I hope I did not come across too harsh in my first post,it was not my intention. We are all willing to help in any way we can.Can I suggest a few books that may help you.One is For the love of greys by Bobbi Brinker. Also try and get a copy of The african grey handbook by Mattie Sue Athen. If you can read some of Barbera Heidenrichs work you will get excellent views on positive reinforcement.

I am glad Scarlett has settled a bit.As you are going to the vets, mention the egg binding questin,he/she will advise. It may also be worth mentioning her out of character behaviour. I hope all goes well at the vets, please let us know how you get on.
18. If he is allowing head scratches it should not be too hard.Try luring him on to your hand with a treat. Hold the hand you wish him to go on to in front of him and offer him a treat with the other hand just in front of it so he must step on to your hand to get the treat.Dont move your hand at first as this may scare him, just hold ot still. Once he is fine with this you can then move your hand slowly so you can carry him on your hand.If this does not work ask him to step onto a stick using the same treat method, gradually moving your hand closer.
19. I have used Gregs techniques and ideas and find them very very good. He gave me some advise when I first got Charlie and it has served us well.I have a couple of his books that I pull out and give myself reminders when I need.I have also been working with Cracker over the summer and he is now far more manageable when out of his cage,so it works for little winged demons aswell.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/10/23 00:02

screaming grey

Please please dont ever punish your grey in any way, they just dont get it. It just teaches them humans do nasty things to them,I cant think of anything worse than putting a social, sensitive grey in a bath tub,I am sorry but this really upsets me.I have a feeling thats why your grey wants to be alone,he has lost all trust in you.

Never punish a grey in any way,it does not work .The screaming has started for a reason as Dan said.Go over the routine you have and look for any changes or have you introduced anything new into the greys environment, cage or your home. Greys can be scared of the most obscure things,my grey took fright when I put a new picture in the living room. Have you placed new toys in the cage or changed your appearance. Please think of any changes at all and treat your grey with sympathy, something may be wrong.
22. I am seriously thinking of adopting Tiggs,He is getting so much abuse. Please let me know when I can pick him up.
