  1. Went to visit my favorite Bird Store today and she has two beautiful Severe Mcaws - they were born in April. Didn't know if any of you knew anyone looking for one. She also has a Bare Eyed Cockatoo in need of a new home. She is such a sweetie.
  2. The pics are beautiful! I love to read the stories too! Someday maybe Rainbow will look like that B) I can just hope.

  4. Gizmo is just beautiful! I'm sure with time he will be going all over the place. I put up my Christmas village the other day and all 4 of my birds were just standing and looking at the lights! They are all so funny!
  5. Don't be sorry - I love it! Baxter sounds like Bingo, my CAG! He is a grumpy old man too - only likes ME! We have a Jack Russell named Casey and one day Bingo was climbing down the outside of his cage and I heard him say "Come Here", she trotts right on over and he bit her nose! It was so funny - only because he didn't break skin or anything! She has not fallen for that trick anymore:silly: I never knew birds could be so much enjoyment (or so much work), but well worth it!
  6. Thanks, he is a sweetie too! I am afraid I can't take the credit for his bloodwork, because we had only had him a few weeks before we took him to the vet. He needed to go anyway and we wanted to make sure that his plucking wasn't from anything physically wrong. Rainbow is not a great talker - he will say "Hi Bow", Hi Rainbow, Step up, and NOOOOOOOOOOO! Thats about all I have heard him say, but I hope he will learn new things as time goes on. He has just got the best personality, sweet as can be (unless he gets in someone elses cage and doesn't want to come out!)But even then he just tells you no and makes a lame attempt at a bite - more like a lunge at you, he has never bit down hard. I am thankful for that;) Shoot, I have had Bingo (CAG) since March and the only new thing he has learned is Nighty, Nite! I too, love to hear all of the sounds that they make - so funny! I love to compare notes with others and read this forum - it is a great asset to any parrot owner!:cheer:
  7. Tigger is a beautiful bird!! You sound like me with your birds. We started with a Cockateil last Sept. (07), ended up wanting a bigger bird and after researching alot decided on a Grey. There is a wonderful bird store not to far away that someone told me about and the owner mainly boards birds, but sells toys, food, etc. Everytime I would go over there I would see this beautiful Grey and found out that the owner was trying to sell her house and the realtor had sugested that the birds not be there. She finally decided to give up the male - thats Bingo! He came home in March. Went back to get supplies and she had two baby DYH Amazons. Woops - that was all it took. Calypso came home in August. Went again and there was Rainbow, my Eclectus, needing a home. Rainbow came home in Sept. I HAVE REACHED MY LIMIT!! I told her the next time I go to the store I will be wearing blinders!! I love them all and wouldn't trade them for anything, but 4 is enough. Its so amazing to see the different personalties - they are all wonderful!
  8. The pellets I am giving Rainbow are the Harrisons High Potency - but like I said, I don't think he ever eats any. My vet wanted me to leave him with her and convert him just to those pellets. I said I would try myself first. Came home from the vet that day and took out the seeds and didn't give him dinner with the rest of the birds. He looked so sad and I just couldn't let him go to bed hungry, so I gave in! That was the end of that! He seems happy and I know he is healthy, by his bloodwork and gram stain. I am going to try the bath thing everyday and see if that helps, plus the sprays. I posted a pic on my profile.
  9. You can be happy! You know I just started trying a little orange, since they are coming in season here and are really good, but will stop that! Also, will try taking out the seed - he loves it so much though. I also have a DLH Amazon, African Grey, and Cockateil - when they are all out of the cage, Rainbow (the ekkie), will climb down and go into the Amazons cage to get to her seed, it must be better in someone elses house! So funny to watch him and he won't come out until he is good and ready - will tell me NO when I try to get him to step up! Would love to see a pic of the sock p.j.'s! I have not tried a harness on him, I doubt if he has ever had one on. Will start today with the daily bathes.
  10. I will, would love to see this little sweetie fully feathered - they are so beautiful! I do put him in the shower, I have a perch which my Amazon just loves, but he will not stay on it, so I put a cage in the bottom of the shower and he just tolerates it. I have not tried taking a shower with him though, but I will.
  11. Thanks for the info! I don't give any vitamins or additives, I have Harrison pellets in one of his bowls(my vet suggested nothing else, - but I very seldom, if ever, see him eat them). He gets fresh fruits and veggies, plus muffins (recipe from land of vos),almonds, and some egg once a week. Dinner is a bean, pasta, and rice mix. The vet suggested I spray him with Aloe Vera one day and Avi Bird Soother the next. I did bathe him about twice a week - but now it is so cold here, not sure what to do. He really HATES a bath and I have to put him in a cage so I can get him wet! I worry about him getting cold (since he is half bald!) He also hates getting sprayed! Sorry this is so long, but it is so good to talk to someone who also has an ekkie. Oh, I do use filtered water, but leave seed in another bowl for him - should I take them out? Thanks again --
  12. Thanks for the quick reply! He clips his feathers everywhere he can reach. Neck, down the middle of his chest, legs, under his wings. His head is beautiful, but that is about it!
  13. In September we found a male Eclectus that needed a new home - his family realized that they did not have enough time for him anymore and he was plucking his feathers. We really love him and did from the first day we laid eyes on him, but he does the figure 8 with his head. Does anyone know if this is normal for this type of bird? We have taken him to the vet and everything is normal. I was worried that the plucking might be from something physically wrong, but that is not the case. He doesn't actually pull out his feathers, but rather bites them off in sections. I know he might never stop this, but any sugestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated. We will continue to love him, even if he keeps himself trimmed!
  14. Thanks so much for the reply - I was beginning to panic. Our teil does go for regular check-ups at the vet, in fact she went in May. I am very careful when my birds are out of the cage, they are not allowed to get very close, since we also have a 4 month old Amazon. She is so little in comparison, I know they could really hurt her if given the opportunity. Thanks again!
  15. Thanks for the info - I had already decided not to get the Sun - he is a beautiful bird and needs a new home but, might just be more that I can handle at this point. BMustee, you worried me when you said that tiels are known carriers for deseases, what do you mean. I have Bingo (cag) in the same room - is that ok? My tiel has been to the vet and checked out fine. Is this something I should worry about?
  16. Does anyone have any idea if a Sun Conure and a Cockateil could live in the same cage? We have a cockateil now and have seen a Sun Conure that we are very interested in. The cage we have is 31x21x62. The size of the birds are very close, but didn't know about the personality of the Conure. Thanks for any input.
  17. I have a rehomed CAG that is 8 yrs old and I wanted to change his name from Bingo, but did not. He does not seem to have any bad memories concerning his name and he knows it also. In my case, I felt the stress of coming to a new home and surroundings were enough for him at the time. I do see why you would want to change it though! Good luck with your new baby!
  18. I also leave on a radio or TV on when no one is home. Since Bingo can see the TV from his cage, I try to be careful on channel choices!
  19. There is also a perch that has rough edges on each side (where the nails would sit) and it is smooth in the middle - for the pads of their feet. I hang a toy over it so Bingo will sit on it - I believe it helps.
  20. OK, I'm off to Petsmart! Thanks to all!
  21. I really hope this doesn't sound to stupid - but here goes! I have had my Grey for two months, he is 8 yrs old and I feel has made wonderful progress adjusting to his new home. He has pretty much only bonded to me and we spend time together everyday cuddling, neck scratching, and he will let me hold his head and kiss his neck while on my shoulder. I really can understand now how they can just steal your heart! His previous owner was an older couple and I am sure that he was treated very well, but my question is HOW DO YOU PLAY WITH THEM! I have tried a few things like, basketball (a small set made for babies), hiding a peanut in cupcake holders (he looks at me like I have lost my mind), little whiffle balls (again, the same look) - I would love to get some ideas on things you do with your birds that they like. I would just love to see him get excited about some type of game or two that we could do together. Thanks, you all are great!

    Sprouts

I know alot of you feed sprouts to your Grey, but I was wondering if you feed them as soon as they sprout, or do you wait until they grow some.
  23. What cute little babies! I could never work in a pet store or I would have a house full!! Thanks for sharing -
  24. I was just wondering if anyone used Aloe Vera Juice to bathe their cockateils - I use this on my Grey and just wanted to make sure it was OK for my cockateil too.
  25. A wonderful machine for sprouting seeds is a "Easy Green auto Sprouter". We purchased one a few years ago to sprout seeds for salads and such. It has a timer you set to mist the seeds. I haven't done any for a few months, but am going to get it out today and start to sprout some seeds for Bingo. If you like Radishes, the sprouts are the best you have ever tasted!!!
