OK I have been looking for a reason to brag My grey is 14 weeks today and we started training already and in 1 week he has learned "turn around" and "the wave" already and does them almost perfect (gonnna take video tomarrow) We just started doing shake and hes started picking up the difference between wave right away > I am so proud I thought hes too young to learn anything and he has proved me wrong !! He is so smart already he even "bombs away" when I ask him too:) Also we have no problems with flight and landing. I have been using puffed corn and rice crispies for snacks. So I say start early it gives you positive interactions with lots of praise and it works !! Good luck with yours, BirdChannel.cokm has a great free section on trick training and the start with easiest first .

I just also wanted to say I just brought my baby home a few weeks ago and my mind was spinning and most of the things I stressed about all just fell into place and was never a worry at all !! I had a great breeder who worked very hard on his socialization before coming home and I feel he came very well rounded but he just kinda fot in imediantly!

OOOG Pachela looks like you have another baby to come home with you !!! She looks so pretty, How are things at home with her ?? How cool you get to take her to work !!

Babys will adapt much easier then a older bird with a past. Babys will accept what is and fit it to the schedule you provide. You will bond. Our feathered friends learn from experiences and I dont believe they are just born with a pretetermined like or dislike to say a certain sex. If you are purchasing a baby Please read alot about socialization. There are alot of mistakes that can be made but if you educate yourself you will do fine. Problems can occur with young greys but if you are educated the very best you can be this will help tons!! About choosing a baby, you could ask the breeder for detailed info on their personalitys, mabey one is curious and outgoing and mabey one is shy but loving or one is more on a dominant side, this knowledge might help a little with what you think fits into your household. Some breeders can send videos of the interaction with a human or brood mates and can show some personality. Good luck with what ever you choose I am not a expert just do alot of reading others with more experience should be along soon!

My baby loves to cuddle and usually intiates it himself I dont push the issue. When I say cuddle I mean cuddle he comes under my chin and lays on his side and rubs his head and trys to bury it in my neck and the more I hug him the more he gets into it My opinion is if you are consistent and make sure he makes the decision on when and where its ok . But if you let the honeymoon end and start to not give him the same interaction hes used to then this is when you will run into issues. You have hopefully made a life long commitment to the well being and happiness of this friend and if he gets the physical touch he seeks or doesnt he should remain well rounded. Alot of our friends have not had this consistency since babys and therefore they should make the call on whats proper and whats not.

ZZero has found the joy of throwing things to the floor! This morning we had carnage I always let him help me fix his veggies in the kitchen. I turned to wash a veggie and BAM ceramaic bowl broken to 100 pieces on the floor( my fault) so as I was cleaning it all up I was hit with a carrot and then a bell and anything within his reach was hitting the floor. I put him on his cage so I could attempt the mess he flew to my shoulder and made a laughing sound and rubbed his head all over my cheek. It was so cute like he was sorry but not really with the underbreath chuckle. I learned a lesson dont turn back if breakables are within reach. It was a good laugh for me this morning even though I had to clean a huge mess

Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2008/10/10 19:02

My grocery store said I could bring him to shop for veggies The manager came up with a story on how he is a "helper" he said if anything was said about it to say hes a early warning sign for a stroke or that I have a fear of earthquakes and he stays with me for early warnings lolol I thought it was sweet he put in the effort to think of things so I can bring him shopping
