I read somewhere on the forum that Dave didn't have any hair:laugh: Seriously, tho, the aloe vera worked Fanstastic for me. Let me know what you think when you try it.
-
Oh my goodness, you are getting a macaw too! Double congradulations. Are they both coming home to you at the same time? This forum even has an "other birds" section because many of us have more than greys on here and it's a great room to go discuss our other flock members. Please post some pics when you can. We love to see photos here, too.

Hi and welcome to the forum. You must be so excited about getting your grey. This is a great place to learn more about greys and just chat with other grey owners. As you can already tell there are quite a few members here from the UK. Keep us posted on your new babies arrival.

Atleast once a week I take Baxter to the shower with me to give him a real good soaking. After he is soaked I spray him down real good with the Aloe Vera juice to help his skin out. They make his feathers so pretty and soft. Today after doing this to him I thought Why not try it on my hair and see what it does???:woohoo: I sprayed it directly on my freshly shampooed and conditioned hair and styled as usually. My hair has never been so soft and shiney. I love it!!! My hair is very thick and very coarse I have to use something to make it more managable. I always use a good conditioner but today I found out that Aloe Vera is better than any condition I have used yet!!! I have not tried it spraying without using the conditioner yet. All I know is this is the softest my hair has ever been. I will do this regularly now. Just thought I would share that with everyone cuz I was really amazed with the results. Has anyone else tried it?

That is a very good point Dave. We took in a lost conure last Augest. We did post several online ads, called various pet stores, vets & animal rescues would have given him back to his original owners if they would have come forward but I was not going to take him to the vet and pay money to see if he was microchipped or not. So I guess you kept the parrot? We did:)

I think if we did have a power outage I would load up my flock up and head to the motel:laugh: Wouldn't that be a sight...4 birds, 1 cat and a dog:woohoo:

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/12/17 03:22

Baxter is a pretty dull boy himself but still mentally he is sharp as a tack. He is a thinker. And when I try to catch something on video, he knows that too, as soon as the camera is on, he stops everything and either tries to beak the camera or sit like a statue and not move:laugh: So I know how hard it can be to get something cute on tape. We will be patient though.

Oh yes, you will get lots of input here. Thats why we are here:) , something is bound to work for you with all the answers you get. I know I said I would probably leave him this time but since he is used to traveling anyway and if you think he may be up to the trip, then take him along. He might be okay because he has you and Boozle there with him. If you think he is doing good and settling in good, perhaps it may be best to take him. It might even help you worry less while you are gone. I don't see any harm in taking him unless he was a wild frightened grey. Let us know what you decide.

He is a wonderful looking grey! Very handsome indeed! Thanks for sharing them with us.

I think I would leave ChaCha home with Boozles this time mainly because he is new to your home and settling in so well. He might not ready for an outing. It might upset him if he isn't used to traveling yet. Besides, ChaCha must be used to Boozle by now and they probably he will be fine knowing Boozle is there with him. And it sounds like you have a good friend that is willig to help out and they will be in good hands. Try not to worry too much while you are at your Family Gathering. I love the picture of ChaCha. He's a great looking grey.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/12/17 02:38

That is so neat. I bet you were shocked when you started hearing the rhymes. I know I would be. It wouldn't surprise me if she knows what she is doing. They are such smart birds. I would encourage it as much as possible. I would love to see some videos of it if you can catch it on tape.

That's wonderful news. Hopefully they will make friends fast and sounds like they are. I think when birds gets together they can learn from each other. I think they like each others company, too. I wouldn't consider Baxter and Tigger friends but when one starts talking or making noises the other one just has to join in. Now, poor bunny...mabye he needs a new friend to play with too and not feel out numbered;)

Hi Leanne, that is so nice you took him in and are keeping him safe while trying to find his owners. A few other good places to get the word out is local vets, pet stores and humane/animal rescues. Also you can post free ads on www.craigslist.com www.oodle.com & www.kijiji.com They are nationwide and have special sections for birds, usually for sale but lost ones are put up there, too. All you have to do it put it in your local area/big city. Good luck finding the owners. I'm sure they are worried sick. If not, it sounds like you have a nice grey there and you can join us here on the forum:) We took in a lost conure last Augest and put ads up all over online, contacted several vets & pet stores and drove neighborhoods but no one came forward. This little guy was super tame too and I felt so bad for who ever lost him:( as I'm sure he was their pride and joy. So he is still with us.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/12/17 00:15

My greys name originally was "Homie" i liked Homie but my husband hated it. We had him a few days, maybe a week and I walked up to his cage and looked at him and the name "Baxter" immediately popped in my mind. It was like a light bulb went of HaHa:laugh: And now he is Baxter and I think it is a perfect fit for his personality. Every now and then he will still say Homie. Usually when I remind him of it and call him that. He hasn't forgotten it. He whispers "Baxter" but does not say it loudly.

That was a great question and something I am always concerned about to. And Thanks LindaMary for checking with the vet. I didn't realize they'd be okay in that cold of temps but it is good to know and I feel better now. Last year we had a power outage due to an ice storm too but I didn't have my birds at that time. I've been worrying that something like this might happen this year too. I am relieved to know that they could probably tough it out with me if it should happen again (but I hope it doesn't

Hello Caitlin, Slater and the rest of the flock. Welcome the family. It sounds like you have a great love of animals. I can see why you got so attached to Slater though. Greys are so amazing and so smart. Congradulations on going to school to become a vet. Perhaps you can help us here later on:laugh: Are you also going to study avian vet practices? This is a great place to be and if you do have any questions about your grey or other birds there are many knowledgable members here to help but I have the feeling you are quite knowledgable yourself and might be able to help us out too:laugh: Its a great place to just share grey stories, too. We all love to talk about our greys here. Hope to hear more from you soon. Please be sure to check out our other rooms here too.

I got the emails, too, Got them so regular I unsubscribed too. Another member said they tried them but their grey didn't act like the bird in the video...like the bird in the video was responding and paying attention but in real life our birds don't always do that;) I have never tried any videos myself. I'm not against them but have never heard any success stories. If I knew they worked I would get them and try.

I think it would be more stressful to catch him to get him out. He is already terribly afraid of people and it will only make things worse if you handle him like that by grabbing and forcing him out. He is going to scream and bite and do what ever he can to get away and that would only give him more reasons to be fearful. I would go at his pace and it will take some time and as Judy said breeders don't make very good pets and it will be a long time to get him where you want him. In some cases I've heard they will never become tame. I wouldn't push him at all for the first several months of him begin there. Its just going to take time. How much is not known. It all depends on you and the Roscoe;)
-
Thats what I do too, Lyric. It seems much easier than using photobucket or one of the others. I resize mine to 17%

Hello FurNFeathers and Roscoe! Welcome to the family. First I would like to say it's great that you took in a rescue and are willing to spend the time it needs and give it a chance to live a happy life. The only advice I could give is and I'm not sure if it will work but try to clean the cage with him in it and change toys out with him in it. Will Rosco allow this? I know when I brought my grey home that is one of the biggest ways we bonded~with me having my arms in his cage and switching the toys out and not paying any attention to him at all, I would just rearranging his perches, toys etc. My grey was not an ex breeder but was not handled by people so he didn't really like anyone getting too close at the beginning but he did get really really curious when I would do things to his cage and act like I didn't even see him in there. After a few times he realized that I wasn't going to bother him or scare him and I think he enjoyed me messing around in his cage. Like I said I don't know if it will work or not since he is pretty scared of people but it might be worth a try. Good luck and keep us posted. There are lots of knowledgable members here on this site and I'm sure someone with more experience will be able to help you more on this. Karma to you for taking in an older grey:)

Fred sounds like she is just a doll and sounds like you got her from some amazing people to have her so well rounded when it was time to go to her new home. I am very glad for you and you seem to be doing everything right and makeing a perfect parront.

Penny, you should be thanking Talon;) That look is in right now and people pay lots of money to have their hair styled like that. Maybe you could take appointments for her and put her to work as a hair stylist:lol: :silly: .
