  1. Outside the place that I work they have a few Washington Hawthorn trees, they are covered in bright red berries. When I saw them, I thought, "Hey, I wonder if the TAGs would like these?". But, I want to make sure they are not poisonous for birds. I read online that regular native birds use them as food, but the seeds are poisonous to humans. (Also the berry itself is very good for your heart, btw). Anyone know anything about these berries and TAGs?
  2. I actually still feed my two TAGs the formula a couple times a week so that they are always a little used to it. It makes giving them medications easier in the future. And its got all the right nutrients in it. My female attacks the formula like she is starving. She gets so messy, i swear she sticks her face in up to her eyes. The boy just pecks at it and takes little tiny bites.
  3. Oh yes, the sneaky back poop. Here is something I just thought of. We had someone watching our birds because we had to go back home for a family emergency. Well, the two Sun Conures together can be trouble, they work at a team. He had them both out and they decided to crawl up to the top of his head. well it was right away in the morning. So he got two morning bombs down the back of his head....
  4. Yes I agree, Saphira does it when I first bring her out of her cage, she does that and then rubs her head all over my hand.
  5. I do not usually let most of my birds on my shoulder. But they always insist on trying to get there, our male Sun Conure has a big time finger nail fettish, and I have learned to take my ring off before I handle him. But every time I bring him out he like to make a run for my shoulder to get my ear ring. Now my female TAG is not interested in jewelry, if she wants to go on my shoulder i sometimes let her if I am sitting down. She is pretty clumsy (in the wild I do not think she would have lived to be an adult. After we got our male TAG, i can really see it. both of there wings are clipped but he can still fly for a short distance where she has the flight of a rock. and when he perches he holds on, where she does not even hold on with her feet she does not even really wrap her feet around my finder she stands with her back toes somewhat straight out.
  6. Thank you for your replies. I will try misting them this weekend.
  7. I was looking into these bird food recyclers, as we all know the cost of that stuffis not cheap, but there is no way i would do it if there is any chance of contaminated food. http://www.bird-zerk.com/
  8. I may have went a little wild when I got the 40" cage, it is taller than me with the toy hook. My little TAGs look so small in it, but i wanted to make sure they had room to stretch.
  9. Here is my cage (it is a picture from the website) I will have to get a picture of the actual cage next time i break out the camera. https://www.kingscages.com/cages/cages-economy/model-elp-4030/prod_52.html Also we have the black and grey cage

  11. I am sorry, I am sure there are a few posts on this already... My older Grey just hates baths, but I see her scratch her head all the time if I do not bathe her. I was wondering if it is any help to maybe bring them in the bathroom with me when I take my shower so they at least get a steam bath. Then maybe after some time, I can try bringing her back into the shower again. I think it is my fault as to why she hates baths. I am disabled and the very first time I took her into the shower with me, she did not seem totally against it. Of course I did not directly spray here with the shower water (the shower at our old place had tremendous pressure, I was afraid it would hurt her). But anyway, the first time I took her in, I slipped (because I am stubborn and do not like asking people to help me physically) as I was getting out of the shower and it scared her pretty good. I want her skin to be healthy, but I also do not want to traumatize her. EDIT: Since the shower, I have tried getting a small tub and putting a couple inches of water in it (maybe 1 - 2 inches) and tried misting her and she just hates water all together now. 12. I got pretty lucky, Saphira starting mimmicing things at about 4 months, now at about 7 months old she has about a 10 - 15 word vocabulary, I hope se keeps learning them. I know she picks up annoying noises really quick, my fiancee had the windows open this summer and decided that maybe she would like to look out the window and get some fresh air, so she put her play stand in front of the window. There was a bird outside that was making a really shrill noise, she picked that up in under 15 minutes (needless to say, my fiancee quickly shut the window, but to this day she still loves to make that noise)..
  13. They are not huge birds. They are both TAGs. The breeder even told us that Saphira was a small TAG. Thorn is quite a bit bigger than her and he was just weened. I am guessing he may get a hair bigger yet.

    poop

Saphira always wiggles her bottom before dropping the bomb and then watches it land. (i do like the wiggle, it gives me warning) However Thorn has no such warning device built in.<br><br>Post edited by: Sallas, at: 2008/10/28 21:22
  15. I think I am lucky as both of my birds are less than a year old, they are actually very cuddly (not cockatoo cuddly, but close). I think I am in for a shock when they get older
  16. Thord is settling very well, they both fell asleep on my chest lastnight and Thorn was loving hea scritches lastnight.
  17. He has a really red tail for a Timneh. He has a lot of red under his wings also.
