1. Haley I feel as you do. I have my two but I think I would be pushing it to get another. Both mine are insured and get the very best diet and I think adding another would mean cut backs on the attention front.I am lucky that both mine are not too needy, but perhaps thats because they get lots of attention anyway.I have an outdoor aviery and it is a very welcome space for them in the summer.I also mind my cousins grey so have the feel of having another larger parrot in the house.I think my grey and little Cracker the tiel are enough for me,unless I win the lottery, get a big house in the country and not have to work.Oh well we can all dream cant we?
2. It has been a nice day hear weather wise.I spent the afternoon in southport.I went for a good watch for my dad who is 80 in a few weeks.I could have got one in Liverpool but in southport there is a jewellers I love having a nose in.Just love all the bling they have. I had to be very firm with myself and just get the watch. I am getting a small bonus in a week or so and I may treat myself to a Radley bag.Make a change from treating charlie and Cracker. No point going for a pair of nice shoes at the moment, I have a lump on my foot and the chiropodist thinks it is a type of cyst that will need removing.I cant get a GP appointment till 2 Feb so I am mad. Oh well if thats all I have to moan about im doing ok.

DNA Results

I bet you are so excited and cant wait till you get your baby home. They are both so cute. You are lucky being able to visit often.Cosmo is a great name.
8. Hi Jacquie and Frodo. I am glad you found us. This is a fantastic place for advise. I am looking forward to hearing more about your adventures with Frodo.
9. I would never bring a bird home that is not weaned. I have a cockatiel who I got at 4-5 weeks old, the breeder told me he was weaned. He was not. Fortunately I realised very fast and got advise and help from my vet. It is not easy to hand feed a bird . I think it is a job for experts, so many things can go wrong. It is also very time consuming, everything must revolve around the baby bird.Cracker is now a very self opinionated 2 year old but I am the first to admit it was more down to luck than judgement. I would not choose to do it again.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/23 19:46
10. Thanks.Charlie looks so cute when he does it, he looks all indignant.
11. Wow nice grey you have there.
12. Has anyone any idea what it means when Charlie puffs out the feathers just round his beak. I have often seen him do this but cant work out its meaning. He does not bite when he does this but at the same time does not seem totally relaxed. He is not puffing out any other feathers at the same time. I am just curious.
13. David that post summs it up perfectley.I have always maintained that although I adore my grey and he is spoilt rottten, he is and always will be a parrot first. I believe that goes a long long way to keeping them happy and content in our unnatural environment.

Granola Bars

Its amazing what ingrediants are in these so called natural, health bars.It pays to look before you eat.
15. Hi dont panic. If he has only taken a bite I should think all is ok.Keep an eye on him by allmeans but I dont think its a major problem.
16. Hello and welcome. It sounds like you have a well socialized out going grey. As others have said this may change as he matures but with lots of time training him some boundries of behaviour problems can be minimum. For now all I can advise as you seem to be doing so well is dont take this good nature for granted, especially with your seven year old.Greys can inflict a nasty bite if they so wish. Also it can only take one mistake or fright and the trust of a grey can be lost for a long time.I hope I dont sound pesimistic, I just want to help the relationship your family have with your grey to stay that way. Good luck and best wishes Sheila

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/22 22:23
17. Your baby is a smart bird. They all start with baby talk but like human children the speach becomes clearer.
18. Hi and welcome. A bird can never be counted on to stay on a cage or stand and needs to be supervised at all times when out.As you have sadley found out dogs also cant be relied on to leave the bird alone. As Dan said the safest solution would be to keep the dogs in another room while the bird is out. Greys and indeed all birds need lots of time out the cage. Please feel free to ask any other questions you wish to help you make your decision.
19. That all sounds like very good news. I am so pleased.
20. I am so pleased with this result.
21. I too think its a good idea to monitor the situation. Perhaps take photos at periods of say one month apart so you have an acurate record of any changes.
22. Welcome John and Jake. My grey loves phone books and paper back books to chew He also has his own pet,my little cockatiel who is in the same room but in his own cage, they do chat to each other and are company for each other when I am at work. Jake is a smart looking grey.
23. Thanks Steph. I am waiting to hear how the little hero gets on.
