1 1/2yrs ago i suddenly had the urge to have a parrot. i don't know why, never had any interest in birds before but for some reason i was drawn to two greys at the pet store. but you had one hell of a price tag on you both, one that i never would be able to save up for so i took my nan with me one day and when she saw that i wanted a grey she offered to pay for you (which took me over a year to pay back). so i spent the next few minutes meeting you both between the cage bars and you both were very friendly and liked head scratches and i was drawn to the grey next to you more, but for some reason, at the last minute i changed my mind and asked to meat you properly. well, you stepped straight up onto my fingers and i was hooked. that day, without doing any reserch my nan paid for you and your cage. a week later after the cage had arrived i brought you home with the free basic care book that came with you as my only sorce of information. i had some quick learning to do but you were very patient with me and we learnt together. i'll never forget teaching you to fly and the first flaps you took. and although you were talking a little i'll also never forget the 1st thing you learnt whilst you were with me, which was an ambulance siren. i then came across this forum which although i was nervous about joining as i'd never been on a forum before, thought it was a good idea and i'm so glad i did as i've learnt so much from it. yes there are times when you push my patience, especially when you refuse to "step up", prefering to give me a little nip instead but i can forgive you for that as you've tollerated so much from me. there were times when i thought you wouldn't cope like the time i unexpectdly went into hospital and my dad had to look after you, who you don't like. apparently it was very traumatic for you and you spent several days out of your cage. and the time when we moved home, i was very nervous as i heard that some greys start feather plucking after moving, but you took it all in your stride and the cat was worse than you. you readily accept new toys and new travel cages and from what i hear that is special indead. i just wanted to say thankyou tigerlily for bringing so much joy into my live, for making me smile when it's the last thing i feel like doing and for making life more bareable. i love you very much and hope we spend the rest of our lives together. love, elaine

WOW. not seen anything like that before! the only problem i see is that tigerlily would just perch on the top rails instead of the perches as she likes to be as high as possible

i switched to using newspaper for my cage lining as a cheaper alternative to some shop stuff which went well for a few months untill tigerlily started tearing it to pieces. she made a right mess (more than usual lol) so i switched back. i don't know anything about egg laying but your grey could just be playing with the newspaper and gets upset when you try and take it away you know how they'll get those beaks into ANYTHING;)

yep. greys don't like new things. i get more excited about a new toy than tigerlily;) with some new toys if i put tigerlily on my shoulder then hold the toy with my mouth she usually tries to get it off me and i don't let her straight away which means she wants it even more, she wants everything mummy has. just a tip which might work but it doesn't work with every new toy annoyingly enough;)

one of tigerlilies favourite perches is on top the TV:evil: and she'll occasionally look down at it as if she really can see whats going on and she'll sometimes look like she's watching the computer especially when i'm scanning your tube for parrot clips. but does she ACTUALLY see whats going on? good question:lol:

wow. thats some dilema you've got there and only you can answer that one. personally my heart would tell me to have the rescue but my head would say the baby. both are going to take a lot of looking after and it's impossible to say if either one will bond to you although in my opinion the baby will be more likley to bond with you. your doing the right thing in reserching before you commit to either and maybe the others can be of more use. can you visit both greys, especially the rescue and see if there's any bond between you?

you know greys, shes TERRIFIED of it

i was scanning the web for some swings and the like seeing as i can now hang stuff from the ceiling and came across a sizzle ball/swing. i almost brought it when i remembered i had some sizzle rope from when i was gonna make some toys some months back but realised i had no idea what i was doing. so i made another attempt and.......

deffinatly trip to the vets. i got tigerlily from a well established and trusted garden centre and tigerlily looked in perfect health but still the 1st thing i did when i brought her home was book an appointment with the vet for my own peace of mind.

thanks heather. when i played it back tigerlily was also facinated with herself, in fact when she sneezed on the clip she then sneezed herself lol. she too also listens to other parrots on youtube, she tilts her head so it's clear she's paying attention.

:woohoo:  :woohoo:    i had to share what just happened:laugh: as always i sit with one foot up on my chair whilst on the computer and tigerlily perches on my knee. we can spend hours like this. well just now she was on my knee as usual, grooming her wing feathers, you know, pulling at them and bringing them round to the front as they do. then...... she fell off:laugh: :woohoo:  but as she's flighted no harm done
