I will go with Male

I am not sure if you already have a cage and toys and other parrot necessities, but this would give you time to acquire those items and get everything set up and ready for the baby to move in.

I have two TAGs and I would say I actually prefer larger birds, but when I was looking at getting my Greys, I talked with my breeder and we discussed the stereotypical differences between the TAG and CAG, and we decided that based on the stereotypes, a TAG would be better in our household. I would still love to have a Amazon (I think either DYH or Blue Front, but open to about and breed), on the other hand a Caique (I know this is considered a small-medium bird) would also fit well in my house.

Interesting Read On The Differences of CAG & TAG

Exactly, they are just in the same family. -
Interesting Read On The Differences of CAG & TAG

Up because I saw some questions about CAGs and TAGs again -
I am partial to TAGs myself as I have two of them.

I do not think mt greys are any more nippy than my other birds. Birds are like people in that they all have their own personality. There are some that will be nippy and some that are not. If you were to get a grey as a baby, you would have a much better chance of a bird that does not nip. Now bites/nips will happen when birds lose their balance and such.

Yeah, I have that same problem every time I go back home (Which I am tonight). In my home town is where the Drs Foster & Smith is based out of, So I go to their outlet store and I can never walk out of there cheaply. But when I get home, I have happy cats and birds

A couple months ago, my fiancee and I went to a local parrot rescue (we buy our food from them and always check to see if there is that perfect member to fill my open cage and become a member of our flock). Well there was a citron cockatoo that my fiancee fell in love with, he was dancing for her and cuddling with her. She wanted me to check "Scooter" out, so I went by his cage and there is a large sign that says "Prefers Women". Well I am the type of person that animals are just drawn to, I can usually tell what they want. I pointed the sign out to my fiancee and was a little leary of him, but she seemed to love him so I figured if I get bit, I get bit. I srated offering my hand and stopped at a safe distance to read his body language, and his body language was good, so I continued. He stepped up very nicely. he was dancing and all sorts of stuff for me. All of the people at the rescue were in total shock that not only did I not get bit, but he loved me. The director of the rescue took us upstairs to an aread where they have a couple couches, some bird toys and stands. It is a little area where you can play with and get to know the bird. Scooter was dancing back and forth on my arm and it looked like on one of his dance moves he got really close to my fiancee's cheek. Well she said owe, and it did not look like he had bitten her, but she moved her hand and there was A LOT of blood. (I really do not think the bird even meant to bite her, I think this bird really liked the both of us and was just excited to be out and playing with us). Well, after she was cleaned up, we filled out an application for the bird and it takes them a little while to review the app. I had sat my fiancee down a couple days later so the initial shock was wore off, and asked her to honestly answer me if after that bite, if she would be able to forgive the bird and not be scared of it. She did not think she would be able to, so I had to call the rescue and tell them that we decided against scooter (I still really think he was just excited). But now after two months, we can tell she is going to have a decent scar from the experience. I really wanted a CAG to fill the last spot in my house, but he was such a friendly guy, my only worry would have been if he would have gotten along with my TAGs. I am not sure a cockatoo would do well in a house with that many other birds. Cockatoos like to be the center of attention.

With your rhyming birds, maybe you could make a rap band...

Any health concerns with infants and greys in same
Sallas replied to RoadSpawn's topic in The GREY Lounge
I would think only if the infant has respiratory problems. -
I have heard of scams like this, I have heard of people sending their bird and never getting the bird they traded for. Now the whole idea of this just angers me because my birds are a member of my family, I would never trade them. This really is the wrong forum to come to for something like this, most members of these types of forums are loving and dedicated pet owners, and all people would do is cause issues by posting such things on this type of forum.

Is this the band? The band references to the breeder. There is usually a few letters and then some numbers. http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww5eiii.htm

Not to mention I sure would not want him going to the bathroom on my head.

Sounds like she may think it is a fun game. I am sure some of the others will be able to give you better advice on this one than I could.

I have two Timnehs (a male and a female), Saphira is the female and she is about 10 months old. Thorn is the male and he is about 7 months old. I got very lucky in that they both adore the other. They take turns feeding each other and keep one another company while I am at work. They have totally different personalities and I could not imagine my life without them. Introducing them was very easy. The first day they met, Saphira had to have a toe nail removed and she was not in a good mood, but the next day, they were introduced again and they got along great right away. they started feeding and preening one another right away and got a little upset when we went to put them back in their own cages that night. Now they live together in a huge cage.
-
Saphira poops much more often than Thorn does, but Saphira gives me warning. She squats a little, then wiggles her bottom before she goes, then says "Uh oh" afterward. I usually have enough time to either move her over a paper towel or something, but Thorn has no built in warning system.

The best tip I can give you is to get the biggest cage that you can fit or afford.
-
Not to mention after that bird molts again, how much red will it have?

Dont blue-front usually more yellow around the eyes? I am not an amazon expert though.

Shopping for unconventional "bird toys" like Legos
Sallas replied to EFGriffith's topic in The GREY Lounge
Greys seem to love foot toys. both of my birds like their plastic army men, kids toy plastic rings (I do not like the kinds rings that have the slit in the finger part to make them one size fits all as the birds beak can get caught in the slit). We look through the toy stores and "Dollar" stores for the little (not small enough that they would swallow) plastic toys that the birds would find interesting to play with. We have a little plastic puzzle type game that you have to make the pieces fit together correctly that the birds just love. Another thing my birds just LOVE is colored popcicle sticks (they like the natural wood colored ones too). They just love ripping them apart. I doubt that you would find those in a toy store though. -
Reading these stories makes me feel so bad for the birds, I know exactly how they feel, I have a bum leg myself. I am glad both of you are there to take care of them.. I am going to have to go home and hug my greys now...I will tell them it was because of this post too...

Anyone else have any good perches for keeping their birds nails trimmed? I need to get a couple more as the ones I have do not seem to be working very well.

I decided to get a grey because of some of the things that many people consider parrots "Negative" features. I take it very hard when I lose pets as I really treat them like they were my kids, as I do not have kids of my own and never will (I am disabled and would not think it is fair to a child). So I wanted a fid that will live with me the rest of my life (we should hopefully have about the same lifespan at my age). Their intelligence was another main factor, Saphira communicates with me more than Thorn does, but Thorn is two-three months younger than Saphira. There talking ability did not factor in my decision. The majority of the time my fids do not talk to me, but I just about always know what they want. I almost decided on a Cockatoo because of the amount of time that they want to be with you and they are more cuddly birds, but must Cockatoos prefer to be an only bird and I knew I wanted more than one. And the fact that Greys are not as loud was a plus too. I can handle a loud bird, but some Cockatoos are VERY loud (I wanted a maluccan Cockatoo).

I give my greys formula every so often on recommendation of my breeder. She said she does it so that if she ever needs to give them medications, it is easier. It made sense to me, so I decided to do it also. Plus Saphira is so cute when she see formula coming. She loves her formula and you can see her get excited and the first few times she sticks he whole beak into the spoon. She makes such a mess, BTW formula days tend to be bath days also (just because she usually makes a mess out of it. Thorn just nibbles at the formula though.
