  1. My best suggestion is to learn to read his body language, you can avoid a bite by reading his body language.
  2. No, I know you did, but the posters original comment was that a breeder told him they had a 445 gram TAG, that was what I was reffering too.
  3. 445 seems prtty far fetched to me for a TAG. I have a male and a female TAG, my fiancee usually weighs them while I am at work, but I will get their weights tonight. Last time i weighed them the female was 322 and the male was 343 and he is a pretty big TAG from what everyone has said that has seen him (vets and breeder).
  4. Well, I am not sure if I want them to bond...it is a male and female...
  5. They really get along well (they feed each other and talk to each other, they cuddle with each other) until I am around then they get a little bit rough with each other....not really bad yet, I want to try to stop that now though.
  6. I was looking through my digital pictures and just felt like posting a couple. I hope you like them. <br><br>Post edited by: Sallas, at: 2008/11/14 23:03
  7. Both of my Greys will hang on the side wall of the cage, look at me and scratch with one foot as a way of telling me, "Daddy, I want out by you!!!".
  8. Maybe I could borrow Brutus and we could go out looking for ladies? Do parrots work as well as puppies for meeting women?
  9. I like the idea of a Parrot Toy Room, but who is going to keep that room clean? My Greys are really messy and they never put their toys away. With everyone's Greys in there I think it will get pretty messy...Ok bad joke
  10. I am looking for a bird club in the Milwaukee area. I found one but it looks like there website has not been updated for a while and I tried to email them and did not get a response. So, does anyone out there know of a bird club in the Milwaukee, WI area?

    Baby Talk!

I have two TAGs. The first was born in March and her name is Saphira. <br><br>Post edited by: Sallas, at: 2008/11/06 23:29
  13. Ahh, ok, I thought they burned the oil as the fuel to create the heat. Carbon Monoxide is a by product of the burning of the fuel. I am assuming it actually uses electricity to heat the oil and the oil is just a medium to carry the heat.
  14. If the animal is truly neglected, do you have a Humain Society in your area? If you talked with one of the Humain Society officers about the true needs of a grey, maybe the officer would have a talk with the owner. I fear that if you send this guy toys, he will just resell them, then you are just giving this guy more profit from this abused Grey. I hate to say this, but if the grey does start plucking, maybe the guy would not see the bird as an ornament anymore....But that would be even more hard work to get the Grey rehabilitated. And that poor bird does not deserve that. I really wish that people would have to have a license to be able to own some species of parrots. They could test potential owners to see if they are really ready and have done their research first. I know that would not stop all potentially bad owners, but maybe it would save a couple parrots from a life of torture. I just do not understand why people would pay the price they do for one of these birds and then treat them the way they do...<br><br>Post edited by: Sallas, at: 2008/11/06 16:21
  15. Wouldn't those heaters give off carbon monoxide? Or are they vented to the outside?
  16. When he does step up, you could give him a treat and say good bird and give him lots of praise. This way instead of using a negative reinforcement, you will be using a positive one. Parrots respond much better to positive reinforcement.
  17. OK, OK, if everyone pitches in, I will make the sacrafice and go and tape them...:cheer:
  18. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I came very close to losing my mother this August.
  19. I would LOVE a video of wild Greys. I would make a digital copy and play it for them on repeat all day long.
  20. I am a big fan of Kings cages. I have the 40" wide playtop cage for my TAG and she loves it. It maybe kind of big for her, but I would rather she had to much room than not enough. She is not cramped in her cage at all.
  21. Have you researched the needs of an African Grey? There is alot of good information on this forum about the needs of African Greys. I do not want to go into it a lot now in case you have done your research already. If you have researched the needs of a grey and still want to get one, then it depends on where you live. I can give you the name of the breeder I use. She is VERY nice and really cares about her birds. Or you could look to see if you are close to any of the breeders listed here http://www.birdbreeders.com/ I would recommend finding a breeder close to you where you can go visit the breeder and see there set up so that you are not supporting a "Parrot Mill". Also, then you can see any of the birds that they may have available and see which bird picks you out.<br><br>Post edited by: Sallas, at: 2008/10/31 19:22
  22. We have a pretty close relationship with our breeder, she takes them to the vet right before she gives them to us, but we took Saphira to our vet anyway when we got her. Thorn we just got two weeks ago, but he is still very leary of me for some reason, i want to wait till he is mor comfortable before i stress him out. the vet loves Saphira, she said she is the friendliest Grey she has ever seen.
