i've often thought of letting tigerlily free fly and have come really close to letting her. boxing day we had a family get together at a church with a large tall hall. so tigerlily had the biggest flying session of her life. every time i "lauched her" she'd fly around then fly to the floor and land(not crashlanding!) NOT ONCE DID SHE RETURN TO ME she got quite tired bless her and after a while she just flew straight down to the floor and she sulked for about an hour afterwards so dont know if she really enjoyed or not but it was a valuble lesson to me and i can safley say that we will NEVER be trying free flying.

I was watching supernanny last night and something she said really touched me. "you can buy your kids all the toys in the world but the thing they want most is your time and that costs nothing" i looked straight over at Tigerlily and knew exactly what she was talking about. Tigerlily has loads of toys both inside and outside her cage but she is the happiest when she is with me.

i have also had the problem with the doors which is now solved. i tried taking tigerlily off the door every time but it got harder and harder to take her off and she'd end up biting me and me getting angry with her. i tried putting towels there then she'd get used to them and fly up anyway. i tried putting netting and fabric up there then she'd get used to them and just hang from those while biting the wires. now i've got table cover material up there and it has been for months now and does the job. i have a door stop so the door is open enough for the cat to get in and out but not open far enough for tigerlily to perch ontop. because the fabric is slippery she cant get a grip to stay up there. but of course, if the door is open even a bit more she'll take every oppertunity to fly up there and perch, even when i'm just walking out the door but thats no problem as i pull the fabric down behind me and she falls of but as she's fully flighted she just flys away and perches somewhere else. no harm done to tigerlily or my fingers or the wires!

i have often thought of getting another grey and have come to the decision that it wouldn't be a good idea. i thought tigerlily might enjoy the company but in reality having another grey would mean i would spend LESS time with her myself cuz my time would be split between the two. i also take tigerlily out and about with me and wouldn't be able to do this as often if i had two. so i've decided getting another grey fro tigerlily to socialize with wouldn't be a good idea. have you considered trying to find another grey owner in you area for "play dates" its something i'm trying to set up and tigerlily did meat another grey once and nearly fell of my lap when the other grey moved :laugh: i also think i wouldn't be able to cope with two greys, ones enogh for me and i wouldn't want to risk my bond with tigerlily by getting another

hi. at the moment tigerlily is very annoying with some sounds she makes. sounds like a child screeming, beeping and clicking all of which are noises she's picked up and as usual doing them twice as loud. i dont think its behavioural as she does it in and out her cage and when shes quite relaxed. they are just like other noises and words but very loud and annoying. she doesn't do it for long enough for me to walk out the room on her. is there a way i can stop her from making specific noises or am i just gonna have to grin and bear it thanks

i work full time and live alone which means tigerlily spends about 9hrs alone, i work shifts so this is at different times of the day. tigerlily usually goes 2 bed around 10pm and she is my alarm clock around 6-7pm and we have a wonderful relationship. in my opinion don't let people say you shouldn't leave greys alone for long periods as long as you give it your full attention when u r home u should b fine.

i've been asked this question a lot and don't really know the answer. could a grey survive in the uk if it escaped and if not why?

i'll have 2 try the harness again if i want her to fly but i doubt we'll ever get there. one thing i've noticed though. i've seen 2 greys on shoulders outside. one might have been clipped (didn't see that close) the other was chained. but both of them looked really nervous cause people just wanted 2 touch them all the time. as tigerlilies in her cage she knows no one can touch her so she seems a lot more relaxed she chats away whilst shes on my back. so here comes the harness training again:unsure:

well i guess that answers that question lol. i guess i'll jusst have 2 carry on dreaming about it lol. these past 2 nights i have actually dreamed about greys lol.

hi guys. i read the other forums and links on there but they don't really help. tigerlily wont take a harness and i would love 2 c her flying outdoors. but i'm scared 2 take that chance incase she doesn't come back through fright, big wind or just take off. i've thought of where i would do it, its a large open quiet space and 2 start with i would just open her cage and ask her 2 fly 2 me from about a meter or so. she's getting used 2 the outdoors with her adventure pack and loves it but i would love to see her flying and think she would like it too. thoughts and opinions

thanks guys interesting to hear your replies lets hope that tigerlily is one that remains active her whole life lol

i'd just like to thank every one, yet again you lot have improved tigerlilies life hugely. after posting this thread and the answers about hanging stuff from the ceiling i finally went ahead and got it sorted and have a few toys and swings hanging and tigerlily is constantly on them. she loves climbing and hanging from them all and i know the quality of her life has improved once again because of this forum {Love-000200C0}

she LOVES it. i think because she has room around it to give her wings a real good flap. but she also loves to hang from things (even upside down!) she also likes climbing right to the top.

i too had a nightmare with flying south i think my order took around 6 months to get to me but i do like the adventure pack, we've just had our 1st holiday with it and tigerlily had the time of her life

Tigerlily is very active and i'm glad tht she is. it stops her from being bored and then feather plucking. but i was wonder if greys "grow up" and wind down with age like we do or do they stay very active their whole lives?

in those pics of her out her cage there's a mosquito net there, wouldn't let her out otherwise can't trust her not to fly away
