peanuts

That was the answer I was hoping for to:) I don't think my flock would appreciate being without their peanuts. It's one of their lifes "pleasures":woohoo:

peanuts

I just bought a very small bag of human greade roasted "out of the shell" peanuts from an organic food store. Shouldn't these be totally safe?
3. Thanks for the great link. Switching a greys diet can be tough and this link will be very helpful. And as Judy said, that's what we do here. We ask our questions and we share what we know & learn. Everyone contributes and we all learn along the way:)
4. From what I've heard and read Kale and Collard Greens are safe to feed to greys in a well balanced diet. Kale is rich in vitamin A,E & K. Collard Greens are rich with Vitamin A, C, pottassium and calcium. I have found these on several safe vegetable lists but if you are unsure it is always best to ask your vet. And as for Kimberlys response to the Whole Food Store, I am so glad I found this place and was so excited to tell everyone about it. They even list the nutrients in each one where you get it at. And I don't think you can beat the price or freshness of it unless you are growing it yourself:) Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/07 03:25

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/07 05:26
5. Hi Lauren and welcome to you and Pax both. You have come to the right place if you are looking for other grey lovers. We love to chat about our precious greys and want to know about everyone elses too. Look forward to hearing more from you.
6. Toni, I hope this surgery works good for you and takes away the pain. I don't know all the details of your accident but know you've been through a lot from some of the posts I've seen. You get better soon and take the time you need to heal. You are in my thoughts and prayers as well. {Love-000200BF}
7. After going from 0 parrots to 4 parrots in the last 6 or 7 months I don't plan on getting any more this year. But who knows what 2010 will bringB)
8. This is what it looks like all mixed together. And it all cost less than $5.00.
9. Thanks Mjames for the additional list. It is very helpful:) Well, I went to the Whole Foods Market today!! I really liked it. I didn't go overboard although it could have been real easy to do:woohoo: with their great selection of seeds & nuts, etc. I thought I'd try just a few things to see how it would go over with them. I got a few different items. Each thing I picked was different weights but all about what would fit into a large coffee cup or mug. .42 lbs of Oranic Pumpkin Seeds $3.99 per pound, my cost $1.68 .41 lb of Organic Golden Flax Seeds at $1.99 per pound, cost my cost 82 cents. .25 lb of Oranic Dry Roasted Peanuts (no shell) at $3.99 per pound, my cost $1.00 .43 lb Oraganic Buck Groats at $1.39 per pound, my cost 60 cents, .17 lb of Raspberry N' Cream Granola @ 3.99 per pound, my cost .68. I mixed it all up and gave my birds about a teaspoon each and they ate every bit of it. They really enjoyed it all so I am pleased. There wasn't anything they didn't like. I did want to get them some sesame seeds too but they were out of them. Maybe next time. Here is a picture of they different things I got. Quanity size it ended up being about 6 or 7 large coffee cups so it was a good amount when all mixed up and I think it costs much less than the seed mixes I got at my pet store, it's prettier to look at and better for them since it's all organic. I paid less than 5 dollars for everything and if I got it at the pet store think I would have paid atleast $10.00 for it easily. I like doing it this way especially since I can choose which seeds and nuts I would like them to have. They had a good selection of nuts too but they were very pricey but I will get some of them next time too. This was just the trial run and I am very impressed! 10. My husband loves our birds. He even had a parakeet that he let fly freely when I met him. I was the one who could care less about birds and never thought I would be a bird person untill I decided to get Baxter. He was my birthday present from my husband because that's what I said I wanted:) I knew I would love him from the start but wasn't sure how much interest my husband would have in him. Well, 3 birds later..total of 4 now:blink: My husband loves them all and we both spend lots of time with all of them. When my huband sits down to watch a football game or movie, he grabs the varios perches we have, gets them set up with "munchies" and tells me they are having a party:laugh: Sometimes I will walk in the living room to find him sitting with all 4. Baxter will bite my husband every time now if he asks him to step up. He is the only one who bites him:( but my husband still goes and pets him, talks to him and gives him snacks. They both seem to be happy with their relationship with each other and both accept each other and like each other. We used to have a pretty boring life because we didn't go out much or do much socializing and now we have quite the intersting life and are always amused with them. Never a dull moment around here:lol: :silly:
11. Thanks Lisa, yes, Warren is the city next to where I live. About 5 to 10 minutes away depending on which side of town its on. Yea:woohoo: This is going to be fun. Thanks a bunch!!! Karma to you for being such a great help!!! I'm excited now:woohoo: :side: :silly:
12. I appreciate the list too. I don't care if it was cut and pasted;) I would like to go make my own seed mix. A "Whole Food Store" was mentioned. I don't think i have ever been to one. How would I find a Whole food store? I'm ready to go but have no idea where to go cuz I don't know where one is:S
13. You said your greys behavior changed after you moved and then after your husband was deployed. Even though she was not close to your husband that might have been a big part of it. She might not care that he is gone for awhile but I'm sure it has affected you emotionally. I'm sure you are missing him and obviously worried about him while he is away serving our country. Parrots are very empathetic and they can pick up on our moods so well. She may be feeding off your emotion and perhaps worried about you or can feel the tension. I am not sure if you are worried or stressed or sad or anything else but greys can pick up on those as well as happy, excited and engergetic. Your behavoir has most likely change somewhat since you are living in a new place and without your husband. The enviornment has changed and your grey has too to some extent. Keep trying to reassure her and let her know she is loved and hopefully she will come back around to her old self. Laugh with her, play with her, be happy around her and just relax and have fun with her again. And as Dave pointed out she is getting older and perhaps less dependant on you and your attention. It may just be part of her growing up stages, too. Just curious, has your husband come back from his tour yet? If not, hopefully soon.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/05 05:22
14. That was a great idea you had! And nope, it isnt noticable at all. I'm just glad Tobie is ok and you cared enough to trouble shoot the problem. Tobie is lucky to have you. Your house is beautiful. I love the mission style you have going on in there, the antique cabinet and the Royal Doulton? figurines. Very nice
15. {Feel-good-0002006E} Sorry Judy.
16. I got married on Friday the 13th and it will be 10 (good) years this Augest:)
17. I guess you could look at it that way. It's the slurp, slurp, slurp noise that gets to me though:sick:
18. It's good that you realized it and found a way to compromise. Now maybe he will get to enjoying it again with the lactose free milk:)
19. As long as the milk is free of lactose it is fine. Rice milk and soya milk can be feed safely to your grey.
20. I would love to put videos on youtube. I have plenty of movies shorts from my digital cameras that I would love to share but can't get them up on youtube. I am wondering if it is what we are working with. First off I use DSL which is fast enough for me in everything else I do on the computer but according to the "Slowski" commercials is slower than most. We have 2 digital cameras. Mine takes very clear excellent quality 3 to 4 minute movies. I tried posting a 20 second clip on youtube and 2 hours later it was still uploading:( so I gave up on it. With my camera, I can not even email my movies to friends because they say they are too large. I can also only get three or four of these videos on a disk and it wont' hold anymore My husbands camera takes a little bit less quality movies but still clear, just not as clear as mine. He can fit about 15 videos on a disk when he downloads them to disk and he can send them in emails too. We have not tried to download his videos on Youtube yet so I am not sure if his would go through quicker. I am just wondering if there are any tips about downloading and how long should normally take to upload a 2 or 3 minute video? Will it be impossible for me to even try since I have DSL ? (it's a landline through my phone but not dial-up) Is it my camera? Is it the DSL? Do I need to upgrade my internet connection to cable or something? And for those who do it..How long does it take you guys to get your videos up? I would really like to get into this century and start posting some videos. Please help!!

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/04 21:24
21. I find it fascinating what you do but know I could never handle something like that. It does look trecherous but on the show it seems like there is a brotherhood amongst the guys. I noticed the crab fishermen only go out for about 3 weeks. That seems like it would be bearable and perhaps kind of fun but not being on dry land for months at a time would be tough. Well atleast you are retiring and get to be on the dry land more now and can spend more time with us talking about or feathered friends. It seems you have some friends on here from way back and they are thrilled to have you back. Looks like you have been missed. I look forward to getting to know you better.
22. Confession, my little dog does it too if I don't get there quick enough and it drives me crazy!!!! I only have one cage where this is a problem because it doesn't have seed guards on it. My other cages with seed guards catch the poop when it falls. Do you have seed guards on your cage? I don't know how well they catch the seeds but they are great at catching the poop:woohoo:
23. We have 1 Grey Tabby Cat ~Miss Kitty 1 Maltese Terrier ~ Jackson 1 African Grey ~ Baxter 1 Nanaday Conure ~ Bonkers 1 SI Eclectus ~ Tigger 1 DYH Amazon ~ Cooper
24. Well no wonder I don't have any money:ohmy: I haven't been planting nasturtiums. But I will now and I will hold you to the money thing:lol: :silly: :woohoo: Thanks for the list. I will use it:) . It is very helpful. Now I am ready to plant but our ground is frozen:( Guess I have to wait awhile:whistle:
