1. Those are adorable pictures and gorgeous tiels:) I liked that you introduced them individually and gave us an idea each of their personalities. Makes me want some tiels now:woohoo: Thanks for sharing them with us.
2. I got a DYH a couple months ago. I really enjoy him. I have a grey also and they are totally different. The amazon is not as sweet or affectionate as the grey but he is friendly with us and a total clown, always active and playing. He loves attention and loves to interact with us but he doesn't like to be petted much, as a matter of fact he does not allow us to even touch his feathers down his back. He does allow head scratches late in the evening. Our amazon is very vocal and loves to make all kinds of noises like laughing, crying, singing. He is a talker too, but is still young and has a fairly small vocabulary right now but picks up new words or sayings very fast. He is definately not a quiet bird but I love his noises. He is very active most of the time and quite the acrobat. If we are quiet here in the house he is usually quiet too but if we get him going he loves to makes his noises. I have found him very interesting and so fun to have around. He keeps me laughing all day long. He does some of the craziest things and I can't help but laugh. If I start talking to him or make laughing sounds he will talk or laugh back at me. He is quite the conversationalist. He has brought a lot of joy to us but he does require alot of attention. Toni was right about them having about them being stubborn too, atleast our is. Once he gets something in his mind there is no stopping him. I wouldn't recommend a dyh for apartment living due to noise factor.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/30 19:16
3. Kimberly, that is one heck of a bite. Ouch!!! My eclectus gave me one similar to that on my bottom lip when I first got him. He didn't break the skin but he left a red v mark in the shape of his beak kinda like the one you are wearing;) . It was like a blood blister almost. So I know the pain you are in. I used lots of lipstick for about a week to cover it up:laugh: Hope it heals soon for you.
4. Hey, thanks for the info! I know what you mean about reading the ingredients on the packaging. It can be pretty scary sometimes. I haven't heard of Tops yet but will check it out.
5. That is great news! Yes, they key to it is to be persistant and try different ways. I know how frustrating it can be but it's a great feeling when you see them start to eat their pellets. Congrats:)
6. Oh that looks like my Tigger:) He's an SI Eclectus too and he loves his food!!! That's a great photo.
7. I hope he is going to be fine. It sounds like he is doing much better aleady. Keep us posted.
8. Happy HatchDay to Cloe!! My how time flies. We need a picture of the young lady now:)
9. I like them all of course but was very impressed with the "artsy fartsy" feather photos. (Say that 10 times real fast) I'm into art like that too. My favorite of Annabella is the spread wing.
10. Hi and congradulations of getting your baby boy soon. I'm don't have a name to offer yet but will think about it:) and add one later. I was wondering when you would be bringing him home? I'm sure you are so excited right now. Congrats again.
11. Oh Berna, that is such sad news for both of the birds:( I don't know if I could bear to send one of my babies that I raised to someone who had just killed another one. That would be heartbreaking. I couldn't image after one dying to send another one to the same household/death chamber. If she does end up getting it I would go directly to the girls house and sit down with her and give her some lessons in parrot care. I'm so scared for the baby now:( Can't imagine how you are feeling. Maybe you can pass along this website, too. Let us know what happens.
12. I got an amazon a few months back. He is so much fun! Didn't know what to name him so we picked out a few ourselves and asked everyone else for their ideas. Then had a naming contest for him with the top names we liked. The vote came in and his name is now Cooper. I love the name and it wasn't even on our original list. I would suggest having a contest to name him/her if you are undecided. It was exciting for us when we did it.
13. She is the only pet that was totally mine that I have raised from a baby. It is a huge loss for me but I knew it was going to happen. We had a good life with great memories:) I found her this morning in my office which is not her usually sleeping place and I put her in a box untill we could take her to the vets. (Can't bury her with our sub freezing temps here:( ) But my dog Jackson picked up the scent where she was laying (I couldn't smell anything but I guess he could) and he got all worried looking. He went searching the house and kept looking at me. Then he went to my husband and wanted him to follow him. He walked a few steps and waited for my husband to follow him and then he took him to the spot where she passed. It's amazing how they know when something happens. Since he was so worried I did show him Miss Kitty in the box and he looked at her and then he gave my hands a few licks as if to say "I'm sorry" but I could tell he understood. After I showed her to him and told him what happened he has not went back to that spot. I'm sure my dog is sad too cuz they were friends and she was already with us when we got Jackson as a puppy. I did feel robbed when the vet said what she had was terminal because she was only 11 years old and I thought I would have her atleast untill she was 15 or 16:( I am going to make a huge display and put all my favorite pictures of her. She was very photogenic and I have an amazing collection of her pictures to remember her by. Thanks again for all your kind words, thoughts and prayers. Big hugs to all of you, too.
14. Congradulations on your new addition! I had no idea either that you were going to get another bird. How did you come about it? I'm sure he will thrive under your care. Can't wait to see some pictures, too. What's his name?
15. Wow, it looks like he is having a blast with those. They must interesting to our feathered friends. I guess I am going to have to go out and get some too:) Those are very nice pictures.
16. Thank you everyone. It really helps to know that you guys are there for me. I know Miss Kitty was not just a plain old tabby cat. She was so special. My mom had a tabby cat when I was growing up and I bonded with that one as well. There is something special about tabby cats. I don't think I would have anything else. Gosh, I really miss her already. I was so lucky to have the extra time with her and it did give me time to prepare but just like with people, you can prepare all you want but when it comes down to it, you really aren't. I am so glad that we went ahead and spent the money 8 months ago to "see" if she could pull through it even when the doctors thought otherwise. It was a terminal condition and I didn't think I would have as much with her as I did. It really meant alot to me that she made it through Christmas. It's starting to really hit me now. Earlier I thought I was handling it pretty good but as the day goes on it's getting worse.
17. Thank you. Yes she is in a better place. I do find some comfort that she did not suffer and she went easy. That was important to me. It's just going to be tough without her. She was my baby:( I know she was just a plain Tabby cat but I thought she was beautiful.
18. Some of you may know that I have a cat named Miss Kitty. I have her since she was 4 weeks old and this year she would be turning 12. Last June of 08 she got really sick and we rushed her to the emergency vet (after hours & only thing open on weekend) where she was diagnosed with kidney failure. The outlook was very "grave" as they put it the paperwork and they told us that she was not likely to survive but a few days and 2 weeks at the very most. At that point we had 2 options, we could spend a few thousand to try for a miracle and put her in intensive care or put her to sleep. Of course I was crying and grieving at this news. I wasn't expecting it to look so dim. I didn't want her to suffer so I told them I thought it would be best to go ahead and put her down but I wanted to see her one more time. They brought her back in the room and she was rubbing me and purring as if to say "I'm not ready to go" and that's when I made the decision to try for that miracle even knowing that she probably wouldn't make it much longer. I gave her the "talk" and told her to fight and she could do it through so many tears. She was in intensive care on IV's for 3 days and they said there was improvement but it we were fooling ourselves if we thought she would recover. So we took her home and made an appointment with our vet and kept her monitored. We had to give her shots 3 times a week for anemia and we also had to give her IV fluids under the skin every day. She did get off the shots after about a month but the fluids under the skin we had to do till the very end. The bright side was she did very very good. She got back to her old normal self and still a happy cat. It was almost like she was fine but we knew she had a limited time with us. Every now and then she would have days where she would be more tired than normal but that was to be expected. The doctors gave her only a few weeks at best but we torn off 8 months of calendar pages. I was thrilled when Miss Kitty made it through this holiday season. I couldn't have asked for more. A few days ago I seen her take a turn for the worse but she was still eating and drinking but I knew the end was near. We had actually decided that we needed to take her to the vet today and possibly putting her down but Miss Kitty died in her sleep last night. In my mind she was the best cat ever and she will be so missed. She was my constant companion for the last 12 years. This is one of her last photos just a few weeks ago at Christmas. She still looked healthy and happy. Her being here with me this Christmas was the best present I could have asked for.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/15 17:42
19. I think Pax will be on the road to recovery now:) Please keep us posted.
20. We have a bird club near my house that meets once a month and brings their birds but I am in Michigan. Try doing an internet search and see if there are in Bird Clubs in your area.
21. I already had a regular postal scale that weighs in pounds and grams at my house when I got Baxter (and other flock members) I just put my birds on the postal scale. Of course it doesn't have the T perch on top but it only costs about $10 to $15. You can get them at the post office or office supply stores. I just set them on that one and it works just as good since it also weighs in grams. They don't care if it has a T perch or not and they aren't afraid of stepping on the flat surface:silly: Mine looks very similar to the one that Kimberly posted above but more rectangular and no T perch. I take my birds in the shower with me atleast once a week and get them good and soaked down to the skin. I have aloe vera juice too that I spray on them after the shower. Since the feathers are somewhat waterproof it takes a lot of juice to get the feathers saturated and thats why I do it after their shower. If they have dry itchy skin or dander the daily light surface spray probably won't go down far enough to moisturize their skin. I would try to get the skin soaked some how.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2009/01/13 23:19
22. Hip Hip Horray!!! Hip Hip Horray!!! {Characters-0002005C}
23. It didn't take too long for him to work his way into your heart now, did it? I am so glad to hear things are going so wonderful for you. You have done wonders with Ice and doesn't even sound like the same bird you came home with just a short time ago. I think he has found his forever loving home with you. Thanks for the update.
