Hi Everyone, About a year ago I decided to start a web-store to sell bird, dog, and cat supplies. After going through the process with zoning, IRS EIN number, web site, domain name, etc., I found a wonderful wholesaler for bird supplies. Didn't have much luck with the dog and cat supplies though, but anyway to make a long story short, when I finally started trying to add product to my web page, I found that it was a very long process. After two months of adding product (and wasn't that many) I decided that I was paying out a lot of money and had not even gotten the store open! The good news is I can still order from the wholesaler, and I do for my 7 parrots. I have read many posts on different forums about prices being so high, I decided to try to help anyone I can to get supplies cheaper. If there is anything someone needs, just send me an e-mail @ furfeathers@cox.net. I will be glad to check it out and let you know how much I can get items for and have them shipped to you if I can get a better price for you. I do have a pay-pal account set up and would also accept checks or money orders. They have all sorts of toys, as well as perches, seed, pellets, just about anything and any brand you want. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to e-mail me. Thanks!

This just breaks my heart! I don't understand how people can get in a situation like this, but I guess like Judygram said it would have to be some mental issues going on. Just hope and pray that they can rescue them, get them healthy and find good homes.

Thank you all for your kind words. It's funny how you really have to be a bird person to understand what they mean to us. I have never thought that I would outlive any of my birds, all I have worried about is making sure my 2 sons know how to find good homes if something happened to me and they could not keep them. I realize more now than ever that each day with them is precious. They are part of my family and I hope and pray they will be for a long, long, time.

This is so great! Could listen to them all day - thanks for sharing!

Good luck with your decision to bring home Shyloh - she/he is a beauty! It sounds like you are ready for this commitment and my bet is that everything will work out just fine! I am certainly no expert, but I have 6 parrots, all of them came to live with us within a couple of years. It seems like once you have 1, then you find out about this one and that one that desperately need homes. At one time all I did was research on the internet to find out about the needs of each one and everything has worked out great. We have 4 that needed a forever home and I could not turn my back on them, I love them all and do the very best I can do to make sure that they are happy and healthy. Constant source of entertainment in this home! Stay in touch and keep us posted on the progress, this forum is a wonderful place, so many experienced parrot owners ready to answer any questions you might have. Take one day at a time, relax and enjoy your new babies.

Wish I could have gotten a video, but we had just covered everyone for bed when she started going on and on. We have an Eclectus, his name is Rainbow, but we call him Bo most of the time. I will try to catch her again in one of her rants, but it is hard - just lucked out this time.

Yes, she does burp, and makes other bodily fuction noises also! I did a search for audio only and found that site. My brother-in-law said we needed to call in a priest! She is quite a character.

We have had more fun listening to our Miss Lilly and trying to figure out what she is saying. Thought you might get a kick out of this. Hope it works! http://joyl.podbean.com/

This morning after her breakfast, I noticed my 3 1/2 yr old sitting on top of her cage making a funny noise. She is very vocal, and I was trying to decide if this was a new noise or something else. She would open her beak and breathe almost like her nose was stopped up or something. The more I listened to this, I became very concerned. It was like she had something stuck in her throat. I tried to get her to drink water, that was a no go, then took her to the shower where she loves to bathe and always drinks some of the water. When we were finished she was fine and have watched her closely all afternoon - no problems. She has played, and also been eating, just like normal. Has anyone else had this happen?

Is there anyway to upload a audio, without the video? I wanted to upload my Grey talking (which I can't understand what she is saying), hoping someone might understand some of it or at least get a little chuckle--- Thanks

Thank you both for the input! I figured that since the way she was acting that it was a mistake. I did find where I read it though, it was "Bird Talk" magazine. She also does lay eggs from time to time, and has laid one since getting the tent. Guess I will have to take it and give it to one of the boys! Would love to find her a branch like you are talking about Birdhouse, do you remember where it came from? Her name is Scarlett. Thanks again

That is the sweetest thing I have ever seen! Thanks so much for sharing - Loved it!

I have a 5 yr old female Eclectus, she has allways been very quiet and very rarely plays with any of her toys. I read somewhere, (can't remember where) that the females enjoy having a place where they can feel secluded and private, so I purchased her a tent. Well, she absolutely loves it, and I am worried that she loves it a little to much, since she stays in there most of the time! Her cage is open most of the day so she can come out whenever she wants. Yesterday, I went by her cage and she was turned sideways in it and flapping her wings. It just worries me that she is spending to much time in there laying down, can this be healthy for her? We have had her for 2 1/2 years.

Loved the videos! Great Job!

Luvparrots, Do you give each bird a whole egg now and then? I have scrambled an egg for mine and given them little bits with breakfast, is this enough? Thanks

Update: I received a check in the mail for the baby grey! The pet shop owner wanted to see vet reports and also spoke on the phone with the vet. I guess he needed proof that it wasn't something that we did wrong (which I completely understand). Although my reasons for trying to get the birds out of the store was because of the conditions they were living in, this has been a horrible experience for both of our families. But, like Zoom said above, he was very much loved and at least had a week of being very, very, special. On a more positive note, the Amazon is doing just fine and everyday I hear more stories about funny things she does and says. She is in a wonderful, forever home. I have vowed never to go in that pet store again.

I agree with all of the above - I have 6 parrots and even though they do O.K. together, when they are all out, I have to watch them carefully. We have a screened in porch with one end fixed as a play area for them, if one gets in the way of another you can bet there will be heads bobbing and fluffed feathers. Best of luck in finding your new baby, but please get them their own cage.

A few weeks ago I visited our local pet shop, and was amazed that they had a African Grey baby and a 27 year old Red Lored Amazon. These birds were sitting in the floor in very tiny cages, with waste up above the grates in the cages. I spoke with the girl that was working and explained that they were not in the best of conditions (tryed to be nice), telling her the cages were way to small and the only perch in the cages were the size I have for my Cockateil. Anyway, she informed me that cages had been ordered for the birds and would be arriving soon. The next week I went back and same thing, I called a few days later and spoke to someone else that told me there were no cages on order. I then found out that my friends son had been going by about every other day to visit these birds and was determined to get them out of that store (he is 18 and very much an animal person). To make a long story short, I went and bought the birds (1500.00) and that night we surprised my friends son with that baby he had fallen in love with. Both of those birds went straight to him and it was a prime example of birds picking people. It was one of the best feelings I have ever had and felt so good to get those birds out of the situation they were in. Exactly one week later I get a call at 7:30 a.m. and they have gotten up to find the baby in the bottom of the cage barely breathing. They leave to rush to the Vet and before they can get there the baby passes away. The Vet did a necropsy and ruled out Chlamydia and Psittacosis, and has concluded that there was some type of disease. We contacted the owner of the Pet Shop and he has not been very cooperative, to say the least. I am sorry to go on so long, but have searching on the internet trying to find if I have any type of recourse in this situation. Didn't know if anyone had any ideas or knew of any regulations that pertain to pet stores selling birds. This has been heartbreaking, we are all devastated.

Well, according to the store, this Grey was born on 3/12/11. It looks like a baby and acts like one too, with the little chirps and begging noises that it makes. Plus the eyes are dark like most of the babies I have seen. I am certainly no expert in the field, but just wondering if anyone had any info on these types of bands.
-
A friend of mine just purchased a baby African Grey and he/she has a rounded split band. It does have some numbers on it, but just so different from any that I have seen. Does anyone know if this is something new?

Don't know how many of you sprout for yours fids, but I found a wonderful sprout mix. The web-site is www.wheatgrasskits.com It is all organic and made especially for birds. Contains sprouts of Broccoli, Buckwheat, Chinese Cabbage, Fenugreek, Lentil, Mung Bean, Radish, Red Clover, Red Spring Wheat, and Sunflower. Just in case anyone is interested. My babies love it!
