the right name. I am certainly looking forward to seeing your new grey. Welcome to the Grey family!
  24. My amazon is quiet until I get up and sometimes Ana Grey goes through her vocabulary around 7:00 am. But they are pretty quiet until I enter their room with their breakfast.
  25. Very nice update on Hawkins!!! Of course, some pictures would be great also!!!!!
