1. Dave, you are just being mean now. We do not look like a bunch of wrinkled up old duffle bags. We are beautiful Louis Voitton handbags. The lines are the natural imperfections of the leather:)
2. Ok Caroline, I will show a picture of the new me if I can see a picture of the new you:laugh: Actually my hair has a reddish base so it really doesn't matter what color I use. After a week the red tint comes back through but the grey doesn't show;)
3. Thanks Marie, I use Loreal and really haven't noticed a smell when I did it but didn't pay that much attention because that was before I had my flock. It is good to hear that others have done it and it was ok. I'm too scared of plastic surgery to ever go through with it even if I had the money. Now Liposuction is another story, but I've heard it is very painful, so I probably wouldn't do that either:S I guess I have to be happy with who I am & how I look and a bottle of hair color does wonders for me:lol: :silly: I will just stick with that. I always said I would go grey gracefully and not ever color my hair but it's not coming in like I wanted it to:angry: If my hair was like Judys I would let it be. That is how I wanted to go grey but nature had other ideas for me:pinch:  I'm not changing to a different color so no drastic change. Just getting rid of the grey.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/12/02 22:53
4. Plastic surgery....:woohoo: Gosh I wish I could:P But I could only afford a bottle of hair coloring:laugh: And Judy, if I had the beautiful color of your hair I wouldn't color it either. Unfortunately, my hair is a strawberry blond (or it was) and now it is just looking so washed out with couple grey splotches:( So, okay, Dave, I will let them watch the process of my "new & improved" transformation so it won't shock them.
5. I'm going grey and not in a good way:laugh: I want to color my hair but don't know if it's safe around the fids. Does anyone know? Or do I just need to stay away from them while the color is on? I love my grey but don't want my hair to be the same color as Baxter:whistle:
6. Hi, you have gotten some great advice from the others above. It is going to take time to gain his trust. Go slow with him. I would start by leaving the cage door open so he can come out of his cage when he wants to. It might take awhile but it will eventually happen. It sounds like he ended up in a better place with you and you sound very concerned about Billy's happiness. It is so nice of you to take him in and hopefully give him a better and happier life. Keep asking questions. There is someone always here to help. I see they have already asked you a few questions in return. The more we know about him the more we can help;)
7. Hello and welcome the forum. Qwynn sounds like quite a character and you flock sounds interesting too. I got my grey first, then added a conure, an eclectus and recently a dyh amazon. We have a full house too. And Judy was right when she said "That's a lot of Poop!" :woohoo: Hope to hear more about you, Qwynn and the rest of your flock. That's a nice picture you posted of her. She looks like a diva:laugh:
8. Hi and welcome to the forum. This is a great place to find out answers to your questions and hopefully make some new friends along the way. I love it here!!!
9. Hello Mark and welcome to the forum. What is your new girls name? Or are you still trying to think of one? Can't wait to hear more about you guys and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
10. Not doing anything but trying to get over this darn cold. Had it since last Thursday and it's knocked me down pretty good. That's why I haven't been on the site the last few days:( Hopefully, it will be gone soon. I don't get sick very often and when I do I don't handle it very well:(
11. Wow! Those photos are amazing! I knew the hummingbird babies were small but seeing the transformation of them then the penny in the nest to compare the size was so surprising. Thanks for showing them. I really enjoyed that.
12. I've noticed in a lot of pet stores in the bird section they have "gourmet" treats that look like pastries and candies, made especially for exotic birds. Toys are always a great idea. Wood perches & rope perches (atleast 1" thick) Extra food bowls are always handy. The list goes on and on. Gosh, this is making me want to go shopping:blink:
13. Thanks Carolyn, I could set a couple more plates for you & Mika:) We are having a honey glazed ham, mashed & sweet potatoes, green bean casserole and apple pie with ice cream for dessert.
14. I would love to give some suggestions:) Can you please tell us a little more about the grey? How long they've had him? Age of the grey? Anything about the personality of the grey would be helpful. I think we can help out better and give better suggestions if we know a little more. I've already got several ideas but will wait till we hear more.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/11/27 00:29
15. I know there are a lot of conflicting opinions on here, especially with an older bird. Baxter was 12 years old when I got him and wasn't sure how quick or slow to go either. I went at his pace. I did teach him the step up in about a week and half after getting him. Once he learned that everything fell into place. He seemed pretty eager to learn so I was lucky on that part of it. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to when to work with him. It depends on the bird itself. You will be able to tell when you are making progress or not. I had a couple times when I wanted Baxter back in his cage in the beginning and I know what kind of nightmare it can be. You will get through it though;) . I also keep the food and water in his cage only. I figured if I left it on top of his cage in the food bowls he wouldn't ever have a reason to go in.
16. I am not sure how to get him back in but you might have to towel him or grab him. When I first got Baxter and he started going out he would stay out all day long without going back in:( I had to grin and bear it and just pick him up off the cage which was not fun. I would start working on step up immediately though. Life is so much more easier when they know the step up command. Once I taught Baxter to step up it was so much more simplier on all of us. I only took about 2 days for him to learn step up real good. I think even he liked it because I didn't have to grab him anymore. Even when he doesn't feel like stepping up I can eventually get him to do it. Good luck to you.
17. Hey Perch, I like that idea. I will have to try that. Thanks for sharing it.
18. Baxter would be the one with fluffy feathers, grabbing his beak with his foot and whistling:whistle: or telling all the other birds to "Shut Up"

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/11/26 04:57
19. Just wanted to let anyone in the metro Detroit Michigan area know that there is going to be a Bird Expo at the Taylor Town Trade Center Expo on December 13th, 2008 in Taylor Michigan. It will be from 10am to 4pm. I went to the last one and it was so fun and interesting. They had all kinds of exotic birds for sale from babies to adults. There will also be lots of accessories for sale too such as bird cages, tons of toys, etc. Even if you are not looking to buy anything it is a great way to spend the day. I just had a great time looking at all the birds. I did end up buying some toys cuz they are soooo much cheaper than the pet stores and I bought a cage too. Everything was much cheaper than if you buy from a pet store. If you are interested in going the address is: 22525 Ecorse Rd in Taylor Michigan. December 13th from 10 to 4. It's on a Saturday:)

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/11/26 04:59
20. Raibow & Tigger sound alot alike personality wise. Tigger is a real sweetie, too. I will hold him and he will just look up at me with those cute beady eyes:laugh: When I talk to him he looks right at me like he is hanging on every word I say. Tigger does the lunges too:laugh: and sometimes a small growl goes along with it and he attempts his little bites too but never presses down hard. This is mainly over food. He loves his food!!! The home cooking that is;) He is probably the sweetest parrot I have. He is just a snuggle bug and will sit with us for hours if we'd let him. Such a mellow, sweet personality. (except when food is involved) Baxter my CAG is hilarious, he has more of the grumpy old man attitude. He says the normal hello, whats that, come on, come ere, and few other normal things but he has added Knock it off and Shut up too. (Got that from me telling my dog to quit barking) When ever Tigger talks Baxter will tell him to Shut up or knock it off. (which is alot of the day) When Bonkers (conure) flies past his cage he will say Come ere Come ere. He doesn't talk alot but when he does it's usually in context. He makes big yawn sounds before his afternoon naps and near bedtime:laugh: And now he does this "old man" whistle all the time. Just like an old man on a porch or out on a walk just whistling no particular tune for long amounts of time. He is so funny. He'd rather do sound effects or whistle than talk which is ok with me. And when I sing to Baxter he does the head bob thing all the time. He only does that for me so I feel very special:) The conure Bonkers is like the little neighborhood kid who wont go home:laugh: Our neighbor found him and brought him over to us. We tried to find the owner for a good month but no luck so we gave him a home. He flies freely through out the house and he is into everything. He robs the food out of the others cages except for Tigger. Tigger won't allow it and Bonkers knows better now. He picked a fight  with Cooper our Amazon who is about 10 times the size of him and was winning the fight. Scared poor Cooper real bad. Cooper the amazon is still in training and we've only had him about 3 weeks but I think he is going to be a real comedian. He has learned to step up real good but we can only pet his beak and now a little bit on the top of his head. I love all of them. I'm so amazed how each one is so different from the others. Sorry I rambled on so long..oops:blink: :pinch:
21. I just seen Rainbows picture. He's beautiful! It's good news his bloodwork came back good so you must be doing something right. Sometimes I think I over analize the diets too...He loves fresh fruits and veggies (and of course the seeds/nuts) so I am hoping with all the fresh stuff he gets he will stay healthy. Hey, is Rainbow a good talker? My ekkie is the best talker out of all my birds which I was quite surprised by but he talks all day long. I love it. Just wondering if yours talks alot, too. Tigger will out talk my grey & amazon any day of the week.
22. I was just about to give my opinion then seen Dans post about how old this thread was. I'm sure after 6 years they have made their choice:laugh:
23. I'm stalling for time. Today I am suppose to be giving the house the thorough cleaning to get ready for the holidays, get the tree & decorations organized but surfing the grey forum instead:whistle:
24. Congradulations! I am so impressed with your ingenuity. I would have never thought to have set some time aside for screaming and being loud. It even sounds fun. I can picture you guys yelling and dancing and having a blast. Great idea.
25. I'm having a space problem, too:laugh: I have Baxter & Tigger up in the front room. Bonkers was in there too but we moved him in the extra bedroom. He can still see us fine there and I actually think he likes it in there. He even goes and spends time in or on his cage since we put it in there:silly: Since he goes where ever he pleases I don't feel bad about him being off in another room. He spends most of his time on Baxters cage or on the boing anyway, but now he's goes to his cage too. I think he likes having his own room:) Cooper is in the dining room where we have to pass by alot so we get to talk to him alot as we pass by it. It's hard to just walk on by and not stop and say hi to him. I have always wanted a macaw since I got Baxter but my husband thinks they are too big and he's fearful of those huge beaks. I don't blame him on that one. Even tho I've hit my limit I might still end up with one of them, too. I dont see it in the near future though but maybe one day. I can dream anyway:P
