Very cute pictures!!! Congratulations on your baby girl! Have a name picked out yet?

Hi pikachu, not to worry so much, if your baby's breeder is fully weaning your grey before you bring him home all should go well. Make sure that the breeder is willing to receive calls and questions after you bring your baby home and that should be reassuring. I was a first time parrot owner when I got my first grey and her breeder was a true gem. She even called me when I got home 3 hours later. We talked before I received my baby and for months after. Millie sent me home with oodles of information, magazines and food that lasted a couple of weeks. Millie was a great breeder and was always there for me. So relax and congratulations on your baby grey. I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures and hearing more about your little bundle!

Hi suzannejoy, can't wait to hear more about your sweet grey. What is your baby's name? Welcome to the Grey family! -
Sounds like you are both having fun! My feet are so tickles that is not something my parrot or anyone could do with me!

Hi bobby22, welcome to the forum. I hung around here for 3 months before I got my first parrot. It was very informative and I learned a lot. Everyone is very helpful so ask questions and read read, read!

My parrots, I have three, are all flighted and out all day long usually. I have perches throughout my home for them and they have toys at each station. They do not chew my woodwork but I watch them constantly. I do cage them at night just in case. What if there is a fire or an emergency need to evaluate. I want to know where they are at all times so I can easily get them into their travel cages and outside. Parrots have a tendency to become quiet and out of sight if they are frightened or afraid. If parrots are scared or confused they will bite and fight. In an emergency I want to be able to find them quickly and safely get them to safety and avoid any confusion that might hamper my goal. Smoke is a very deathly thing to parrots and their delicate lungs.

Pretty Bird for African Greys is what my TAG's breeder was feeding her when I first got her. It is what she still gets now although she really doesn't eat pellets anymore. She is now 3 years old.

It depends on what you want and how you will use it. I have two types one that is enclosed which I use to take a parrot to the avian vet in: http://www.petsolutions.com/storefront/bird/pet-bird/cages-carriers/bird-traveler-case/prodPetVoyageBirdTravelerCase.html and one for longer trips like when they need a cage large enough to spend a couple of days in: http://www.petsolutions.com/storefront/product-view.ep?pID=folddownwhitetravelcage&utm_source=nextag&utm_medium=comparison&utm_term=48000020&utm_campaign=folddownwhitetravelcage

I divide a boiled egg or a scrambled egg among my three parrots once a week. I mix it with peas and carrots and make a mash out of it.

I have three very independent and self-assured parrots. Even the 6-month old grey is fearless. I talk to them all the time. Just like greys have a body language you can read if you try so do people and my parrots know me very well. The tone of my voice, a certain posture stance I use at a given time, just like them we all have this language too. Sometimes when I am talking they will cock their heads and listen intensely, I find this very interesting to watch. They try so hard to understand us and if you give them a chance they can. Just like we can understand them if we really try. I believe our pets just like our children need a routine and you have to be consistent in what you do or ask them to do. No sometimes isn't all right and other times you reprimand them just won't work. If you aren't consistent they get confused and react in contrary ways. My birds are flighted so if they go where I don't want them, I shoo them off, if they want on my shoulder and start to nibble an ear, I flick them off. If you have ever watched a parent bird with their young they don't mollycoddle them and I don't with my parrots either. I believe they are better for it and we have a great relationship. If Ana Grey does something I don't like, I say "Stop That" and if I do something she dislikes, she throws the words right back at me!!! Little stinker!

Louie has been part of my flock for a year now. He is still the perfect clown he was when I first got him and he is very comfortable here with my little flock. As you all know, Louie is a 3-year-old re-home who wasn't really very tame when I first got him. He still will not step-up and I still cannot handle him. He is a biter if you try to touch him and although he hasn't nailed me yet, he still tries, Little Devil! Even with his cantankerous deposition I refuse to give up on him. He so wants to be loved, he just does not understand how its done. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are both trying and that is what really matters. Louie is very smart and although I can't handle him, he does what I ask of him. He comes out of his cage and has even given me cheek kisses, with no biting! If I want to take him outside, he will climb into his travel cage without a problem to go outside into the sunshine. When I want him back into his cage, I just have to say, "nite, nite Louie. Time to go nite nite" and he will fly back to his cage so that I can close him in for the night. Louie still speaks Hindi, but is also learning English. He plays very roughly with his toys and destroys at least one toy a week, I need to have my own forest he is so busy destroying wooden toys! Luckily he does not like woodwork!!!! Amen to that!!! Louie does not like my male congo grey, Sterling, but Sterling is not a fan of Louie's either. Perhaps its just a guy thing (lol)! I am very happy with my little flock, they are all independent and very fearless and not one of them minds me very readily! I couldn't be happier with my little band of renegades!!!

Taking your grey to the vet is an excellent idea as it will serve to be two fold. If you are truly re-homing your grey having a physical by an avian vet will be a nice way to ensure to the new parront that your grey is healthy for which I am sure the new parront will be very appreciative. You will also be assured that the clipping is done correctly.

Molly is a cutie! Congratulations on your baby coming home. Looking forward to hearing more!!!

Hello Egan! So glad you are home. Looking forward to hearing about your settling in!

Before I got my birds I knew I would let them fly so I replaced all my carpets with laminated wood or tile. Best thing I ever did. This works for me because I live alone. My two older birds never go to the bottom of their cages and so the only cage that has its original wire grate is the youngest, who is only 5 months old. Hopefully soon he will also stop going to the floor of the cage (fingers crossed). None of them scatters food or tosses it around their cages so I am very lucky in that regard so I have removed the seed guards and only put newspaper around the cages weighted with small rocks (paper moves when the birds fly) I pick these up when the birds are in for the night or if company is coming. I seldom have my birds out if people are around other than family. I also use weighted newspaper around the ceiling perches I have throughout the house for the birdies. And yes my home is more a roost than a house for my babies.

I have toys all through the house for my parrots. My zon loves them, my CAG will play a little and my TAG more or less ignores them. It is the foraging stuff that all three like! It must be the food in them!

Great looking Avatar Amy! Hello to you and Matilda. Looking forward to hearing more about Matilda and getting to know you. Welcome to the Grey family!

I have three parrots, a 3-year old TAG I have had since she was 4 months old, a re-homed BF Amazon whom I have had since last September, who is almost 4 years old, and a 5 month old CAG that I have had since August 9th. Each has its own cage and as even the 5 month old CAG is a bruiser. They do not like each other and they only time they do not dive bomb or attack each other is in their bird room. They are all flighted and very independent and full of vinegar. They each have their own cage and their own travel cage, I would never place them on the same perch let alone the same cage as there would be a blood battle. Some members do have different kinds of parrots that "get along" I am not that fortunate but would not trade any of the three I have as they are all different and so full of personality.

Hi Tyaris, please tell us about your new grey. Is it a TAG or a CAG? Did you adopt a young grey or re-home an older one? Details please and of course pictures! Welcome to the Grey family!
-
Hi Jana, welcome to the Grey family! Looking forward to hearing more about Lilu and seeing some pictures of sweet grey!
-
Hi Lauren, I really can't see what you are concerned about. Sounds like Taco was just expressing herself and was full of vinegar. I have 3 1/2 year old BF zon, who at times tries to destroy his boing and bell, he is so animated. My grey, Ana Grey, will talk up a storm in the dark at night sometimes or perhaps early in the morning, it always makes me smile to know they are so happy and healthy and just having fun. How long have you been Taco's parront? We would love to see some pictures or video of Taco having fun!

Some days my parrots are quiet and some days noisy. I do know that they will only say what they like or what gets a reaction or has a meaning for them.
