1. hi all it's been a while but i just downloaded some videos i wanted to share http://www.youtube.com/user/elaineandsparky elaine
2. all it is is 3 hola hoops with vet wrap
3. if you want a cheep idea for a bird carrier do what i did for tigerlilies FIRST one. drill a hole in the side of a cat carrier to fit a perch threw and job done! i already had a cat carrier so it didn't cost me a penny! i think the cats a bit put out though cuz shes now stuck with a carrier that has a hole in it
4. when i went to the store there were two greys in cages next to eachother, i was quite taken with the one on the right, gave it scratches through the bars, the one one the left was just intrested in eating! i was just about to ask to see the one on the right when for some reason i changed my mind and went for the one on the left, dont ask me why. tigerlily as she is now known stepped straight up to my finger and i have been in love ever since, i had absolutley NO idea how special it was for a grey to step up straight away onto a total stranger.
5. how could anyone NOT mention northern parrots! lol my one stop parrot shop http://www.24parrot.com
6. i too thought about getting an atom for tigerlily. the only place i have found them is here http://www.motherpluckinbirdtoys.com/ but as you can see they're not exactly cheap!!! then i was just scanning the web and came across this site http://board.birdchannel.com/Topic167992-47-1.aspx so i gave it a try and this is my outcome obviously tigerlily doesn't apprieciate it yet and im gonna hang a toy through the middle but one day she WILL love it

Post edited by: Tigerlily, at: 2010/03/01 21:30

8. in my opinoin yes yes yes yes! i think one of the joys of having a parrot is having it on your shoulder. but of course i go along with all the others about being very careful. she has taken a liking to touching my ear which tickles so makes me laugh so she probably thinks its a game but i am well aware that this could turn into biting. another thing is sometimes tigerlily can go for my face with the intention of biting it hard and has come close to my eye. she quickly gets removed after this. but again these are all things i'll risk to have her on my shoulder, i guess until i come off worse.
9. yes checking the hooks havent unscrew should be a must, her other one DID fall down once from all the spinning but again she fell a bit but mostly flew away. the chain is just from B&Q i brought a few metres and cut it to size, much cheeper than dog leash and can be any length you want, i've used it for a few other things aswell.
10. i took advantage of one of those rare times when i can record tigerlily for more than a few minutes before she flys to the camera or shuts up! hence the reason its 4mins long
11. tigerlily has taken a liking to standing on my radiator whilst its on. now, most of the time it gets for too hot for me to touch for more than a few seconds and i cant believe how long tigerlily stands and messes around on there, its got to be too hot for her hasn't it? my question is, should i be worried? will she get off if it gets too hot for her or can she not make the link between too hot and letting go?
12. she sounds like a very happy bird. and has settled down very quickly compared to some greys. things i would be worried about would be feather plucking and sitting in her cage all day doing and saying nothing. and mabe not eating as normal. that would be the things i'd look out for but my the sounds of it your not going to have those problems as long as you keep doing what you doing.
13. love it tigerlily does this but usually screaches and "says what was all the fuss about" afterwards! tigerlily just loves being upside down
14. i have a toy similar to that but tigerlilies not that interested in it and tends to bite it instead of lick it. couldn't really see the right stuff you are on about but could it be that he is regurtating? didn't see him doing the normal regurtating action but it might be and i wouldn't take it off him myself, he's obviously enjoying himself, anything to keep them quiet for a bit!

Post edited by: Tigerlily, at: 2010/01/31 23:01
15. just remember to not let her in the room before the paint dries unlike i did with the doors! almost straight away we had a trip to the vets to get all the paint off!
16. i was looking at hideaways on northern parrots and am thinking of getting one for tigerlily. what type of hideaways are best. the ones with flat surface or ones that wrap around a perch? does anyone have one?
17. tigerlily has only broken skin twice and i cant blame her for those times. the first was when trying to get a harness on her, the second when i sprayed her and she went for the bottle but got my finger instead. i get more scratches from the cat!
18. when i got tigerlily i must admit i didn't really know what i was letting myself in for:P i took her straight to the vets for a check up and asked her to clip her wings, i thought that was normal. she said it would be best to leave it for a while as she would be stressed out enough with the new home and to see how she did not being clipped but if being flighted was a problem she'd be happy to clip them. I AM SO GLAD SHE DIDNT CLIP THEM i feel strongly that a birds wings shouldn't be clipped althoug i do understand why some people do and respect their decision. whilst learning tigerlily did crash into windows and mirrors and the floor but she soon got the hang of it and realised that she couldn't go through windows and mirrors and learnt how to land. but of course by learning to fly she has become good at it and can be a pain in the backside B) she LOVES flying onto places shes not alowed ie picture frames and tops of doors i'm yet to find a way of stopping the flying onto picture frames which means SHES verry good at saying "tigerlily, get down" you do also have to be careful with open windows and doors, the front door never gets open unless the living room door is shut, ive heard a lot of stories about birds being lost that way and am very cautious about opening windows. saying all that you cant beat the feeling of calling your pet and them flying to you and saying hello when they land. i also know that she likes where she is in the room otherwise she'd just move. i think the only reason to clip wings is if there are too many dangers around the house which cant b solved anyother way
19. i also thought tigerlily would come to me if i let her fly around, that was until she prooved me wrong on boxing day when i let her fly around a large hall. not once did she come to me, always landed on the floor. that was a reality check.
20. yeah i would know her behaviour but what about purely on looks, i still think she has that "look" about her that i could tell her apart but dont ask what that look is
21. i was looking through the thread grey owners what do u look like and lots of you have pics of your grey. most peopole wouldn't be able to tell the difference from one grey to another but i look at them and dont think tigerlily looks like them, shes got a certain "look" about her. would anyone be able to pic their grey out from a crowd? maybe theres some way to try it out on here
22. tigerlily sleeps in the living room and i have only ever inturupted her before she's woken in the morning once but i do wonder if the cat going in and out the cat flap or me going 2 the toilet wakes her. she has only ever fallen asleep with me in the room once and it was sooooo cute. it was late for us 11 or 12 the lights were out and i was listening to a book on a cd, tigerlily was on her perch. i looked over at her and she had her head tucked under her wing looking adorable. back then she slept in her cage so i needed to wake her to put her back but i didn't want to scare her. i quietly walked over to her and wispered her name, she didn't wake so i wispered it again and she woke up and gave me the sweetest look, once again i was in love. so on one hand she can sleep with a lot even me calling her but im still worried she wakes up at night. shes alone for about 11hrs but dont know how much of that shes sleeping for but she seems happy.
23. WHITE and i mean she got it EVERYWHERE including her throat underneath the beak and her bum. she wasn't too impressed with the vet cleaning there!
24. i started painting my doors yesterday morning they are taking 3 layers of paint to do so i planned for tigerlily to stay in her cage all day yesterday and today. but come yesterday evening i felt really guilty that she'd be spending 2 days in her cage, (this is a bird that doesn't even sleep in her cage at the moment) so i put the spray bottle ontop the living room door cuz she doesn't like it but..... i didn't think about the bedroom door! within 5 minutes tigerlily had flown into the bedroom after me and up onto the door and got covered in paint so it was a trip to the vets to get it all off, luckily just took soap and warm water. i'd only been to the vets the day before to have her toes clipped! my vet loves tigerlily though, she's an excotic specialist and says tigerlily is very well brought up, good breast bones and lovley feathers, and very well behaved, she obviously doesn't see her at home
25. yeah i was supprised that tigerlily didn't return to me. she was probably scared as it was a new place and there were other people there but i thought that would be more of a reason to return to me but then again if she was scared she probably landed wherever she could. unfortunatly we wont be able to do it on a regular basis so i'll just have to let her keep dive bombing me at home:)
