Uh Oh, you may have to get a little birdie tred mill. Just kidding... I am actually going to have to deal with this myself. Our 9 Month old, I do not think was ever allowed to fledge before we got her. THe breeder clips their wings before you get them. She is just starting her moult now (PS. She looks kinda funny with her one full length flight feather that has grown in, but dont tell her she is kind of self conscious about it). Anyway, I want to let all of her flights grow and and try to teach her to fly. I think I can see the difference between her and out 5 month old that did fledge.

We have two greys together in the same cage. What I had planned to do was put their cages right next to eachother at first, then once I saw them interacting and being nice through the bars, I would try putting them together. Now, there are a few issues that you may see. You could put the divider in and just watch them. Once they start interacting nicely together, perching next to eachother (with the bars between them), you could try to introduce them. Now the issue you may have is that the larger bird will think of his side as his territory and "MAY" be territorial and defend it. Ideally, once you introduce them, you would want to move them into a whole new cage, or move them into the young birds cage. But since you would be removing the divider, well it is just a possible issue. Now, I never even had to do any of that. My birds just took to each other instantly, but both of mine are young and of opposite gender. Now I do have to thank you for trying to save those poor birds. I have a spare cage and room for another, I am waiting until I hear of a bird in need of a good home. I had thought about getting another youngster, but I would love the challenge and then the emotional rewards of rescuing my next bird.

Saphira would be easy, I would just have to wait for her to poop, she cannot poop without wiggling her bottom. Thorn would be a little harder, if all the birds were TAGs, I would look for a larger bird (he is pretty big for a TAG) with a red tail. His tail is pretty close to as red as a CAG. Both of mine have red factor, but a lot of greys do, so that would not work. For both of my birde i could pull out a piece of dehydrated papaya and my two would be crawling over the others to get to me!!

I am sorry if my opinion offended some, but I do stick to my opinion and feel I have the right to post my opinion. Now I would have been more tactful if the poster was the actual person getting rid of their bird and not someone posting an ad they found. I knew the people were not getting rid of their bird because they were getting new furniture, but I recently actually heard of someone getting rid of their bird because of getting new furniture and I was venting. But I still very much disagree with the people that posted the ad getting rid of their bird because they got a new dog...The bird was their first.

We have a spare room right now thati could use as an aviary, but I am to far away and I am certain that Rocky would be a lucky bird if you adopt him Penny! At least we would all know this bird would get the life it so deserves. I even have a spare cage right now. We had bought a new cage when we got Thorn thinking Saphira and Thorn would not get along, but those two are as thick as thieves, so they live together in a 40x30 cage. We have looked at the rescues for another bird to rescue, but all they had was Cockatoos and I am not sure a Cockatoo would do well n my house with all of the other birds. From what I have read and the resue has told me, most Cockatoos do better as an only bird because they demand all of the attention. So I am waiting for a CAG, Ekky, Caique, or Amazon.

I read an article that TAGs usually start talking at around 5-6 months and CAGs usually start talking at around the one year mark. My TAG that is 8 months old started talking around the 4 month area (she started sayinguh oh every time she pooped and said pretty bird) My male TAG is learning very fast from the female. Everything she does, he has to do.

If i lived even close to NY, I would adopt him in a heartbeat. These type of owners frustrate me, i bet he matched their furniture....they must be getting new furniture for the holidays{Emotions-000200BA}

I wish we had some of this wood here in Wisconsin. I love making things. I was an auto mechanic for many years, then I went back to school for computers. But I have always like working with my hands and designing things. I may have to look into what wood may be safe for them, that I can find locally. Does anyone know where I can find a list of parrot or Grey safe wood?{Emotions-000200C1}

I am very lucky in this factor, both of my greys want their new toys NOW!! When they see me come in the door with a bag from any of the pet stores they get very excited. If I do not at least give them something, they will go and find out what I got them and take it.

Maybe posting a picture of it would help.

Interesting Read On The Differences of CAG & TAG
Sallas replied to Sallas's topic in The GREY Lounge
I even see differences between my two TAGs. They both are very confident birds, but one took to use right away, she has been glued to me since the day I picked her up from the breeder, the other when we got him was a confident bird with our new surroundings but was not sure what to make of us, he did not want to step up to come out of his cage for play time. After about two weeks he is a changed bird, now when he sees me walk in the door from work, he gets all excited because he knows I will be coming to get them for play time and now it is a raise for the two bird to see who can get on Daddy the fastest. -
I got my cage from www.kingscages.com they are very goodcages and cheaper than the local pet stores. But, the Kings brand is a little more expensive than some of the others. But, I have bought all of my cages online.

Yes, I do think this calls for new pictures!!

Hello Kimberly, I did not have any large bird experience before I got my first TAG (I did have small and medium) but there would be nobody with large bird experience if people did not just do their research and get the birds and work through the issues. To me it sounds like you and your parents are going about it the right way. I now have two TAGs and could not imagine my life without them. I really hope you get the bird of your dreams. Oh and I am not too far from you all there, I am from SE Wisconsin. We had snow yesterday morning {Feel-bad-00020079}

When I bought my cage (That is the exact cage I have for my TAGs)there was free shipping. I am very happy I bought the cage from Kings. By fiancee teased me some because I get such a big cage, but if I compare that cage to the size of the rain forest in the Congo, that big cage is still way smaller than tiny.<br><br>Post edited by: Sallas, at: 2008/11/19 16:25

I was nervous to get the scotchguard because of the issue birds have with non-stick stuff. I guess I just thought of scotch guard like non-sticking your furniture so stains can't set in.

Mine are always quiet at night. My Greys are not very loud at all and I have two of them. they just start chitter chattering in the morning and kinda do that most of the day and get quiet in the evening just about dusk or shortly after, then we do not really hear a peep from them unless disturbed until morning.

Interesting Read On The Differences of CAG & TAG
Sallas replied to Sallas's topic in The GREY Lounge
Do not get me wrong, I was not saying that CAGs are inferior or worse than TAGs, just different. It is great that you were able to teach your FID to handle new items and places so well!! This was just a article that I had found interesting. Also, the article did not say that CAGs could not be taught to handle things or like every living species, there are exceptions to the rule. -
Interesting Read On The Differences of CAG & TAG

Thank you both. Since I have been looking into Greys a long time back, I have been curious about the differences beween them as I know other members are. So when I saw this, I thought maybe it would help other members also.. -
Oh yes, my babies also have a mansion and at least 3 different play stands (one store bought, two I made myself), we always leave the TV on for them if no one is home, but usually someone is home for them. My only regret (well two now)...the first one is that the breeder insisted on clipping their wings because of the distance we had to travel (for the birds safety and ours for not losing it). The second I did not think about until reading this article...If something were to happen to me, that does scare me now..

Interesting Read On The Differences of CAG & TAG
Sallas replied to Sallas's topic in The GREY Lounge
I have two TAGs, I would like to get a CAG also. So, I cannot compare the two breeds myself. But I would not say that my TAGs are nervous birds, in fact I think they are pretty much the opposite. I hear people say they have to slowly introduce new toys and stuff, I bring a new toy in the house and the both of them cannot wait to get at it and check it out. Maybe tear it appart if they can or at least taste it. But, I know some would say that I have just a small sampling of the breed. When I decided to get TAGs, I decided from talking to my breeder. She has multiple pairs of CAG and TAG, she said the same thing, that she found that TAGS were not near as nervous, thus more outgoing and she found them much less likely to pluck. -
I found this article this morning while doing more research on my litte-uns. Whenever I have free time, I always try to do more research to understand my pets so that I may give them the best care that I can. Anyway, I found this interesting and thought I would pass it on. Remember, this is just the opinion of one person or group of people. Agree with it or do not, but I have found some of the things that she says about Timnehs to be VERY accurate to how mine act. http://www.africangreys.com/articles/greys/species.htm

Neither, I vote for a cage VERY similar to #1 but I have a cheaper option for you (And I say a beter option, and if you ask around the forum of the quality of this brand cage, I think most would agree) https://www.kingscages.com/cages/cages-economy/model-elp-4030/prod_52.html The Kings cage is pretty much the same as #1, but it is cheaper than the cage you are looking at and it is extremely good quality.

I try to spoil all my pets (2 Greys, 2 Sun Conures, 2 Cats). Whenever we go shopping the cats are all over the bags looking for their present, oh and at Christmas time, we have to hide the cats presents or they will open them (some of them, I have no idea how they know it is for them, like the kitty condo...I understand the catnip toys and stuff that smells). The birds also get excited when we come home from shopping (well birds are excited to see you anytime, but when we come home from shopping they seem extra excited. I am always looking for new and different toys and things they would enjoy. First thing I do when I walk in the door from work, is pet the Kittys, wash my hands and get the Greys (The Greys are my birds, the Sun Conures are my fiancee's, but I still play with them too, I am an animal person) out. My fiancee's children always tell me how spoiled my pets are..

I bet the cleaning crew does not like cleaning up behind his desk...
