I have read that alot also. They need to step up on command (every time) but I am wondering if anyone has a grey that will step up every single time they are asked. Baxter usually steps up for me but there are times he just doesn't want to also. I figure he's entitled to his opinion too so I don't force it, unless it is necessary...then I use the strict stern voice and he eventually submits. But no he doesn't step up for me every time. I have had him since July and he has gotten so much better. I'd say he steps up for me atleast 90% of the time now. For awhile when he was up on his cage and I wanted him to step up for me, he wouldn't do and go to another area of his cage on top:angry: ....He was higher than I was and guess felt a little superior so I would have to get a chair and stand on it to get him. That worked every time for me. I guess he knew I was serious then and stepped right up then, kinda like "Why didn't you say so" . But when he went through his time when he didn't want to...I had to get the chair. I seem to be doing much less of that now, thank goodness:)

Ok, if you insist:woohoo: We had family night with toy making and Here is one my husband made. It's called "Firemen on a Rope" You can also use cowboys and indians or army men. They can be found in the kids toy section of any store. Just tie them to the string and hang. I was quite surpised that was a favorite with all my fids.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/11/22 02:31

I used to work in a vets office and you would be surprized how many homeless people would bring their pets in for their shots or general health care. It is sad but they also bring hope to their owners and sometimes give them the will to live. They are the pride and joy of their lives. I was also amazed at how good of care they take care of their pets. I will say a prayer for all the homeless people with their pets this year. Thanks for sharing the story.

Baxter my grey was the only one who didn't like it. He has more simple taste and doesn't like all the bells and whistles on things so I just made him one with wood blocks and rawhides which was more to his liking;) Tigger thought it was the best thing ever though!!!

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/11/21 22:30

Ok, here is something that I created yesterday. It is made of several different kinds of wood blocks (some I had to drill myself) a plasic food container lid, several plain rawhides (died in food coloring), some party favor airplane propellers (I only used the propellars) brightly colored soft fleece material, some craft sticks and couple acrylic dangly key chains. I strung all the pieces up, cut a few holes in the plastic lid to hang the fleece and the dangles from, put a couple more wood blocks on top and walah! It's a whatchamacallit.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/11/21 22:32

Yep, we can't play favorites now can we? Atleast that's how it is at my house. If one gets time, attention or goodies, the others feel left out untill they it some too. Cracker is beautiful!!! And he struck quite a good pose for you, too.

Sarge is a cutie. We are owned by a nanday conure and he keeps us so entertained too:laugh: .

Great picture Roger & Great looking kids. That looks like it was a really good day and fun outing. The weather looks gorgeous, too.

That's a great picture. You should enter it in the new Holiday contest that just got started. One category is for a fall scene. It's definately good enough. Lyric looks great against the colors of the leaves.

Great news that Paco is home with you. Sounds like he is settling in pretty good, too. Especially if he is talking already. Hope the bad words aren't too bad. Maybe he will forget them in time. I got my grey when he was 12 years old last July and he doesn't hardly say any of the words that he came with anymore. Hopefully, the will drop the bad language but will probably continue if he hears it from you guys, too. Keep us posted on him and I can't wait to see some pictures.

Marie, that looks like Baxters pile of feathers about a month ago:ohmy: I totally freaked out. I had seen a feather here or there occassionally but all the sudden there was a pile and I thought the same thing. Baxter is plucking:ohmy: I asked everyone here too and they all told me "He's molting:P " Whew I was so relieved thats all it was!!! Scared the tar out of me though:laugh: Now Baxter likes head scratches more than ever. I guess a good head & neck rub make him feel better now that the new feathers are coming in. I wouldn't worry too much.

Congradulations. They day is almost here. I bet you are getting anxious for Pacos return now. Your vet was right. Pellets should be a big part (about 65-75%) of Pacos diet on a daily basis. They contain so much nutrients that our birds need to keep them healthy. Sometimes you have to try different brands to see which ones like best. It's always a good idea at a bird store to ask for samples that way you can try small amounts out on them to see if they like it. Not all places offer samples but many do. Keep us updated on Paco's arrival. This is so exciting.
