my biggest money saving idea is to buy baby toys from a charity shop. yes you have to be careful what you buy and give it a good clean but tigerlily now has lots of foot toys like baby rattles most of which cost less than £2 each, whcih she enjoys throwing on the floor ! BARGIN!

i've been looking too dave, can only find one site from america called mother plucking' bird toys and they costs over $100 so some savings required. once again, northern parrots have let us down here in the uk by not selling EVERYTHING lol
-
yeah i know, but i was hoping she'd take to it really quickly. i'm very lucky in the sence that if i put tigerlily on my shoulder and hold the new toy with my mouth tigerlily trys to take it STRAIGHT away and we have a little tug of war to make her want it more, however not the case with the boing lol. also not the case with perches, she hates them and takes about a week to get used to them but even that is quick so i hear lol

YEAHHHHH at last, Tigerlily has her 1st boing:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: but of course she's terrified of it lol:whistle: :pinch:  i knew i HAD to sort something out when you guys replied to my thread about biting picture frames, boings and mirrors was the advice i was given. i had problems cause i have a thin artex ceiling. i had made several trips to B&Q (diy/hardware store) and i always got a negative answer in how to hang a boing, everyone said any hook would pull the artex down. but.... on closer examination the previous tenants had strip lights that needed screws in the ceiling, a few screw plugs were still in place but there was also a hole where one used to be. it looked like i had very thick plaster board above the artex (prob two layers) so, in one of the excisting plugs i held my breath and tried putting a screw up one of them and gave it a bit of a tug to see if it would withstand the weight, and i tugged and tugged and it was going nowhere:P so i returned to B&Q and brought some "medium weight use, metal self-drive plugs" and some screw hooks. came home, held my breath again and screwed one in place, the artex came away a bit but once it was in place and the hook up, i tugged and it seemed solid. so.... SUCCESS AT LAST!!!!!!! here's a pic, i know it's a bit small but i was worried about the weight, i now plan on investing in a larger one. and she also loves hanging from the small orange thing at the bottom of the pic so i thought small wouldn't be too problematic for her. sorry about the long entry but i just had to share my excitement, even if tigerlilies not impressed at the moment  :woohoo:

just an update it's been a few days now and no flying onto picture frames:woohoo: lets hope this continues:blink: well i put cling film on the tops of the frames and after a few attempts of trying to fly onto them she has given up for now, she didn't try to eat the cling film but i don't think she liked the feel of it. the cling films still up for now, fingers crossed it;s done the job

i wasn't sure what room to put this in so feel free to move it! i'm thinking of getting a reptile, not too sure what type yet, wanted a tortoise but don't have the garden for it. ideally i wanted a reptile that could spend it's life in the tank, by the looks of it lizards and the like are probably going to be my best bet. my question is this, it seems that most lizards are nocturnal, would tigerlily keep the lizard awake during the day and the lizard keep her awake at night? are there anyother problems that people may forsee?

thanks she has LOADS of foot toys outside her cage which she gets endless pleasure in throwing them on the floor! maybe a mirror might be a good idea, she did enjoy her reflection in my bedroom mirror!

i'm in deperate need of help!!! over these past couple of months Tigerlily has taken to flying onto my picture frames and biting them to pieces. i think she does this because she can see her reflection in the glass and to annoy me. i've tried ignoring her, she just destorys them even more. i've tried calmly taking her down, she just flies back up. i've tried shouting at her, she just ignores me and laughs. i've tried praising her when she flies off on her own accord, she just flies back up. she does it when i'm in the room and when i'm not. short of clipping her wings or taking the pics down (both routs i'm not prepared to go down) i'm at a loss as how to stop her from doing it. is there something i can put onto the frames that wont harm the frames or tigerlily but when she bites it will make her think twice about doing it again? any advice welcome thanks

thanks everyone. i thought it was for the attention but just thought it a little odd as she hates strangers. i guess she just knows she's gorgous and thinks she deserves the attention lol
-
As the weather's been getting nicer, i've been taking tigerlily outside in my front garden in a cage. When someone passes her and doesn't pay her any attention she'll lower her head, lift her wings slightly whilst shaking them and give a high picked whistle/shrill after them. Is she warning them to go away or saying, "hey, look at me!" she does this with me when i come home but bearing in mind that she hates strangers i was wondering if it is a call and display to get attention?

I've mentioned it to my dad a few times and he is VERY reluctant to put hooks or the like up into the ceiling so i can hang toys and swings for tigerlily. my ceiling is airtex and my dad recons he'd have to find the beam in the ceiling to screw anything to. i thought about using the "no more nails" stuff but a guy at B&Q said it would just pull the airtex straight off. HOW DO U GUYS GET UR TOYS HANNGING FROM THE CEILING???
-
thanks guys i had brought her a red parasol designed to attach to a babies pushchair so now i just got to get her used to it before we go camping in august

Hi Could I leave Tigerlily out in the british sunshine (in a cage) all day without any shade? or would she get sunburn (or the bird equivalent) or dehydrate, and how would i know if she's getting too much sun and too hot? or can our dear friends never get too hot or too much sun?
-
i also have the travel pack. it's very light and comfy but...... tigerlily has chewed a great big whole in the canvas after her 1st trip and wont leave it alone, i figgure its her cage and she thinks she can do what she likes to it lol. i also wouldn't like to keep her in it for too long as she only just fits in it and i've yet to figgure out how to have water in there without it spilling as it's too small for a none spill bottle. but i still think it's a great cage

hi. i want to get a indoor tree/plant to go next to tigerlilies cage and was wondering what ones were totally safe for our greys. i've been looking at the yucca and i've found that the branches are safe but not sure about the leaves. i was looking for a largish leavy tree/plant that wouldn't be of any concern if tigerlily decided to eat it  does anyone know if yucca is totaly safe and if not does anyone know of anyother indoor plants/trees that r totally safe?

i've also heard that u can send a feather for sexing but judy is right in that there is no visual way of telling what sex they r, it has 2 b done by dna

I'm thinking about getting a AG parrot but...
Tigerlily replied to Kipsie's topic in The GREY Lounge
i've heard that although greys are the best talkers they are also ones of the quietest, dont know if this is true. Tigerlily isn't very loud but i live alone so the house is quiet, she has her moments when she flys around screeming the place down for what just appears to be for the fun of it but she also can spend hrs sat queitly ontop her cage playing with her toys. the darker it gets the queiter she gets at the moment she goes to bed early, around 7:30 and i don't her a thing from her until about 6:00am. the cage? i'd buy a proper parrot cage on wheels, greys like 2b high up and chew everything, i don't think the guinnea pig cage will b quite up 2 the job. there's a few posts in here with pics of peoples cages, check it out. -
what a lovley story, nearly made me cry

After reading this thread i realised i should b eighing tigerlily and looked online for avian scales only to discover to my horror that they were around £70:unsure: Surely my digital kitchen scales would do the job? so this morning i thought i was going 2 have a fight on my hands trying to get her to stand on the scales but tigerlily was her normal trusting self and stood on the scales 1st time and i'm glad 2 report that tigerlily weighs a healthy 470g She got a monkey nut as a reward and weighing her will now become a regualr routine. thanks

thanks guys. i wish someone could make the decision 4 me lol, i cant make my mind up. my main concerns r how it will afect tigerlily whether i have the time for another whether i have the space for another, to start with the new grey will be in my bedroom but will eventually HAVE to live right next to tigerlily although in its OWN cage. and tigerlily can be quite boistrus at times, could i cope with two boistrus greys. i also live alone, work full time and don't have anyone to look after tigerlily when i'm away, i'm starting too take tigerlily with me and would be harder to do with two greys. it's such a big decision, i didn't know what i was letting myself in for when i got tigerlily but dont regret her for one minute, and i don't want to regret having another
-
oh, putting them in the same cage didn't even cross my mind. thanks 4 the input guys, i'm thinking it might b a little 2 much 4 me 2 handle
-
WOW. how did u manage 2 train him not 2 fly away?
-
Some of u might remember from my 1st posts that i have a work friend who has a grey. I have been thinking 4 ages about getting another grey but never made my mind up cause i'm worried about how it will affect Tigerlily. My work friend has just asked me if I want 2 buy her grey. Now, i know there's no such thing as a BAD grey, just BAD owners but this grey feather plucks and doesn't come out of her cage because she is apparently 2 viscious 2 anyone other than my friends husband (who the grey loves and regurgitates for) I don't know if i would b taking on more than i can handle. Would the new grey teach Tigerlily 2 pluck her feathers and b viscious. On the whole i think Tigerlily is well behaved and well ajusted and i don't want to do anything to risk that. Ive read all previous posts about taking it slow, keeping them in seperate rooms and doing everything with Tigerlily 1st. any thoughts welcome.

Tigerlily says a few things at the right time but her latest cracks me up everytime. she bites me (not hard) then says "sorry" the thing is i cant remember saying sorry 2 her, mayb once or twice when i've accidently scared her but thats it
