I have several stories going back to when I was 2 years old, my mother always took in stray anything and everything, if there was a lonely animal in need of help they came to us !! This was obviosly passed down to me as in the last few years myself and the wildlife rescue have became great friends. I have had a baby crow who I did everything in my power to help the parents with ( they never left him ) he fell so I kept the dogs in and let them feed him on the ground till he was stronger he lived and hung aroud my yard all the way till I moved ( I STILL GO LOOK FOR HIM), then a baby Red tail who I had to keep in my house for a few hours till rescue came for him SO FUN!! Last year I went out to my car and there was a yellow baby duck at my gate( no ducks anywhere near me)a seagull crashed into my door, a baby squirrel ran thru my door and made friends with my dog, I have had a dove lay her eggs in my hanging plant right out my door about 15 times almost 5 sets each year ( horny birds) omgosh there are so many more. When I was about 6 we were at the creek and a wild Blue jay landed on my head and the proceeded to bath in a near puddle for hours with us while we enjoyed our day. Anyways I think being a bird person was just somthing I was born with, My friends have called me bird lady for years and have always had birds in my house till the last few years I am so excited to welcome another feathered friend into my life!! So what turned you on to knowing that a bird was somthing you needed or wanted to share your life with ??

lol - I have been doing the same thing I happen to live in a bird paradise because I dont think anyone in my nieghborhood even has a cat( never see any) so right now I have 4 different familys in my yard 4 Doves (awsome sound!!) 5 wood peckers (tap tap tap) 3 little mocking birds ( zeros teachers I am sure) and my favorite but worst sound is my 6 yes 6 Bluejays which hang out right out the window where Zero will be near. I am so worried about the jay calls they are so loud !! haha I can hear the Jays on the roof now playing:) I CANT WAIT!!! It is gonna be so fun for us )

Oh she is beautiful Pchela. I sure hope you get to bring her home this weekend!! I am gonna need to live vicariously thru you !! Just got off the phone with the breeder Zero is still begging. So I have at least another week to go, she has separated him from his brother who is not interested in weaning at all ( big baby) she thinks it may contribute to Zero begging still. Hes almost done, gone full days then begs the next. SO I am so sad I thought he would get to come home this weekend !! OMG another full week of pacing the floors !! even though I am sad , I am glad she didn't tell me I could finish him off, I can wait for everything to be perfect

Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2008/09/26 06:35

I am very sorry I was hoping for good news I watched this this story unfold and all I can say is I feel you did everything right, no regrets and nothing to change you did everything you could. Spike loved you and I am glad he got to feel that at home before he went. I have two tiels over the rainbow and they now have new flock mate and are happily flying free

NO she didnt win, case thrown out it was not the contracters respponsibility to know the safety of fumes to the birds. Glad I did post this ) A few days away from our loves is worth it in the grand sceme of being together for life:)

yes hes coming from a breeder about 2 1/2 hours away we have met and cuddled and I was inlove and have been obsessed with getting ready for his arrival EVERYTHINGS READY but him Hes a Congo the breeder called him Zero for when she was taking him to the vet my family loved the name ( I am used to it now but didnt want him to feel like a Zero lol)as it goes well with my dogs Ozzy and ZZoy. When I made his wellness appointment the vet told me I had to spell his name ZZero to go with the clan. I think Isabeau is a very cute name

not sure on the bark mabey just looking for bugs?? I forgot to mention leave the solution on for just about 10 or 15 min then rinse well )
-
mine come in a week too, hopefully Sat or Sun he just has to maintain weight this week I am crawling out of my skin and losing sleep so wish you good night sleep, I will think of your why I am pacing around and around my house

You need to atleast scrub it with a 10% bleach solution and if possible bake the branches @250 for a hour. If the branches are too big to bake and you think they may have bugs you can seal it air tight in saran wrap or a big plastic bag for 30 days. The branches should be cleaned and disifected at least with the solution and a brush. Hope this helps I just made mine and it beautiful

I just watched a case where a women was suing a contracter for the deaths of her 2 greys and macaw and I thought the point it made was worthy to know. The lady was having her floors refinished she had the birds outside, the contractor opened the windows and the toxic fumes came thru the window to the outside and the birds were killed instantly. So just a note about how fast it can happen and if you are doing anything like this in your home its best to have them completely out of the house for over 72 hours ( according to manufactures of the product (floor sealer/finish). I felt sorry for the lady she thought they were safe outside but I cant see it being the contracters responsibility to tell you the risk to your animals this is somthing we should all know. anyways thought it was interesting

The cage is in the front of the house and my room is in the back I am not sure if I should cover Zeros cage or not at night.I have read different things that not having them covered will help if he has a nightfright but others say to cover to help them feel secure?? I am worried if he has a fright I wont hear him. the room he is in has a adjustable light and I plan on using it as a night light for him. hes not home yet this weekend hopefully I am just obsessing on everything:P So do you cover?? Can I cover 3 sides??

Perfect thank you I just didnt want to over whelm him. I meant attach a cloth to cover just one corner so he has a rerteat of some kind cause the cage is in the midst of all goings on in our home and I read they like corners for security if needed, although he will rarley be in the cage...
-
do you put any oils on the beak to help with the process?? Thank you for all the info I am so blessed to find this forum before baby comes home
-
Hi all First, when first bringing baby home and introducing him to his new cage should I keep toys at a minimum?? also I have read that a cage should be in a corner well that is proving almost impossible and I have it placed on a center wall in the dining room ( which is also in the living room) would it be OK if I create a corner for him maybe with a piece of darker cloth?? Thank you I am starting to freak out a bit we are at a week and a half till he comes home. I just want everything perfect:)
